Delilah

Hello! Has anyone got any opinion on this name? I feel like I have looked at every name that exists and found a reason to dismiss them all! Me and my partner came across “Delilah” - I like the fact that it is a little unusual and nickname Lilah… but I am not certain… any thoughts (?!)

I love [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. It sounds lovely, looks lovely and has a few gorgeous nicknames (my fav is Lilah).

I really like Delilah! It has a very musical sound, so it’s fun to say. Just in case you don’t know, it’s actually popular at the moment: not that that’s a bad thing, but because you mentioned liking that it’s unusual. Lovely name!

Thank you for the replies

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s a name that would suit in to adulthood? I feel like I am going name blind ! Is there any other nicknames that could be derived except [name_f]Lilah[/name_f]? Not keen on Dell…!

I have circled so many names it’s driving me crazy!

I just want to make sure I choose something that my daughter won’t hate in the future / growing up!!!..

Our other current thoughts are:

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] - do like but not certain, if we don’t use probably be a middle
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - I see the appeal classic/ simple etc
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] - this was a fave but I’ve read so much negativity on this name it’s put me off a bit!

Other names I liked but have been discounted by OH include [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] … amongst others

Thank you for your help !

I loooovvvvveeee [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

It works for a kid and adult. Ages well imo.
Prefer [name_f]Lila[/name_f] to [name_f]Lilah[/name_f].
Could also get [name_f]Delia[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_u]Elia[/name_u], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], Ila/Isla…

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] - not a fan of the harsh scar part and it rhymes with harlot.
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - like it. Would make a cute sibset with [name_f]Delilah[/name_f].
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] - try not to be put off by others negative comments. If you love it go for it. Quite a lovely name tbh.

Not too sure what to suggest. [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], Juniper???

I think of that super overplayed song Hey there [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. But its a very sweet name!

Thanks again for the replies
It’s hard not to get swayed by others opinions…!

[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] was my favourite for ages then I read all this I feel you nonsense! it never even crossed my mind… would it really cross peoples minds in real life (?!) … my only real concern was that (to me) it sounded a little posh and I couldn’t think of a nice shortening of it…

I found [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] as a similar option when searching through… I guess it’s melodic etc but maybe more known.

Thank you for your input!

I really like it,but I think it’s a bit problematic , my cousin is called [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] (we call her Lilah)and the first thing people she meets say when they hear her name is Hey There [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] (people (especially children) seem to find that very very funny),she says she lost count how many times she had to hear it and I lost count how many times she said that she wants to have another name

i love Delilah! it’s sweet and stunning! i definitly think Delilah would work for adulthood too! I think Lilah is the best nickname!

It’s a gorgeous name. I’ll mention, since no one has yet, that the Bible story of [name_m]Samson[/name_m] and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] has given the name [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] a negative association. It would make [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] unusable for me, but I do think that association is fading in our culture nowadays, or at least is no longer seen as so problematic.

I love [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]! I really enjoy the flow and bright feel

I love [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]! It’s very fun and charming  I wouldn’t call it unusual, though. It’s pretty popular right now!

[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] is sweet, romantic and elegant! I love it!

I love [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]! It the top name on my list for a really long time, before eventually I decided I preferred [name_f]Della[/name_f] on its own, instead of as a nickname for [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. I think it sounds sweet and feminine, but also has enough backbone and spunk that it’s not too sickly sweet, if that makes sense?
Anyways, I think it’s a great name all around, and if both you and your partner love it, then I see no reason to not use it

[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: I saw in another one of your comments that you like [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] too, which I think is also lovely. In response to your question about how to shorten it, my favorite nickname would be [name_f]Fia[/name_f]! I would have never thought of the I-feel-ya thing, I think that might fall into over thinking territory, which I know us Berries have a tendency to do! [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] would be well-matched as sisters in my opinion.

I like [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] and love the nn [name_f]Lilah[/name_f]! [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] are my favorite [name_f]Lily[/name_f] names.

[name_f]Della[/name_f] and [name_u]Dell[/name_u] are other nn options

Thank you all for your comments they are much appreciated.

I think we have finally decided on a name that is different from most we’ve considered !!

We are going with [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]! So not quite [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] but we like it
