Da(h)lia with or without the h? I like the floral connotation but [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] reminds me of the [name_m]Black[/name_m] [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
[name_f]Dalia[/name_f] seems more modern and international, but I don’t want it to be pronounced Day-lia.
If you don’t want it pronounced like how dahlias are (for ref: I’m British), then I’d not pick [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]. I’d go with [name_f]Dalia[/name_f].
Wait, can you clarify? I want it pronounced DAH-lee-a, not DAY-lee-a, but don’t love the spelling with the H. Not sure how it is pronounced in [name_f]British[/name_f] [name_f]English[/name_f].
In [name_f]British[/name_f] [name_f]English[/name_f], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is day-lee-a. The flowers and the name. So I’d avoid that if you don’t want that pronunciation.
Interesting! I didn’t know it was pronounced differently across the pond. It’s dah-lee-a in the US.
Definitely [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] for me (I also think Dhalia is pretty). I pronounce both of them the same, DAHL-yah. I like the moody vibe from [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] more and the spelling looks more pleasing to me
I would pronounce [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] dah-lee-uh
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] looks best to me!
[name_f]Dalia[/name_f] (without the H) is also a Hebrew name meaning “hanging branch” and a [name_f]Goddess[/name_f] of fate in Lithuanian mythology as well as being related to the flower, if that changes anything!
I prefer [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], it just looks better, maybe Dolia could also be an option?
[name_f]Dalia[/name_f] and [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] are both incredible names. As [name_f]Mayim[/name_f] said – [name_f]Dalia[/name_f] has rich meaning, and [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is also symbolic in its own way.
Neither name reminds me in the slightest of [name_m]Black[/name_m] [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], to be honest. Although [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] has been my favourite name for years, so perhaps time has just destroyed that connotation for me, haha. I do prefer [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] > [name_f]Dalia[/name_f], but only just. You truly can’t go wrong either way.
I’d pronounce [name_f]Dalia[/name_f] as DAL-ya
And [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and DAH-leah
