Now that we’re actually TTC, I feel like I’ve been thrown for a loop, name-wise. I have so many favorites, but we only want to have 3 children at most, so there is limited space to use the names we both love. I’ve run into a dilemma about which names to use in which combos. Should I put two favorites in the same combo so that I know for sure they will both be used, even though one will be used on a daily basis and the other won’t be used unless someone asks “what’s your middle name?” Or should I try to make two separate combos so that both favorite names get daily use?
For example, Husband and I just had a conversation recently about girl names we both like (which was an unheard-of occurrence before we started TTC). We both [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] and [name_f]Nimue[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Morwenna[/name_f], which he likes for a middle, because he’s concerned it’s too unusual for a first. He loves [name_f]Lily[/name_f], which I like for a middle, but only if the first name is something really magical.
In this scenario, would it be better to go with [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] or [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_f]Nimue[/name_f], so that we know we’re both in love with both names? Or would it be better to go with something like [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_f]Morwenna[/name_f] so that both [name_f]Willow[/name_f] and [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] can be use-names? I worry that if we do the second option and name a girl [name_f]Nimue[/name_f], then we’ll only have one girl and never get to use [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. But I worry that if we do the first option and use both [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] and [name_f]Willow[/name_f] in one name, no other girl combo will be able to live up to the love we have for both those names - after all, it’s exceedingly rare for Hubby and I to like the same names, much less love them!
[name_f]Nimue[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is so gorgeous. I like [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_f]Morwenna[/name_f] better than both [name_f]Willow[/name_f]-[name_f]Nimue[/name_f] combos. They don’t do well.
I agree with the above :). [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is just stunning. [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] doesn’t seem to do either name complete justice.
I’m agreeing with the other two posters. [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] sounds much nicer than [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] and [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is beautiful!
Wow, [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] is cool! I do love [name_f]Willow[/name_f] though. I like [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] Or either name with a simpler middle name?
I think splitting them up isn’t a bad idea, if you don’t have a second girl, you can still the name on a pet or their favourite doll or stuffed animal.
However, even if you use both in the same combo and have a second girl, maybe you won’t love her name as much as her sister’s but as long as you love her just as much, I don’t think that will be a problem you’ll think too much about during her life.
Honestly I think you use whatever you love the most. No use in “saving” a name you love for a baby that doesn’t exist yet! For instance, you could have a daughter now and then have two sons, and never have the opportunity to use a girl’s name again!
You should use what you love the most. Chances are by the time you have a second child you will have a whole different set of names you love. I do think [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is gorgeous though
I have to admit I hadn’t heard of [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] before, but after reading about it (and hearing the correct pronounciation) I like it, although I would never be brave enough to use it myself.
In terms of combinations I really like [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_f]Morwenna[/name_f], there is something magical about both combos. Whether or not you should save a name is not an easy answer, you may save a name and as someone mentioned not have another daughter or you may use both then not be able to find a name you love as much. One thing to consider is that name taste can change so if you do use both names you may still find another combo that you love as much. But also by saving a name you then give yourself the chance to use both names you love on a (very) regular basis!
Sorry I am not being very helpful, what I would say is find the combo you love the most and use it, if it happens to be [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] or [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] then so be it, there are so many other gorgeous names out there that you can use for your next daughter and if you and your husband can agree on 2 names you can agree on 4 (I’m an optimist!), also I rather like [name_f]Morwenna[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a combo too!
I think this is when it is helpful to start thinking of sib-sets.
I for one would find sisters [name_f]Willow[/name_f] and [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] as an odd pairing. [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] and [name_f]Morwenna[/name_f] on the other hand make much more sense, as do [name_f]Willow[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] I suppose.
So I would focus on finding names you love as first names together first and then filling in the middle with other names that you love (sometimes equally as much i.e. [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_f]Nimue[/name_f]) as your second task.
So all those names that you love but lack cohesion can find a happy spot in the middle.
