We’re expecting our baby boy any day now, and while we have a few names that we like just fine, I keep thinking there might be something better out there that will mean something complimentary (although ideally a bit more masculine) to the meaning of our daughter’s names: fn is very unique and means “region offering peace and contentment”/“pastoral paradise”, mn grace. (I’m trying to avoid posting her name all over the internet, but you can probably figure out what it is.) I love both the meaning and sound of DD’s name and just can’t seem to find an equivalent for a boy. I appeal to you all in the hope that some added thinking/searching power will help!
Some things that we value and would like to have a name represent, either through meaning or connotation: peace, contentment, strength, passion, nature-related things, intelligence, love of knowledge, curiosity, purpose
We tend to prefer more traditional boy’s names or unique names that have “normal” nicknames, but are considering everything!
[name]Zared[/name]
[name]Casimir[/name] ([name]Lovely[/name] meaning, but the name itself might be a bit heavy feeling. [name]Cass[/name] as a nickname?)
Damir (The “mir” element means “peace” in Slavic languages. Damir means “to give peace.” It may feel a bit out there, but I think it could work due to its similarity to more familiar names like [name]Damon[/name] and [name]Damien[/name].)
[name]Miran[/name] (Another one with the “mir” element. I think that this one is very wearable.)
[name]Salem[/name]
[name]Caedmon[/name]
[name]Avidan[/name] ("[name]Avi[/name]" or “[name]Dan[/name]” could both work as more low-key nicknames.)
[name]Callum[/name] / [name]Calum[/name]
[name]Mercer[/name]
[name]Bede[/name]
[name]Ferrand[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Galen[/name]
[name]Lachlan[/name]
[name]Atticus[/name]
[name]Solomon[/name] / [name]Solon[/name]
[name]Bayard[/name] / [name]Baer[/name]
[name]Lucian[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Bram[/name]
Thanks! That was a fun list to read, with lots of interesting options.
I like [name]Casimir[/name] a lot, though am not sure about actually using it. I love [name]Rowan[/name] and keep trying to put it back on the list, but I don’t think DH cares for it. My other favorites from your list are [name]Avidan[/name]/[name]Avi[/name], [name]Salem[/name], and [name]Atticus[/name]. And for some reason I can’t decide if I like or really hate [name]Oliver[/name]…
Oh, and right after I posted this I noticed the typo in the title…which got me thinking that [name]Chance[/name] is a cute name. Probably better for a dog than a child, though.
