Maybe keep old list as possible middles? Although jem & [name_u]Kit[/name_u] sound too girly for me. I think [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_m]Alphie[/name_m] & [name_u]Jace[/name_u] need full names. I think nn evolve & don’t have to be so exact.

[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] is a tough one other than the obvious [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. Unless it’s [name_m]Charleston[/name_m].

[name_m]Alphie[/name_m] - I think pretty much any “[name_m]Al[/name_m]” name would work - [name_m]Alpheus[/name_m], Allister, [name_m]Alonzo[/name_m]

[name_u]Jace[/name_u] - [name_m]Jackson[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]

[name_m]Soren[/name_m] does sound girly to me

I like [name_u]Murphy[/name_u] & [name_u]Percy[/name_u] on their own. I don’t think they sound nicknamey.

Old list:

[name_u]Harley[/name_u] - rough edges with a gentle feel. I like it!

[name_u]James[/name_u]/[name_u]Jem[/name_u] - [name_u]James[/name_u] is one of my least favourites as i just find it so bland, sorry. [name_u]Jem[/name_u] is nice though. Soft but cool and oddly I don’t mind [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] or [name_u]Jay[/name_u]

[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] - mythical with a fresh modern vibe. [name_m]Felix[/name_m] or [name_u]Finley[/name_u] could be more grounded alternatives?

[name_u]River[/name_u] - I don’t see this as too out there at all. It feels earthy and familiar. [name_u]Evan[/name_u] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]/[name_u]Reese[/name_u] have similar sounds and feels but are less out there maybe? Or [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] or [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]?

[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m]-actually strikes me as quite on trend. It’s grown on me. [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], [name_u]Orion[/name_u], [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] or [name_u]Kai[/name_u] maybe?

[name_m]Ryder[/name_m] -i really don’t like it, sorry . It sounds harsh and too much to me. [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], [name_u]Reilly[/name_u], [name_u]Reeve[/name_u], [name_u]Reid[/name_u], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Silas[/name_m]?

[name_u]Kit[/name_u] -i like nicknamey names so for me it totally works. It’s cool, effortless, cute but serious. [name_u]Kai[/name_u], [name_u]Curtis[/name_u], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and [name_m]Jax[/name_m] come to mind

[name_u]August[/name_u] -i like [name_u]August[/name_u] but if you’re not feeling it any more, I’d lose it. [name_m]Archer[/name_m] ‘[name_m]Archie[/name_m]’, [name_u]Everest[/name_u], [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_m]Lucas[/name_m], [name_m]Casper[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] give me kind of similar vibes

[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] - I like it but again, lose it if it’s not for you. I suggested it as an alternative to [name_u]River[/name_u], but perhaps [name_u]River[/name_u] is the one for you. [name_m]Sean[/name_m], [name_u]Chase[/name_u], [name_m]Ross[/name_m] or [name_m]Ewan[/name_m]?

[name_u]Dean[/name_u] - [name_u]Dean[/name_u] is great! Familiar but underused and it’s fun that you have a good association with it!
[name_m]Ian[/name_m], [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] and [name_m]Declan[/name_m]?

Capsian - I love [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and it’s connections and sounds, but if it’s not quite right, [name_m]Killian[/name_m]/[name_m]Cillian[/name_m], [name_m]Kian[/name_m] and [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] came to mind
[name_m]Heath[/name_m] is solid and okay but it doesn’t jump out at me either.

[name_u]Harley[/name_u], [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_u]Dean[/name_u] and [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] all sound like solid good choices

[name_m]New[/name_m] crushes:

[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] -it’s popular here in the UK so it doesn’t seem too nicknamey at all! It’s substantial and works well on it’s own

[name_u]Alfie[/name_u] -another one that’s popular here as a stand alone so it doesn’t strike me as cutesy. [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] is definitely my preferred spelling

[name_m]Soren[/name_m]-[name_m]Soren[/name_m] strikes me as unisex but also boyish like [name_u]Harley[/name_u]. I like it. [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], [name_m]Conan[/name_m], [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], [name_m]Stellan[/name_m], [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] and [name_u]Kiernan[/name_u] could be alternatives though

[name_u]Murphy[/name_u] -love the sounds and meaning!! Not too surnamey. [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] also has a sea related meaning if that’s what you’re after and [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] gives me similar vibes. [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] is kind of similar but more namey?

