Which do you prefer and why?
I prefer [name]Dahlia[/name]. Flowery, dark, mysterious sound to it that I love.
Also [name]Delilah[/name] is a name I do adore but there’s the song and then there’s the biblical connotation which just make it unusable for me personally.
[name]Dahlia[/name]. I love it connection to nature, and how it rolls off the tongue.
dahlia… I agree that the bible character ruins the name for me!
I love [name]Dahlia[/name] the most!
[name]Dahlia[/name]. I like the flower (it’s a bit sassier than some flowers, very femme but not sugary) and I like the late-summer/early-autumn seasonal association I have with dahlia flowers. I also like the nickname [name]Dolly[/name], as I deeply admire [name]Dolly[/name] [name]Parton[/name] as a philanthropist and artist, but I don’t consider [name]Dolly[/name] especially usable as a formal first name.
I like [name]Lila[/name]/[name]Leila[/name] (“night” is a cool meaning to me) and I find [name]Lilith[/name] to be at least multi-faceted and interesting, but [name]Delilah[/name] just feels tawdry to me.
[name]Dahlia[/name]. I love the -hl sound and the frilly-yet-spunky vibe.
I love both. I pronounce [name]Dahlia[/name], [name]Dal[/name]-ya but I know in the U.K. they pronounce it [name]Day[/name]-le-ah. I like [name]Dal[/name]-ya better.
But I also really like [name]Delilah[/name]!
[name]Delilah[/name] is a solid name but, compared to [name]Dahlia[/name], it comes off as a little less serious and more flirty/lightweight, and personally I’m just usually not a big fan of that double-L lilah/layla/lola/lily style, which screams cutesy for me.
[name]Dahlia[/name], despite being a flower name, seems more interesting, dark, and dignified.
[name]Dahlia[/name], for all reasons listed above. It’s more intriguing, has lovely, mysterious vibe, and rolls of the tongue well.
I like [name]Delilah[/name] , it flows easily and sounds pretty
I actually really detest both names. But I think I dislike [name]Delilah[/name] more; maybe its the h at the end?
I prefer [name]Tallula[/name], which is similar to [name]Delila[/name].
[name]Both[/name] are pretty, but I prefer [name]Delilah[/name]. Dahlias are gorgeous flowers but all I can think when I see the name is the [name]Black[/name] [name]Dahlia[/name]…which is a far worse association to me than the biblical [name]Delilah[/name]…
Another name similar name I like a lot is [name]Lilac[/name], very elegant and underused.
[name]Dahlia[/name]. By a landslide. The Biblical association with [name]Delilah[/name] ruins the name for me.
[name]Dahlia[/name]. But I don’t despise biblical image.
WOW. You hear the name of a beautiful flower and think of a murder? That says a lot more about you than the name. Yikes. A little therapy is maybe in order?
Wow, that was a bit harsh. The [name_m]Black[/name_m] [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] murder is definitely a very common association with the name [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], one that I make myself as well. Yes, it is a flower but that doesn’t meant the murder association isn’t there.
I do love the name [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]. I like the nickname options of [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] more, but I would be more likely to use [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f].
is such a gorgeous word to say and a beautiful and varied plant and has the great nickname [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]. It is both sophisticated and fresh.
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] was a hussy or something of the sort, I think.
No contest.
“interesting, dark, and dignified”
[name_m]Just[/name_m] because someone is culturally literate enough to think of the [name_m]Black[/name_m] [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] murder does not mean that person needs therapy!
That being said, I still prefer [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] gives it a pleasing dark contrast to its sunny floral image.
