Desperately need your help naming this baby!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries,
First I wanted to thank those of you who have offered an opinion (or voted) on names I’ve posted recently. We still have not decided on a name for our little one, and time is really ticking now!

As a final desperate attempt to make a decision about this, I thought I would hand it over to you all. Most of you have far more knowledge of names than me!

So, the challenge, should you wish to accept, is to suggest any name that suits our middle(s) and sort of fits in with her brother [name_u]Rex[/name_u] (although it’s not a huge deal for us if it’s a different style)

Here are some names that we like a lot BUT we have decided are not for us for one reason or another ([name_f]Rosetta[/name_f], [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f], [name_f]Ariana[/name_f], [name_f]Aria[/name_f], [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], [name_f]Arielle[/name_f], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f])

Here are some names which are still up for consideration but either myself or my OH has some kind of minor issue with:
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f] (pronunciation problem - we live in N. [name_u]America[/name_u] and lots of people say av-uh-[name_f]LINE[/name_f])
Avelina (sounds like the Javelina piggy?!! Is this a really big deal?)
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] (my OH feels it’s a bit too frilly or in his words “over the top”)
[name_f]Aurielle[/name_f] or [name_f]Auriel[/name_f] (I love this one but OH thinks it could be too weird or hard for others to pronounce? He also says Oreo cookie at me!)
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f] (I like this a lot - but will people just think we should have gone with the more usual [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] which is also a lovely name, but is very popular where we live.)
[name_f]Ailana[/name_f] (I came across this recently, but OH is not convinced. I believe it is both Finnish and From [name_m]Hawaii[/name_m]?)

Middle names will be [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendoline[/name_f] ([name_f]Gwendoline[/name_f] is to honor a family member, [name_f]Freya[/name_f] I think is beautiful)

If I had to describe our style I suppose it is mythological/artsy/vintage/nature. I don’t mind names from other cultures at all, but they need to be pronounceable to most [name_u]North[/name_u] Americans/English speakers.

What would you suggest for us? Any suggestions greatly appreciated
Thank you so much!

I’m not an expert on your style of names. I like [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwendoline[/name_f]. The only suggestion I have is [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].

[name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_f]Freya[/name_f] would be an amazing sibset!

Why not use [name_f]Freya[/name_f] in the first name spot if you both love it?
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendoline[/name_f] [name_f]Aurielle[/name_f] is my suggestion!

Agree with halfkoreangirl, [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendoline[/name_f] [name_f]Aurielle[/name_f] would be nice. I’m not crazy about your FN choices tbqh, they just seem flighty and lacking in substance. I think I had voted for [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] and [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] in your other posts but I see those are out.

Thanks for the comments so far, yes [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is a really lovely name. I think we weren’t sure about the Fr- sound to use it for a first name but I will discuss it again with OH.

The names I’ve listed above are just some ideas (I.e. Avelina, [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Evelina[/name_f], [name_f]Aurielle[/name_f]…) but we are very open to any new suggestions, just looking for some new names really. Thanks

I adore your son’s name - so great! I agree with the previous posters that [name_f]Freya[/name_f] seems pretty perfect. i think you should definitely consider it as a first name.
Of your options I really like [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] the best. i know an [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] who boes by [name_f]Evy[/name_f] (pronounced like eh-vee) and it’s super cute. I also like [name_f]Arabella[/name_f]. I think the [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] balance [name_u]Rex[/name_u] nicely.
Here are some other thoughts (you seem to like vowels, v’s and longer names):
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Adalyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f]
[name_f]Alessandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanora[/name_f]
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]

[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]: I’ve always instinctively pronounced this the way you want it to be pronounced, but I can see why pronunciation can be a concern. Still, it looks like you keep coming back to it, so if you really love a name, then a simple “Oh, it’s av-uh-leen” isn’t that hard to deal with!
Avelina: I mean, as someone who is very into animals, I know what a Javelina is, but I don’t think the general public really is familiar with that type of animal. Also, I didn’t make the connection myself even knowing what it is. However, I still prefer [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] to this. Something is beautiful about [name_f]Aveline[/name_f]'s simplicity.
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]: It is VERY frilly, but cute.
[name_f]Aurielle[/name_f] or [name_f]Auriel[/name_f]: Now that you mention it, it DOES sound a lot like Oreo when you say it aloud. My first thought was some sort of trendy version of [name_f]Arielle[/name_f]/[name_u]Ariel[/name_u]. Not a big fan of the aur- sound. It makes me think of oral.
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f]: No, this one is great! In contrast to Avelina (which is a tad more out there), this one is frilly but it can still work perfectly and not sound too childish.
[name_f]Ailana[/name_f]: Very pretty sounds. I like it. I’m being a little bit of a hypocrite, I guess, because it also kind of sounds like a trendy version of [name_f]Alana[/name_f]… but the sounds in this are much more elegant than [name_f]Aurielle[/name_f]

My favorite of your selections still under consideration is [name_f]Evelina[/name_f]. I think the pronunciation is intuitive and it definitely fit the sound pattern you seem attracted to. Have you noticed you really like smooth, feminine girls’ names? Lots of Ls, Rs and Ns.

