I’m pregnant with my third boy, and recently had a complication that means I’ll be delivering six weeks early… so now I need to find a name by [name_u]January[/name_u]!
I’m a lifelong Nameberry-aholic, my criteria is for it to not be common (preferably outside of the top 300). Our last name is lengthy three syllables, starts with R and ends with -er, which knocks out -er names sadly.
I’m looking for a name that flows with theirs with really good nickname options (probably not a B or R name). [name_f]My[/name_f] top names at the moment are:
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] (love the idea of Shep/Sheppy… husband doesn’t like)
[name_u]Whitley[/name_u] (love the idea of [name_u]Whit[/name_u], compromising with hubby because I liked Whitney)
[name_m]Hart[/name_m] (I adore, but since we’re nickname people I’m worried everyone will add something to a one syllable name)
I feel like all I do in my spare time is scroll Nameberry and TikTok naming accounts and I’ve exhausted every name in the world, and now that I have a time crunch I am getting even more stressed!! I know I’m in good hands here, because you guys are my fellow name-obsessed people. Thank you so much for your help!!!
The first names that come to mind are [name_u]Winslow[/name_u] and [name_m]Whitten[/name_m] or Whitlock “Winnie/Wit” for nicknames. That way you get similar to Whitley/Whitney.
Other Suggestions:
Alwyn/Alwin “Al, Winnie”
[name_m]Murdoch[/name_m] “Doc”
[name_m]Phineas[/name_m] “Fin”
[name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] “Morty, Kai”
[name_m]Derrick[/name_m] “Rick/Ricky” (it was #298 last year, just FYI)
[name_m]Linwood[/name_m] “Linny” “Lin” “Woody”
[name_u]Callahan[/name_u] “Cal”
[name_m]Halloran[/name_m] “Hal”
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]: love this with your boys! Too bad your husband isn’t on board…do you think you could bring him round or is it a hard no?
[name_u]Whitley[/name_u]: I actually know someone who just named their baby this. Can’t say I love it, but [name_u]Whit[/name_u] is a great nickname. Maybe for [name_m]Whittaker[/name_m], [name_m]Whitford[/name_m], [name_m]Whitman[/name_m], [name_m]Whitten[/name_m], Whitby, or Whitfield, [name_m]Hewitt[/name_m]?
[name_m]Hart[/name_m]: also a favorite of mine, and I think it fits really well. Could you use it as a nickname? For [name_u]Hartley[/name_u], [name_u]Hartford[/name_u], [name_m]Everhart[/name_m], Hartfield, [name_m]Hartwell[/name_m], or Lockhart?
Thank you!!! I’m definitely going to work on [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] with him! haha
That’s great to know about Whitley… I feel on the fence, I love [name_u]Whitney[/name_u] for a boy but my husband didn’t so this was kind of the compromise, but I love [name_m]Whitten[/name_m] too! I should put that in the mix!
Lockhart for [name_m]Hart[/name_m]! I hadn’t thought of that! I wish I loved [name_u]Hartley[/name_u] but I just can’t get into it.
[name_m]Macklin[/name_m] is on my list too! We are one the same wavelength! Thank you for all of these!!!
Thank you!!! He was tough to name too, but I LOVED [name_u]Bowen[/name_u]. [name_m]Dominick[/name_m] has been on my list!! I should rethink that one. And [name_u]Campbell[/name_u] was my top for a girl!!!
I love your naming style. You could use [name_u]Hartley[/name_u]. You would still have your 2 syllables and his nickname could be [name_m]Hart[/name_m]. I adore [name_m]Shepard[/name_m] and [name_u]Whitley[/name_u]. They both flow well with siblings. You could take them to the delivery and then decide.
Other suggestions:
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], [name_u]Bowen[/name_u] and
Thank you!!! I have been trying to make myself love [name_u]Hartley[/name_u] – it solves all my problems! But I’m just not sure I love it. We are definitely on the same wavelength – [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] and [name_u]Callahan[/name_u] are the next two on my list. LOVE [name_m]Henning[/name_m], haven’t seen that one anywhere!
