shamelessly stealing this from @caroline_g because i had so much fun answering her similar question. make sure to check her post daughter to caroline out if you enjoy this!
what would you name my future first son and daughter based solely on the fact that my name is hannah? and as a bonus, knowing my partner’s name is a modern spelling variation of tristan, how does that affect your answer?
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f] and modern sp of [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] could have kids:
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Zoe[/name_u] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] (choosing classic but not overly popular, since [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] is classic and modern-sp-Tristan doesn’t want the kids to have names they’d need to spell)
or
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] ‘Nola’ and [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] [name_u]Elias[/name_u] ‘Finn’ (choosing modern/on trend/cool choices, that are less well known but also easy to spell, if [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] wanted names more unusual than hers and modern-sp-Tristan wanted something modern too)
The first things that came to mind were [name_f]Willa[/name_f] & [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]. I love the sound of “Hi! I’m [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] and this is my daughter [name_f]Willa[/name_f] / Marigold.” But I kind of feel it’s because I associate those names with you.
I would choose [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_m]Sylas[/name_m]!
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] has the same graceful, homespun vibe as [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], and a medieval connection like (variant of) [name_u]Tristan[/name_u].
[name_m]Sylas[/name_m] is a modern spelling variation like (variant of) [name_u]Tristan[/name_u], and its usage is tied to the Protestant Reformation like [name_f]Hannah[/name_f].
oh this is such a fun idea! [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] is a biblical name like [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], but considerably less common (I adore the name [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] but I knew a lot growing up and maybe you did to?!). Also the nickname [name_f]Tabby[/name_f] has the same sweet homespun feel (‘I’m [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] and this is my daughter Tabby’ just feels right) and the fact she begins with ‘T’ honours her dad. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] combo is [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]! [name_u]Gideon[/name_u] is another less-popular biblical pick; I feel like [name_u]Gideon[/name_u] and [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] make grade siblings (Giddy and Tabby!) and even though it’s a different style to [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] they both feel very sleek and end in ‘n’. I like [name_u]Gideon[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] as a combo, another T name for [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] and [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f].
did this without checking your uc so apologies if I’m wildly off!
@Greyblue you are so on the mark here! caroline and matthew are family names, and we both love silas. i have always wanted a vintage name a little rarer than mine too- and though caroline and silas are rising they still feel special. griffin and magnolia are also names i could see us going with, especially with nicknames finn and nola!
@melia22 it makes my heart happy that you chose willa marigold is a name we’re considering heavily because it’s t’s birth flower, and i agree, it’s perfect for us! corbin and wilder are old favorites of mine, and i absolutely adore robert. philip is my brother’s middle name too- which would be the sweetest connection!
@acajou first of all, hearing you describe my name as graceful and homespun makes me love it even more! i agree that mabel has the same vibe, and i think i really gravitate toward names like that! sylas is very handsome. it reminds me of myles a bit, and feels a tad puritan and ancient because of it!
@Mary_Rose i’m loving all the biblical names! and yes, i did know a lot of hannah’s growing up, and it is something i’d like my daughter not to experience (if possible!). tabitha and gideon is a darling sibset, and actually names of two of my great grandfather’s siblings, which makes it all the sweeter.
[name_f]My[/name_f] immediate thought for a boy is [name_m]Myles[/name_m]
I can envision you and your partner with a modern sp of [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] with a son called [name_m]Myles[/name_m] as he’s very classic, sweet and simple like [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]. But he also has that modern twist like your fiancé with the ‘y’ spelling. I actually think [name_m]Myles[/name_m] stylistically feels very cohesive with a more modern [name_u]Tristan[/name_u].
Some other ideas could be [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] ‘Kit’, [name_m]Nathanael[/name_m] ‘Nate’, [name_u]Bennett[/name_u] ‘Ben’, [name_m]Sylas[/name_m], [name_u]Riley[/name_u], [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] ‘Cam’, [name_m]Truett[/name_m] and finally I think your [name_u]William[/name_u] ‘Billy’ works well.
[name_f]My[/name_f] immediate thought for a girl is [name_u]Hazel[/name_u]
I can envision a [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] specifically with a daughter named [name_u]Hazel[/name_u]. [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] is cosy, warm and sweet just like [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]. [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] is also having her moment in the sun like [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] did around 20 or so years ago so they have that fashionable classic sound. I also think it’s nice to connect mother + daughter by both names beginning with ‘ha’
Some other ideas could be [name_f]Averie[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_u]Florence[/name_u], [name_u]Willow[/name_u] or [name_u]Winslow[/name_u] ‘Winnie’
I have come back, as I had a really weird dream last night.
I had a dream last night about @emeraldsea and you had a little boy, I asked his name and it was [name_u]William[/name_u]! I literally thought that was like the cutest thing ever and I had to tell you!
@tori101 would you believe me if i told you the name we had for our son way back when we met (at the beginning of high school) was myles? definitely need to revisit him. hazel is also a darling choice; i’d love to have a connection between mine and my daughter’s name. we also adore truett, christopher (my dad’s name), matilda, esther, and florence!
@melia22 you are going to make me cry i had a ton of weird dreams last night (must be the solstice) but one i distinctly remember was that t and i were moving away with our two young sons- william john + silas robert. i’m not sure why, but i remember distinctly writing their names down. t is championing the name william for our first boy, and i think he just might get his wish.
@emeraldsea honestly that’s so funny! I think [name_m]Myles[/name_m] is perfect for you guys I really like [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] for you and I think [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] being a family name is perfect.
@emeraldsea hello! i think you have the most lovely style & i’m honored that you were inspired by my post! as i read through the suggestions i have to second @tori101’s suggestions, myles and christopher, and @melia22 's suggestion, william! i can absolutely see hannah’s son having any of these lovely names
