We are considering the name [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] for our baby girl born in [name_u]January[/name_u]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] or [name_f]Dahliana[/name_f] and or a variation (feminine and elegant), and would love a [name_m]French[/name_m] middle name. We aren’t [name_m]French[/name_m] but are big Francophiles. I love [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] or [name_f]Dahliana[/name_f] [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f] (my name is [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] and it’s a way of keeping a part of me with her since I didn’t keep my maiden name, but my husband doesn’t love it. Any other thoughts? [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] is also in the running.
I much prefer [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]. [name_f]Dahliana[/name_f] just doesn’t seem pretty or elegant to me. It’s like it’s trying so hard to hit the mark that it misses it completely if that makes any sense.
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f] is very pretty if the similarity to nicorette doesn’t bother you. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Colette[/name_f] would be nice as well. Oh, or [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Cosette[/name_f].
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] is nice. I do think [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] would be prettier though.
Congratulations!
I prefer the sleeker, less-frilly [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], especially with a potentially three-syllable middle name. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f] and [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] are absolutely gorgeous! I’d go for [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f] since it would link her name to yours, and since it’s freaking stunning. Or [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Nicoline[/name_f]? If your husband doesn’t love it, perhaps he’ll at least get on board if you point out .that you and she both have his surname and this is how you would like to include a link to you in her name.
Some other [name_m]French[/name_m] names if you need them:
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Celine[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Karine[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Mireille[/name_f]
Ooh… i love the above suggestion of [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Nicoline[/name_f]. The tie-in to your name is so wonderful.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about:
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_m]Cole[/name_m]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Nanette[/name_f]
Dahlias are my favourite flowers (and one of my favourite names!) and to me, adding the ‘na’ doesn’t make it prettier! Leave it be, it’s gorgeous enough.
thank you so much everyone. also my maiden name is [name_m]Forrest[/name_m], which could work for a girl as well, but we already gave it to our son for a middle name (first name [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] ([name_u]Max[/name_u])) so I’d like it to be different, a feminine version of [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] is an idea or a [name_m]French[/name_m] version. also both of our mothers’ names start with [name_f]Mar[/name_f] ([name_f]Marcy[/name_f] and [name_f]Marie[/name_f]), any ideas for names starting like that but feminine and elegant and ideally [name_m]French[/name_m] that work after [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]? I’m glad you like [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], interesting that the consensus is [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] over [name_f]Dahliana[/name_f] and you prefer [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] over [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]? That was also in the running
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is gorgeous. [name_f]Dahliana[/name_f] is a bit much for me personally it’s kind of over the top.
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is definitely better than [name_f]Dahliana[/name_f], and I also vastly prefer it to [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] ([name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] + [name_m]French[/name_m] MN leads to some gorgeous combos!) I think [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f] is lovely, but if your husband doesn’t like it, here are some more ideas:
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]/[name_f]Fleurette[/name_f] (if you wanna get really theme-y)
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Giselle[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Marcheline[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Mathilde[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Sabine[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
I definitely prefer [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] to [name_f]Dahliana[/name_f] — the first one is a lovely flower, unusual and sophisticated. [name_f]Dahliana[/name_f] is excessively frilly and over-the-top, and sounds made up and lacks the elegance of the original name. I also think the latter would often be misspelt or confused with other names.
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] or [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvaine[/name_f] — both come from the latin word for “forest” or “woods”. It could be a nice nod to your middle name.
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_u]Marion[/name_u], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] (too floral?), [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Margaux[/name_f], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Marcelle[/name_f], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] Marcelline, [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Marthe[/name_f], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Martine[/name_f], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Marine[/name_f], or [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Marjolaine[/name_f] to honour the grandmothers.
I really like the above suggestions of:
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Marceline[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Margaux[/name_f]
or:
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Marcelle[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]. just gorgeous. [name_f]Dahliana[/name_f] is too frilly, imo. I like the idea of [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Colette[/name_f] best, but [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f] is nice too. I don’t love [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] because the lia/liette is too similar sounding. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] is also lovely.
I prefer [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] over both [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] and [name_f]Dahliana[/name_f]. They both are a bit to frilly and princessy for me. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f] is beautiful, as was the suggest of [name_f]Nicoline[/name_f]. For names that start with [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-, here a page of a bunch of girls names starting with [name_f]Mar[/name_f]:

I think my favorite [name_f]Mar[/name_f] name is [name_f]Marceline[/name_f]. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] would be pretty.
I love [name_f]Dahliana[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]! [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is too harsh sounding, but [name_f]Dahliana[/name_f] sounds very elegant.