My main hesitation with actually using [name_f]Evelina[/name_f], though, is that it’s too repetitive with [name_f]Gwendoline[/name_f]. [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] would be even worse.

What do you think of [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] or [name_f]Elara[/name_f]? [name_f]Elara[/name_f] is a mythological name with a lovely, smooth sound and I think a shorter name would fit well with [name_u]Rex[/name_u]. [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] is Hebrew meaning “my light,” or “God is my light,” which has a very nice sound and uplifting meaning.

Thanks to everyone who has commented so far, I think you’ve made some really good points.
@blade, thanks for your two suggestions, I like both [name_f]Elara[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliora[/name_f]. Unfortunately we live near a town called one of those names. I’m not too keen on the authentic pronunciation of [name_f]Elara[/name_f] either, but definitely the right type/style of name.
I agree with most of you who have said that [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is probably the most usable of all my options. I’m drawn to [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] but worried she’ll spend her whole life correcting pronunciation.
If anyone else has further suggestions I’d love to hear them. Thanks again

Out of your names I also prefer [name_f]Evelina[/name_f].

Further suggestions:
[name_f]Emmaline[/name_f]
Belanna

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendoline[/name_f] is a great combo.

I think that with the name [name_u]Rex[/name_u], a latin-based name would be ideal. Also, one that has as much presence as [name_u]Rex[/name_u], so a name that looks like a root, without frilly endings like “line” or “elle”. Names like [name_f]Aveline[/name_f], [name_f]Aurielle[/name_f], [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] and [name_f]Ailana[/name_f] don’t have that clean cut style that [name_u]Rex[/name_u] does. They aren’t classic names like [name_u]Rex[/name_u] either.

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Clio[/name_f]
[name_f]Athena[/name_f]
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] ([name_u]LEE[/name_u]-nah or [name_m]LAY[/name_m]-nah would both be very nice with [name_u]Rex[/name_u].
[name_f]Raina[/name_f]
[name_f]Sara[/name_f]

I also [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] forba first name. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendoline[/name_f] is perfect.
Otherwise…

[name_f]Avalon[/name_f]
[name_f]Liliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Arielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Acacia[/name_f]

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] are my favorites. I think [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is lovely with easy pronunciation and doesn’t strike me as a “weird form of [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]” at all. I agree, though, that [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwendoline[/name_f] are a bit sing-songy.

If you love [name_f]Aveline[/name_f], I wouldn’t worry about her needing to correct pronunciations. As someone who’s spent the better part of my life correcting the pronunciation of my name (which is [name_f]Joelle[/name_f]…which seems intuitive to me, but I’ve gotten every name starting with Juh- you can think of!) it’s really not that big of a deal. Though it was a lot easier when I decided not to bother correcting substitute teachers and people I’d only see once.

What about [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]? I would pronounce it [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-leen and I am in the US. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] alot. What about:

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
Faedra/[name_f]Phaedra[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]

I was thinking this too. [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and [name_f]Freya[/name_f] together sound awesome! [name_f]Freya[/name_f] would be my number once pick out of the names you’ve listed, no question.

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Anais[/name_f]
[name_f]Margo[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Lilith[/name_f]
[name_f]Talullah[/name_f]
[name_f]Thera[/name_f]
[name_f]Lula[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] is a lovely name that checks off each of the descriptions you’re looking for

What about [name_f]Avalon[/name_f]? Its a romantic name that won’t have the pronunciation problems of [name_f]Aveline[/name_f]. [name_f]Avia[/name_f] is another nice alternative.

Good luck on your hunt for the perfect name!

Thanks for all the helpful advice. I love [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] - I think it is perfect but my husband is not on board with that one unfortunately! I really love [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] but a friend has named her daughter that.
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] is a beautiful name. I am somewhat put off choosing it as a first name though because although we live in N. [name_u]America[/name_u] we are European, so in our home country it is a top name. It doesn’t mean it’s not lovely though. We definitely want it as her middle name.

I love the [name_m]French[/name_m] name [name_f]Allaire[/name_f], which is an old form of [name_u]Hilary[/name_u]. Modern forms include [name_f]Ilaria[/name_f] (Italian), which is similar in sound and feel to other names you like.

Also, [name_f]Adara[/name_f] (ah-DARE-uh)
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_u]Averill[/name_u]
[name_f]Althea[/name_f]
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f] (an old honorific of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] I, refering to her as the splendid [name_f]Dawn[/name_f])
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucilla[/name_f]

[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
([name_m]Ott[/name_m]-il-ee or OH-tilly) I prefer the first pronunciation.
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f]
