Daphne or Gwendolen

Hey everyone! I love these two names but I can’t decide which one I like better. Would love to hear your thoughts :two_hearts:

Thank you!

They are both stunning, but I like [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] slightly more because it has more nickname options, [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], [name_f]Wendy[/name_f], [name_u]Olly[/name_u] and [name_u]Lenny[/name_u] being the most obvious

[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]! I slightly prefer the spelling [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] though

They’re both nice, but I love Gwendolen! It’s so sweet, unique nowadays and has lovely nicknames.

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] 100% it’s pretty with great Greek roots.
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] feels very clunky to me and I have difficulty imagining it on a baby or young child. So my vote goes to [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]

I like both but I really love [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] as a nickname, so I would give [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] the edge here.

I never thought of [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]. That is so cute! The name makes me think of a little girl weaving a flower crown in a meadow somewhere haha

I adore the nickname [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]. It has such a unique, soft sound to it. It is so sophisticated and feminine. The nickname possibilities are a great part of what sell this name to me.

That’s fair. While I do love both names, I’m particularly drawn to the meaning of [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] which is ”laurel tree”. I would love to pick out a botanical name for a daughter even if it’s a little more subtle compared to a [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or a [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

Thank you to everyone who has posted. I greatly appreciate it! It looks like [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] is winning so far.

Such a hard choice! But I think probably [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], like a previous poster said I like the variety of nicknames.

But I also think [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is gorgeous as name duo

Both are wonderful! I’d pick [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] though! It’s stunning! Loving the nickname possibilities as well

I prefer [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] because I love [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]. But [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] as a full name, or sisters named [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] work really well! I like the way the two names play off each other.

Seconding this! I actually don’t love Gwendolen in full but Gwen is so fabulous I have to lend it my vote.

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is short and sweet. [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] is also nice but longer and clunkier.

I adore both, but my vote goes to [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] purely because I prefer [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] to [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f].

Gwendolen! I have never been able to come around to Daphne… it just doesn’t sound pretty to me.

I love both but love [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] even more, it’s on my list of favorites. Also I don’t know how strong or lasting the association is between [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and the Bridgerton show, but I keep seeing references to that association right now in articles about names.
