We do not know the sex yet, but I’ve been harping my husband about names for weeks! Anyway I posed the name [name]Eloise[/name] to him the other night, saying that it has the [name]Ellie[/name] nickname he likes but in a longer form and he actually likes it! And I love the nms of [name]Lou[/name] and [name]Lulu[/name]. However I want to use the middle name [name]Mae[/name]. Does [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Mae[/name] still conjure up images of hillbillies or is it ok to use?
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Mae[/name]. Hmm if you have any other suggestions, I’d love to hear! Our last name is 2 syllables and starts with M and ends with in DY.
Congrats on agreeing - no small feat! [name]Eloise[/name] is a beautiful choice, and bonus points for getting hubby a nn he likes I will admit, [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is a bit hillbilly to me, but I’m probably hypersensitive to that perception due to being located in the southern midwest! Besides, she’s not likely to be called [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Mae[/name] by anyone but family. However, I opted for a second middle for my daughter to solve the same problem - don’t know if that’s an option for you or if it would just add another name to agree on. Then again, I sprung the double middle on DH in the delivery room, when he’d probably have agreed to anything (I swear I’m not evil, I just went into labor early and we didn’t have the middle settled ahead of time - it was not premeditated!). Have fun deciding what to do - they’re all good choices
You could do [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]. [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] is less hillbilly than [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Mae[/name] to me.
Congrats on deciding! Its definitely very difficult to come up with the perfect name that both of you can agree on, haha!! I adore the name [name]Eloise[/name] and would use it in a heartbeat if the husband loved it just as much as I do! [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Mae[/name] flows well and I think would make the perfect combo. [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Mae[/name] doesn’t conjure up any hillbilly images for me. Maybe its because I live in [name]Wales[/name]? I dunno, don’t have that image. [name]Just[/name] a pretty little girl with a beaming smile, haha!! I love it, [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is gorgeous. And even if it does bother you, maybe you could just call her [name]Ellie[/name] or [name]Lulu[/name] instead?
[name]Bree[/name]
Or [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Faye[/name]. Or [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Faith[/name]? [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Faith[/name] doesn’t sound as hillbilly as [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Mae[/name]. Although, [name]Mae[/name] is a lovely name.
First of all, I really, really like the name [name]Eloise[/name] and think the nick names [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Lulu[/name], [name]Lou[/name] are all adorable.
I don’t have an opinion about [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Mae[/name] being hillbilly, but I did think of the name [name]Lula[/name] [name]Mae[/name] from Breakfast at [name]Tiffany[/name]'s. [name]Holly[/name] Golightly’s ([name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn’s character) birth name was [name]Lula[/name] [name]Mae[/name], but she changed it after running away to New [name]York[/name] City. I don’t think this makes the name any less precious, but it might be something to consider?
If it’s between keeping [name]Eloise[/name] and [name]Mae[/name], I’d keep [name]Eloise[/name]. That is, unless [name]Mae[/name] has significance to you…
I like [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Mae[/name]. I love both names–in fact, I’m thinking of someday using [name]Mae[/name] as a middle name myself. (It was my late grandmother’s middle name, but I like it even without that. It really works with a lot of names, imo.)
Most people are going to see it as [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Mae[/name]. Only you will see it as [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Mae[/name]. If that bugs you, change it. If it doesn’t… Well, I wouldn’t let a nickname + a middle name sounding a little hillbilly stop me. It’s a little “country”, but that has a certain charm rather than a negative connotation for me.
[name]Love[/name] it! Stylish and adorable! If the worst thing you can say about [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is the hillbilly thing, I think you will be fine!! Two very pretty names!
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is simply darling. I don’t think [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Mae[/name] sounds like a hillbilly, it conjures up a little girl with bouncy curls and a flouncy dress for me. Good luck!
