Definitely discouraged over girl names!

29 weeks and no closer to having a name than we were at week 1. I really love [name_f]Brynn[/name_f], but my husband doesn’t love it as a first name (although I keep throwing it in the hat lol). I don’t think he’s written it off completely because he told me he mentioned it to his hair dresser as a possibility, so maybe he’s coming around lol!

Anyway, if we don’t use it as a first, I definitely would like to use it as a middle. I had all but decided on [name_u]Halle[/name_u] or [name_f]Hallie[/name_f], and my husband liked it too, but we are put off by the fact that there’s a lot of likelihood for mispronunciation. (I also asked an acquaintance with a daughter named [name_f]Hallie[/name_f], and she confirmed that they constantly get Hayley…) He likes [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], but I’m not sold on it.

I’m currently playing around with [name_f]Elena[/name_f], and I like [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband likes the name/nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], which he could use with [name_f]Elena[/name_f], and I like [name_u]Laney[/name_u] as a nickname. [name_f]My[/name_f] only dilemma is that I’m worried that it’s another name asking for mispronunciation. I am in the US and say eh-LAY-nuh, but I’m wondering if this would be intuitive for most people or if it’s another [name_f]Hallie[/name_f] situation.

Any thoughts or other suggestions that go with [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] as a middle?

I grew up with an [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and I will vouch that often it is mispronounced (el-ena) or misspelled (Alayna)

So if that is something that is really very important than you than that is something to be aware of.

However I say this in every post like this that I have seen every name mispronounced or misspelled at some point or an other. And the truth is if she goes [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_u]Laney[/name_u] it won’t be anymore if a problem than substitute teachers and official documents.

However [name_f]Elena[/name_f] is def on a much lower scale than Halle/Hallie/Hayley/Halie etc

I think [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] is a very sweet name. And might suggest also using [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] or [name_f]Leni[/name_f] spelling to streamline pronunciation. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is a sweet nickname for a modern girl but be wary that she will not be the only [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] in her class (but she might be the only Elena)

[name_f]My[/name_f] suggestions for some shortish girl names with less/ no pronunciation big red flags

[name_f]Liv[/name_f]
[name_u]Page[/name_u]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] / [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
[name_u]Aria[/name_u]
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]

I enjoy [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] and of my suggestions [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] and [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]

[name_f]Hallie[/name_f] is my all time favourite girls name it’s cute but sporty. Not overly trendy or too common either. I think it’s perfect and I think that it would be worth having to correct people on the pronunciation to be able to use that name.

I’m from Australia and would pronounce [name_f]Elena[/name_f] like [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] with an ‘a’ on the end. All the Elena’s I’ve met have used that pronunciation though I have heard of it pronounced the way you want.

I would use [name_f]Elena[/name_f] if I were you as, as you said it’s another name which will be pronounced incorrectly. So why not use [name_f]Hallie[/name_f], which you prefer.

I am also a fan of [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] but don’t use a name you don’t love.

Other names with a similar ‘feel’ to [name_f]Hallie[/name_f]

[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Tilly[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_u]Willow[/name_u]
[name_u]Harley[/name_u]
[name_u]Arlie[/name_u] (like [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] without the ch)
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

Personally, I adore the name [name_f]Hallie[/name_f]! So sweet and lively. I also think [name_f]Elena[/name_f] is a good option, with the nicknames you both like.

That said, here are some suggestions ~

delaney brynn “laney”
hazel brynn “ellie”
elise brynn “ellie”
callista brynn “callie”
mallory brynn
harlow brynn

[name_u]Or[/name_u] perhaps [name_u]Brinley[/name_u] or [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] as first name contenders?

What about [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] with the nn [name_f]Brynn[/name_f]?

[name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_m]Brynmor[/name_m]? [name_f]Brona[/name_f]? [name_f]Brenda[/name_f]?

I guess if you want to cut down the ambiguity spelling it [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] is more coherent for the way you want the name said.

I LOVE [name_f]Elena[/name_f]! It’s one of the prettiest names i’ve heard, and I love it pronounced Eh-LAY-nuh.
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] is a lovely combo
Xx

Your names are so lovely! Truthfully, every name gets misheard or mispronounced at some time or the next… [name_f]Hallie[/name_f] and [name_f]Elena[/name_f] are totally lovely. I have a cousin called [name_f]Hallie[/name_f] and went to school with an [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and a [name_f]Helena[/name_f] (heh-LAY-nuh) who have all dealt with mispronunciation, but who also get their names said properly much of the time!! In school, we other kids would always correct new teachers and substitutes on how to properly say [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and [name_f]Helena[/name_f], and people adjusted really easily. All this to say… I don’t personally think that the occasional mispronunciation would be enough to toss me off my favorite names. I hope they’ll still work out for you! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

[name_f]Elena[/name_f] with the [name_m]Lay[/name_m] sound is my instinctive pronunciation and [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] is pretty!

Naming is sooooooooooo hard!!! I found naming my daughter incredibly challenging just try to keep positive because you do have some time left and you’ve got some names floating around which is better than nothing. You’ve got this lovely you’ll find the perfect name :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Firstly I just want to say before moving onto the names that avoiding mispronunciation or the possibility of a name being misheard is impossible! Names often get misheard & mispronounced. I’m [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] it’s a very easy name I worked in a cafe as a teen it was cash in hand and was known as [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] for the year I worked there. [name_f]My[/name_f] wages were given to me in an envelope with [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] on it :joy::joy:
So honestly just try to focus on the name you like rather than mispronunciation as it’s impossible even with a name like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] to avoid.

Okay so I would pronounce [name_f]Elena[/name_f] eh-LAY-nuh and I think she’s stunning such a lovely name really elegant. However I have heard different pronunciations for this name aside from the one you want. I think [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] would be more indistinctive for the pronunciation you want if mispronunciation is a major concern for you guys. However if your not keen on [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] spelling wise then you are in a similar boat with [name_f]Elena[/name_f] that you are with [name_f]Hallie[/name_f] which makes me feel that you should just go with [name_f]Hallie[/name_f] which is a name you prefer. [name_f]Hallie[/name_f] is such a sweet endearing name! [name_f]Hallie[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] would be lovely.

You’ve had a few suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f]
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f]

I also really like the suggestion of [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] ‘Brynn’ I think this name is so pretty.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps :hugs:

I think [name_f]Elena[/name_f] is intuitive. I also think with the spelling [name_u]Halle[/name_u] you’d probably dodge the mispronunciation issue.

This would be my suggestion to you as well. It would cut out alot of the mispronunciation. It would still have spelling confusions I’m sure. But as a pp mentioned, I’m not sure you will ever find the perfect name that will never be mispronounced, mispelled or misheard.