[name_u]Percy[/name_u]- one of my faves! Soft, studious and literary but also adventurous and cheeky! I like it a lot. [name_u]Toby[/name_u], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Raffy[/name_m], [name_u]Rory[/name_u] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m] give me a similar feel

[name_m]Jason[/name_m] is okay and I’d say [name_u]Jace[/name_u] was usable.

I like your old list alot more.
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] are amazing. I don’t find [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] or [name_u]River[/name_u] too out there. A little different but not out there.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

Here are my thoughts on your lists:

OLD LIST
[name_u]Harley[/name_u] -[name_m]Even[/name_m] though it’s not my personal favorite, I love the special connection. And it’s not at all a terrible name.

[name_u]James[/name_u] “[name_u]Jem[/name_u]” -[name_u]Jem[/name_u] is adorable. I picture a little guy in overalls playing in the woods, but I also can picture a businessman. Or a ballplayer! It’s just handsome & charming any way you look at it. Is [name_u]James[/name_u] a family name? If so, keep it. If not, you could consider [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]/[name_m]Jerome[/name_m]/[name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] nn [name_u]Jem[/name_u] instead.

[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] -It’s a little too out there for me. Hard to actually picture on a person.

[name_u]River[/name_u] -I love this one. It’s unique, but sounds more like a name. I feel like it’s gentle yet rugged at the same time. It’s simple & grows up well.

[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] -I don’t think that this seems in the classic category. I think it sounds sort of cowboy-ish & adorable. I really like it.

[name_m]Ryder[/name_m]-I think it’s really cool, & especially w/the special connection. I do prefer [name_m]Rider[/name_m] though. It looks softer, & makes more sense since that’s how the word is spelled.

[name_u]Kit[/name_u] -I’m a big fan of [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a nn. It is darling on a little guy & works for an adult too, but still seems nick-namey . [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Beckett[/name_m] or [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]? Maybe even [name_m]Crispin[/name_m]?

[name_u]August[/name_u] - I like it, but if you don’t love it anymore that happens. [name_m]Augie[/name_m] is adorable.

[name_u]Reece[/name_u]/[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] - This is okay. I much prefer [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], but hear [name_u]Reese[/name_u] on girls way too often. So annoying.

[name_u]Dean[/name_u] - This is good. I can’t personally get into it, but it’s nice. Kind of a similar feeling to [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m].

[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] - I think it’s cool. Most of the world doesn’t know about trendy names on Nameberry, LOL. The nn Caspi is darling. Are you a C.S. [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] fan? If so, even better reason to use it.

[name_m]Heath[/name_m] - Meh, I don’t care for this one. It’s fine & different, but just doesn’t have a pretty sound.

[name_m]NEW[/name_m] CRUSHES:

[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] - I love this one so much that I don’t even care that it’s too nick-namey. It’s so much better than [name_m]Charles[/name_m] that it’s not worth it to use the full name.

[name_m]Alphie[/name_m]/[name_u]Alfie[/name_u] - I love it too. I do think it’s sort of nick-namey, but don’t love [name_m]Alfred[/name_m]. I’ve toyed w/[name_m]Albert[/name_m] (my grandpa’s name) or [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] nn [name_u]Alfie[/name_u]. I definitely prefer [name_u]Alfie[/name_u]. [name_m]Alphie[/name_m] looks off.

[name_m]Soren[/name_m] - Nah, I think it’s very strong & masculine. I like it. It is unique yet simple.

[name_u]Murphy[/name_u] -I want to like this one, but can’t get into it. It just reminds me of a bushy bearded guy for some reason.

[name_u]Percy[/name_u] -I think it’s really cute & like the literary connection. I prefer it as a nn for [name_m]Percival[/name_m], but could work on its own.

[name_m]Jason[/name_m]/[name_u]Jace[/name_u] -Hm. Could you do [name_m]Justin[/name_m] or [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] nn [name_u]Jace[/name_u]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like either of those better? [name_u]Jace[/name_u] is not my style. It sounds kind of frat-boyish to me, but I can see the appeal.

Thank you for all the replies!

@summs thank you for the suggestions! I do find the longer names for [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] old-fashioned, which is why I prefer the abbreviated versions, but [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is a new one for nn [name_u]Jace[/name_u]!

@greyblue from your suggestions, I love [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and [name_u]Kai[/name_u]! I’ll give the others some thought, thank you for your detailed response!

@michellem yes, [name_u]James[/name_u] is a family name! From your suggestions I like [name_m]Adrian[/name_m], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] and [name_u]Tristan[/name_u]. Thank you for your reply!
