Daughters of the Romantic Poets

I’m currently in a college literature class that has been focusing on the Romantic poets, such as [name]William[/name] Wordsworth, [name]Lord[/name] [name]Byron[/name], [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Taylor[/name] [name]Coleridge[/name], and [name]Percy[/name] Bysshe [name]Shelley[/name].

Many of these poets had illegitimate marriages in addition to their legal wives, as well as many mistresses. So, most were the fathers to many well-named children.

We were going over a timeline today of a few lives of the poets, and the names of their daughters were just exquisite! I couldn’t help but think that my fellow Berries would enjoy hearing the names of the Romantic’s children just as much as I did!

Wordsworth’s daughters consisted of more traditional names:
[name]Isabella[/name]
[name]Helen[/name]
[name]Mary[/name]

[name]Lord[/name] [name]Byron[/name] has some gorgeously names daughters:
[name]Augusta[/name] [name]Ada[/name], later became [name]Ada[/name] Lovelace.
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Allegra[/name], who went by [name]Allegra[/name]. She was originally named [name]Alba[/name], but [name]Lord[/name] [name]Byron[/name] desired her to be called [name]Allegra[/name].
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Medora[/name] [name]Leigh[/name], who went by [name]Medora[/name]. Although his niece, she is thought to be the result of [name]Byron[/name]'s incest relationship with his sister.

[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Taylor[/name] [name]Coleridge[/name]'s daughter:
[name]Sara[/name]
Although [name]Sara[/name] might seem very traditional, his three sons were named [name]Hartley[/name], [name]Berkeley[/name], and Derwent.

[name]Percy[/name] Bysshe [name]Shelley[/name]'s daughter’s were named wonderfully as well:
[name]Ianthe[/name] [name]Eliza[/name], his daughter with his legal wife.
[name]Elena[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name], who may have been the result of [name]Shelley[/name]'s affair with an Italian woman. His name was on the birth certificate.
[name]Clara[/name], who was the first daughter of his and [name]Mary[/name] [name]Shelley[/name]. She died prematurely.
[name]Clara[/name] Everina was the another daughter to [name]Percy[/name] and [name]Mary[/name] [name]Shelley[/name], named after the deceased older sister. I think Everina is hauntingly beautiful, and very surprising!

I hope you all enjoyed this as much as I do! I personally think every name of the Romantic’s daughters is gorgeous!

Thank you [name]Bryanna[/name]!
[name]Medora[/name] is wonderful and [name]Ianthe[/name] [name]Eliza[/name] is bewitchingly beautiful.

I’ve always loved [name]Ianthe[/name]! Such a beautiful name. [name]Ianthe[/name] was also used by [name]Percy[/name] Bysshe [name]Shelley[/name] in his poem “[name]Queen[/name] [name]Mab[/name]” and [name]Lord[/name] [name]Byron[/name] as a nickname for Lady [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Harley[/name], to whom he dedicated “Childe [name]Harold[/name]'s Pilgrimage.”

Ahh, I love them all! [name]Clara[/name] Everina is my favorite, though–I agree, hauntingly beautiful is just it! Also loved seen [name]Isabella[/name] (popular though it may be!), [name]Elena[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], and [name]Ada[/name].

I like [name]Medora[/name], [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name].

Yay! I’m so glad you guys like them as much as I did!

[name]Mary[/name] and [name]Clara[/name] Everina are delightful! And [name]Percy[/name] Bysshe [name]Shelley[/name] is one of my favorite poets!

oooh, these are lovely! That was a fun read. Thanks for sharing!

Some lovely combos. Particularly love [name]Clara[/name] Everina. Charming  [name]Berkeley[/name] is an unfortunate name though!
