Desperate! Please help!! Oscar or Louis?

See the results of this poll: Which is the most classic & least trendy? Oscar or Louis?

Respondents: 78 (This poll is closed)

  • Oscar : 42 (54%)
  • Louis: 36 (46%)

I would say [name_m]Louis[/name_m] is less “trendy” than [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], although I prefer [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] as a name. [name_m]Louis[/name_m] may start getting way more popular given the new royal baby.

Out of your two options I went [name_m]Louis[/name_m] but I don’t think either go -

[name_m]Wesley[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Donovan[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Harrison[/name_m]
[name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Kenneth[/name_m] ([name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_m]Kenny[/name_m] are cute nicknames together)
[name_m]Warren[/name_m]
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m]
[name_m]Davis[/name_m]
[name_u]Keaton[/name_u]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m]
[name_u]Douglas[/name_u]
[name_m]Harry[/name_m]
[name_u]Stanley[/name_u]
[name_m]Franklin[/name_m]

Tough one!!

I like both but I went with [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] in the end. I’ve only met one [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] in the last few years but I’ve heard several people with kids called [name_m]Louis[/name_m] recently

Thank you for your feedback. I’m just curious to know which country you’re based in? If you don’t mind me asking, of course.

Unfortunately, here in Australia, I’ve been hearing lots of little Oscars being called when out & about. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not sure if [name_m]Louis[/name_m] will now follow suit with the recent arrival of the [name_m]Prince[/name_m]

Which name sounds best with your surname? I chose [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] together are adorable. However, [name_m]Louis[/name_m] would be just as nice with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. Hard decision!

I prefer [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] as I like the thought of having a less used name also. But then I live in [name_f]France[/name_f] where [name_m]Louis[/name_m] is more popular than [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]… Also as mentioned in the other post, I would shy away from [name_m]Louis[/name_m] as it is the name of the new royal baby.

Also… I really mean it: my second boy (aged 2) is an [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]! But it’s pretty rare over here!

I’m in the UK so maybe it’s a little different. [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] is actually statistically more popular, so it might just be my area that’s full of Louiss

Thank you so much for your reply

If only the naming trends in your area of the U.K. were more like where I’m living! Here there seems to be an abundance of little Oscars. I know that popularity shouldn’t matter so much if you really love a name but I can’t help but feel a little hesitant now about using it.

That’s a good question! But unfortunately I think that both names pair just as well with our surname, just to make the choice even harder for us. LOL

What a terrific choice! And I bet your little [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] is absolutely adorable to match his name  It’s a bonus that there aren’t too many other Oscars around!!!

With the new royal baby, [name_m]Louis[/name_m] will surely be on the rise. (A la [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]). I know a handful, but [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] feels much less common.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there babymakesthree,

Thank you kindly for your insight and for your experiences with both names. As with a previous poster, could I please ask which country you’re based?

Statistics seem to be quite different here in Australia (or my area, at least) where I’m finding the opposite with recent naming trends and bumping into way more little Oscars of late.

Hard to believe, but I’m yet to meet a little [name_m]Louis[/name_m] in my area and that definitely adds to the appeal of the name for me

Thank you for your suggestions. There are some lovely choices here. I just don’t want to add more to the mix again. DH is already frustrated enough about my indecisiveness! LOL x

I voted for [name_m]Louis[/name_m]. As a teacher, there are so many Oscars where I’m based ([name_u]Sydney[/name_u]). [name_m]Louis[/name_m] would stand out more as does [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. The only thing is you will probably get ‘oh [name_m]Louis[/name_m] like the royal name’ quite a bit!

I chose [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]. [name_m]Louis[/name_m] was also a great choice but since you don’t like overly trendy and [name_m]Louis[/name_m] is definitely at tisk for a trend surge currently, [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] seemed the better choice.

Hey hey! It’s so great to hear the viewpoint of a fellow Aussie  Thank you for your vote & for your response. I know I said previously that I didn’t want new options, but would there be any underused classics that you could suggest which aren’t too popular at the moment in your classroom?

Thanks again. Have a wonderful weekend! x

Thank you  It’s a tricky one! The [name_u]Poll[/name_u] results are pretty much even at the moment. I’m so unsure about which way to go. [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] is the more popular name out of the two where I live and as I said, I’m yet to meet a [name_m]Louis[/name_m]. But as you mentioned, I’m afraid the royal [name_m]Louis[/name_m] will bring about a sudden rise in the name. sigh

I know they’re both great names & either one will be fine, but I’m not a name nerd for nothing!! Haha :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been thinking about your post, and as an American, I favor [name_m]Louis[/name_m]. (I had previously voted for [name_m]Oscar[/name_m].)
I see it as a fresh, “new” royal name that has its old-fashioned charm and history, and can be used on a little boy as well as an older gentleman.
