Dahlia and Azalea How do you pronounce these names?

Can you please tell me how you pronounce these names and what country you live in eg USA, UK, AUS. NZ or Europe. Is there an internationally accepted way of saying them or is it individual country to country?

I live in the US.

[name]Dahlia[/name] is ‘dah-lee-a’ or ‘dahl-ya’ (they sound the same to me). I’ve heard of it being pronounced ‘day-lee-a’ in the UK…

[name]Azalea[/name] would be ‘a-zay-lee-a’ or ‘a-zale-ya’.

[name]Day[/name]-lee-a

A-zay-lee-a

I am from the UK

I live in the pacific northwest USA

To me they are pronounced ‘dahl-ya’ and a-zale-ya’.

I have heard 3 pronounciations for [name]Dahlia[/name]

  1. Darlya
    2 [name]Day[/name]-lee-ya
    3 Dar - lee- ya

I live in New [name]England[/name].
dahl-ya and a-zale-ya

I live in the U.S.

[name]Dahlia[/name]: DAHL-ee-ah
[name]Azalea[/name]: ah-ZAY-lee-ah

[name]Dahlia[/name]- [name]Day[/name]-lee-ah
[name]Azalea[/name]- [name]Ah[/name]-zay-lee-a

But I’m from [name]Scotland[/name] so it’s probably different elsewhere.

I pronounce [name]Azalea[/name] Uh-zale-ya. I live in a Southern American city full of blooming Azaleas each spring, so I say this word fairly often.

I say [name]Dahlia[/name] Dahl-ee-uh. I say this word very rarely, perhaps if I said it more often it would be simplified to Dahl-ya.

DAHL-yuh and uh-[name]ZALE[/name]-yuh. US

dah-lee-uh (have u seen the black dahlia? its scary and true so dont watch if u dont like those type of movies but they prn. it dah-lee-uh and it took place in L.A.
