WDYT of [name_m]Dan[/name_m] as a stand alone name? We like [name_m]Dan[/name_m] and [name_u]Danny[/name_u] but not [name_m]Daniel[/name_m].
It is historically a different name to [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] (think the tribe of [name_m]Israel[/name_m]) with its own (not great) story.
We thought we had decided on a name but I just keep looking for another option and this is a name we considered if our last daughter was a boy.
Thanks for your input,

Too insubstantial. But then I am a [name_m]Dan[/name_m] ([name_f]Danielle[/name_f]) and have never been crazy about my name.

I think it’s fine as a stand alone name. It’s better than a nicknamey, cutesy name and it has it’s own history of use, as you said.
If you decide you want it as a nickname, there are options besides [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]:
Abidan
[name_u]Adan[/name_u]
[name_u]Aidan[/name_u]
Amidan
[name_m]Brendan[/name_m]
[name_m]Danton[/name_m]
Dantrell
Dardan
[name_u]Edan[/name_u]
[name_m]Eldan[/name_m]
[name_m]Gordan[/name_m]
[name_u]Jordan[/name_u]
