My boyfriend and I were just discussing names, after finding out that his older sister is expecting. He suggested [name]Darby[/name] for a little girl, after his favourite football/soccer team [name]Derby[/name] County, and where he lived until he was 12 ([name]Derby[/name] is pronounced [name]Darby[/name], something I learned from him, haha). I can see his reasons, but I honestly don’t like it all that much, I like [name]Darcy[/name], but [name]Darby[/name]'s too manly for me, not sure why. What do you think of it? Is [name]Darby[/name] usable?
I see [name]Darby[/name] as a red-cheeked middle-aged Irishman, personally.
I went to university in [name]Derby[/name]. I can only think of the football club and city when I hear the name. It shouldn’t be used on a person.
Snap. Though my first thought was horse racing —> Epsom [name]Derby[/name] —> 1913 —> [name]Emily[/name] [name]Davidson[/name] getting trampled by a horse. Yes, my mind works in mysterious ways, but I still don’t think [name]Derby[/name]/[name]Darby[/name] is much good as a name.
A friend of mine (female) is named [name]Darby[/name], so all I see is a girl. It’s not my personal favorite, but I definitely see it as more feminine than masculine.
I had a Female [name]Art[/name] teacher named [name]Darby[/name], I didn’t care much for her.
I knew a girl named [name]Darby[/name] also. I think it’s pretty cute on a little baby/girl, but not sure it would wear well on an adult.
I always thought of [name]Darby[/name] as a boys name till I saw this post. I never liked it but now that I think of it on a girl I kind of do like it
I really don’t think it works well on a girl. It is very masculine, and doesn’t sound super attractive to me.
It’s not a very pleasant sounding name, and it makes me think of horses and hats.

I know a female [name]Darby[/name] who’s incredibly obnoxious; that aside, I really don’t like it as a name for either sex.
My daughter’s name is [name]Darby[/name]! We live in the US, so no one has heard of it… and we get TONS of compliments!
I only think of the place - [name]Derby[/name]…But [name]Darcy[/name] is lovely!
