[name_f]My[/name_f] husband surprised me last night - he now likes [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]! So what do you think about this name, and which name do you prefer, [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] or [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Laurie[/name_u]?)? Also, which one do you prefer with big sister [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]? Thanks for your help, I feel like we’ve been doing some great progress lately!
I love both! They have very different feels to me. [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] is very soft while [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] less soft and more spunky. I prefer [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] as a name, but [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] is gorgeous.
I am not too fond of [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] is beautiful, spunky, and a nature name. I think [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] work together for their spunkiness while [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] work together for their timeless feel.
This is a tough one. I’m actually not a big [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] fan, but something about sisters [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is just adorable. However, I like [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] the best by itself and since we spend most of our lives NOT associated with our siblings, I’m going with [name_f]Laurel[/name_f].
I prefer [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] sounds very dated, due to it’s similarity to [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] and [name_f]Laura[/name_f], to me and I’m generally not too fond of them. I do think that [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] sounds older than [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and don’t think that they’re the perfect match (which is totally fine) but I like a sibset of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] a thousand times better than [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Laurel[/name_f].
I prefer [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] second cousin’s wife is [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] but she always goes by [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] because she hates [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] so her own feelings on her own name make me not like it.
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f], for sure!
Oh definitely [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]. It’s a really pretty name and I think it goes well with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].
I love both names, and have for a long time. [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] is a name I’ve considered for myself. That being said, I think that [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] sound better together for some reason. I think it’s the “timeless” or “classic” thing vibe they have going for them. [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] is, too, but [name_f]Laura[/name_f] would be moreso. [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] makes it more a nature name, [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] a more mythological name.
I prefer [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] but I like [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] as well!
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is a sweet and simple girl name.
I love [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. It’s sweet, spunky, and feminine. I think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] sound pretty together.
I prefer [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
I have a cousin named [name_f]Laurel[/name_f], and it suits her beautifuly. She loves it and so do I (I was always jealous of it when we were little). I also tend to like nature names that are not obviously nature names.
[name_f]My[/name_f] best friends mom is [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]. For some reason it feels like I have marbles in my mouth when I say it.
I like [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] much better.
Thanks for all the replies! I’m really leaning towards [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] at the moment, but I may still change my mind. I also really like [name_f]Laurel[/name_f], but it is my understanding that it can be pronounced 2 different ways. This quote from the babynamewizard website explains it well:
“[name_f]My[/name_f] daughter is also named [name_f]Laurel[/name_f], but we don’t pronounce it [name_m]LAW[/name_m]-rel as noted above. It’s more like [name_f]LORE[/name_f]-l, with the first syllable like [name_f]LORE[/name_f] in folklore.”
So we would say it like she does. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer one prononciation over the other? Which one are you more familiar with. Thanks!
I think both [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] are absolutely lovely! And actually, they go very nicely together as sister names, in my opinion.
But with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], I slightly prefer [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] are wonderful names for sisters.
Good luck!
What beautiful names to have to choose between! [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is definitely has some spunk to it but [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] is just gorgeous! I definitely think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] are a timeless set. I would pronounce it [name_f]Lore[/name_f]-l.
I prefer [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] to [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]. I say [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] as lore-el.
[name_m]Both[/name_m] lovely names, but I like [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] better, especially with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. I’ve always heard it pronounced [name_f]LORE[/name_f]-l; I think it would be pronounced [name_m]LAW[/name_m]-rel by Spanish and Italian speakers. I used to work with a woman named [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] who usually went by her full name but was “[name_f]Lola[/name_f]” when she was feeling spunky!
