I’m a huge fan of the book/movie The Outsiders and while that story has some unique names (Ponyboy…Sodapop) the one I keep coming back to is [name]Dallas[/name]. I love that name, and I really actually like it for a girl. I think the nn Dally would be especially cute for a little girl. This is just a thought, just something I’m curious about and wanted some other opinions on. [name]Love[/name] it or hate it, let me know!
[name]Dallas[/name] is really nice!
Other nicknames:
[name]Dolly[/name]
[name]Lassie[/name] (if you really want to g there )
~[name]Jasmine[/name]
I love it in the middle name spot, like [name]Bryce[/name] [name]Dallas[/name] [name]Howard[/name]. I like how it’s a bit ambiguous.
I like it. I think I’d prefer it as mn, personally. But, place names have always been around and I don’t think that one’s too far out there, while it’s also not Common. It’s actually currently a character name on the show “Suburgatory”. [name]One[/name] of the main adult character’s is named [name]Dallas[/name] and her daughter is named [name]Dalia[/name]. They’re supposed to both be overly prissy, shallow characters…but I don’t necessarily get that impression from either name. I like both of the names. And, probably because of hearing it over and over on the show, it’s a more of a girl name to me than a boy name now. A nn could be “Lass” also a play on being a little girl.
I personally find it really boring and I don’t know why. I [name]FEEL[/name] like it’s overused, but in reality I don’t think it is. I love your suggestion of Dally as a nickname, and although nobody else on here will agree with me, I think you should just do Dally as the official first name.
I adore it on girl
[name]Dalis[/name] is a legit girl’s name and one of my favorites. It’s a water name
I prefer it on a boy, but I can hear it on a girl. I think there’s one on Suburgatory.
I’m not a fan of this name on a girl. When I hear it, it makes me uncomfortable because it sounds like the parents named the girl for the place she was conceived (something I have no desire to know or think about). I realize that sounds crazy, especially since I don’t think that when it’s on a boy, but that’s my first impression.
If you like Dally, what about [name]Dahlia[/name]? That’s one of my favorites. I’m sure there are a lot more possibilities to get to that nn, too – I just can’t think of them right now.
I know a 3 year old girl named [name]Dallas[/name]. I think it is just adorable! I also met a baby girl named [name]Dallas[/name] about 5 years ago. Makes me think Country Girl! [name]Don[/name]'t mind it on a boy but it just seems femine to me.
I share the same feelings about [name]Dallas[/name]. And I like thompssn’s suggestion of “Lass” being a girl name.
Although, I wouldn’t want her being called “[name]Lassie[/name]” - as a reference to [name]Lassie[/name] the dog. =/
I like the sound on either a boy or a girl. I don’t really care for the city, so that would keep me from using it / gives me a slightly negative feel to the name.
Interesting; what’s the origin of this one?
[name]IMO[/name], [name]Dallas[/name] doesn’t scream “conception name” more than any other place name (unless the parents go around specifically telling people that’s what the child is named for)…
[name]Dallas[/name] is also a surname. I think it’s fine as a first name - and certainly better than many(/most) place names, such as [name]Lourdes[/name], [name]London[/name], [name]Brooklyn[/name] and [name]Paris[/name]. It could grow on me even though I don’t like the city. I wouldn’t worry about the “conception name” thing at all!
I prefer [name]Dalis[/name] to [name]Dallas[/name].
With [name]Dallas[/name] I think of our local weatherman and the old soap opera and the yucky airport/city. Not good connections.
I think it’s great that you love the character but I think it would be just as awesome to use the sound but not the spelling.
