I don’t have a solution for [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_m]Jake[/name_m], [name_m]Luke[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], or [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], but I think you mind find [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] to be the perfect solution to get to [name_m]Nate[/name_m]! [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] B@nks sounds respectable and snappy.

Why wouldn’t [name_m]Jake[/name_m] [name_m]Banks[/name_m] work? [name_m]Jake[/name_m] has an -ay- sound, while [name_m]Banks[/name_m] -a- is short.
If [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Banks[/name_m] from [name_f]Mary[/name_f] Poppins works, and I feel it very much does, [name_m]Jake[/name_m] and [name_m]Nate[/name_m] shouldn’t be a problem.

I agree longer names with nicknames might be the best way to get what you’re after

[name_u]Max[/name_u] - [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]
[name_m]Jake[/name_m] - [name_m]Jacoby[/name_m]
[name_m]Luke[/name_m] - [name_u]Luca[/name_u]/[name_m]Luka[/name_m]
[name_m]Nate[/name_m] - [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_m]Nathan[/name_m], [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] - [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m] - [name_m]Cale[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]

Honestly I think all of those names are fine with [name_m]Banks[/name_m] - even [name_m]Caleb[/name_m]. They might not hold the perfection you imagined - but they’re all such great names and I doubt many people would ever think twice. I would go with the name you love most and if there’s multiple names you would consider your ‘top picks’ then use sound and flow to narrow it down.

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t know about OP, but [name_m]Banks[/name_m] in my region is definitely pronounced with a ay sound and I’ve never heard it any different.

I like the suggestion of [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] and I actually think [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]/[name_m]Lukas[/name_m] [name_m]Banks[/name_m] sounds fine

Never heard of it that way, I say it as in bank with an s; as in [name_f]Mary[/name_f] Poppins as in https://de.forvo.com/word/jane_banks/#en

This is so interesting. To me “[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Banks[/name_m]” has exactly the same vowel sounds. Basically “[name_f]Jayne[/name_f] Baynks”. It’s how I pronounce “bank” too, like “baynk”. (I’ve never heard differently)
When I listen to the audio recording, the words sound the same- I can’t distinguish a difference. I’m from the middle part of the [name_f]East[/name_f] Coast, btw!

I understand your dilemma but disagree with you that some of these are really unusable. I have a similar issue with some names, last name sounds like “[name_u]Allison[/name_u]” so I don’t like anything that ends on -on or -en or l, and many names I love like [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Helen[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] are just too much eh and L sounds. That said my husband is [name_m]Jason[/name_m], which ends in -son just like our last name and has never even noticed this though he’s lived with it for 30+ years.

I think [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Banks[/name_m] does have the issue you say, and [name_m]Knox[/name_m] [name_m]Banks[/name_m] just doesn’t flow. I think [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Banks[/name_m] is still ok, though I can see why you wouldn’t like the flow.

But I think [name_m]Jake[/name_m], [name_m]Luke[/name_m], and [name_m]Nate[/name_m] sound fine. You could try [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] or [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], then the formal name such as would be used at announcements, graduations, awards, etc doesn’t bother you, but you could still call them [name_m]Jake[/name_m], [name_m]Luke[/name_m] or [name_m]Nate[/name_m] at home and when the full name isn’t necessary.
