Desperately needing some guidance, please! 6 days and counting!

I am starting to hope that this baby is a girl, not because I want a girl more than a boy but because our girl name is set. Our boy name however, isn’t, at all. We have nothing. Any names we’ve liked in the past sound wrong and boring. My sister’s suggestion was to wait a week and then start thinking about it again, our baby is due in 6 days… I literally cannot wait any longer.

I am seriously hoping that if we do get a boy on delivery day, his name will just come to me. But knowing myself, it wont. I think Bugsy was a one hit wonder! I am a perfectionist and like to carefully consider everything…but there is no time to carefully consider and I am so completely worried that we will choose a name I will regret and it will impact my bonding with baby!

I don’t even know what to ask, honestly I’m just over it, being pregnant and thinking constantly about names… our list on the fridge has so many crosses it’s getting ridiculous.

On a positive note I think his middle name will be [name]Richmond[/name]. I went trawling through the family tree and found that it was my great-grandmothers baby brother who died during infancy, he was named after the doctor who delivered him. I like it, it interesting but not unheard of

Hmmm… so have you got any suggestions that work with [name]Richmond[/name] as a middle name and with Bugsy as a big brother? I’ll take whatever you can give me!

Oh, and for those who have been following my dead end naming saga, [name]Marlon[/name] is completely out sadly. A girl at work just had a [name]Marvin[/name] 2 days ago, she named him after her father. I never mentioned [name]Marlon[/name] as my favourite name so I can’t say she “stole a [name]Mar[/name]- name”. We have worked together for 4 years and become quite good friends. I just couldn’t do it to her, I know I’d hate it if someone did that to me, it would make my baby’s nameless special or something! Maybe in a few years I’ll get a little boy to name [name]Marlon[/name]!

Hopefully you can help, I am getting extremely anxious and irrational, it’s safe to say today has not been a happy day, this baby wont stop thumping, I think it will be slightly less than 6 days till we meet him or her!

[name]Lila[/name]

I feel for you! Has anyone suggested yet that you make a short list of names you like -even if you don’t love them -to take to the hospital? Maybe one of those will stand out to you on his birth day.
I put Bugsy, [name]Marlon[/name] & [name]Richmond[/name] into nymbler.com and here’s what came up:
[name]Roderick[/name]
[name]Vinson[/name] (I prefer [name]Vincent[/name], [name]Vincent[/name] [name]Richmond[/name] is stunning, though not sure it goes with Bugsy)
[name]Burke[/name]
[name]Lamont[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]Keenan[/name]
[name]Kirby[/name]
… There’s more, but you can check the site too.
I was thinking something like [name]Jedidiah[/name], nn [name]Jed[/name]. Bugsy and [name]Jed[/name] would be cute together.

Oh no! That’s no good is it… and [name]Marlon[/name] was perfect too!

Bugsy is such a fantastically weird and specific name finding something along those lines is a tad difficult! But I’ve been saying Bugsy and - while flipping through some stuff, and here are the ones I think fit:

[name]Alban[/name]/[name]Albus[/name]
[name]Brett[/name]
[name]Caspian[/name]
[name]Cecil[/name]
[name]Chase[/name]

[name]Puck[/name]
[name]Rio[/name]
[name]Rory[/name]
[name]Rufus[/name]
[name]Sol[/name]
[name]Todd[/name]
[name]Wade[/name]

I’m sorry to read about your naming challenges, and definitely sympathize (we’re also having a tough time solidifying our boy name choice).
Here’s some names that may go well with Bugsy (Too bad [name]Marlon[/name] can’t work, that’d really be perfect. I’d suggest you ask your friend if she would really be bothered by it. It is quite hard to find something that works perfectly with Bugsy, which is great by the way.)
[name]Zane[/name]
[name]Emrys[/name]
[name]Ezio[/name]
Evren
[name]Larkin[/name]
[name]Boaz[/name]
[name]Calix[/name]
[name]Clyde[/name]
[name]Desmond[/name]
[name]Celio[/name]
[name]Vito[/name]
[name]Alton[/name]
[name]Asa[/name]
[name]Cadoc[/name]
[name]Eamon[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name]
[name]Rhett[/name]
[name]Roscoe[/name]
Straun

I totally think you should use [name]Marlon[/name] - it’s not at all the same as [name]Marvin[/name]!

What about [name]Chauncey[/name]? I think it sounds rather jovial which is how I see Bugsy. [name]Chauncey[/name] [name]Richmond[/name] has a nice ring to it.

Suggestions:

[name]Harlan[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Ryder[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Chase[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Wyatt[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Wylie[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
Zorro [name]Richmond[/name]

[name]Hi[/name] goldielocks

I’ve been reading about your story here and at other places like Waltzing More Than [name]Matilda[/name].

I think Bugsy has a fantastic name and I understand finding something as unique as his.

I don’t know what you should do but here are a couple of names that I think are awesome with Bugsy…

[name]Clancy[/name]
[name]Banjo[/name]
[name]Jed[/name] or [name]Ned[/name]

That’s all I’ve got. Can’t wait to hear what you end up choosing!

Thank’s for your help! I’m still not drawn to anything much.
I’ll narrow it down for you a little, I want a name that’s down to earth, but also a little preppy? Nothing too abstract, I want to move away from the quirkiness of Bugsy!
I kind of like the suggestion of [name]Ned[/name], random I know! But [name]Ned[/name] [name]Richmond[/name] doesn’t flow great… What do you think? I also met a little boy named [name]Jem[/name] the other day which I thought was kind of interesting…
Anyway, no movement at the station just yet, thankfully, I need a few more days!
[name]Lila[/name]

I think [name]Ned[/name] [name]Richmond[/name] flows just fine and sounds nice.

some more ideas:
[name]Hayes[/name]
[name]Blaine[/name]
[name]Knox[/name]
[name]Crew[/name]
[name]Gray[/name]
[name]Piers[/name]
[name]Darby[/name]
[name]Monroe[/name]
[name]Kit[/name]

I really like [name]Ned[/name] [name]Richmond[/name] together. It sounds quite strong.

[name]Don[/name]'t worry too much about the flow of the first and middle name. More importantly is the flow of the first and last name. If [name]Ned[/name] sounds good with your last name - go for it.

[name]Harvey[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Tripp[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Darius[/name] [name]Richmond[/name] (Knew one growing up, he went by Dars)
[name]Dax[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Hobbs[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Darby[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Felix[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Orion[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Cedric[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Bram[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Van[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Walter[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Darren[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Watson[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Sid[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]

Firstly, I just want to say what a fantastic name Bugsy [name]William[/name] is! You need distinctive with a little touch of cool.
My suggestions are -
[name]Reeve[/name] ( I know it doesn’t flow well with [name]Richmond[/name]) but I think it fits the criteria!
[name]Ignatius[/name] ([name]Iggy[/name]) [name]Richmond[/name] (Bugsy and [name]Iggy[/name] sound cute as a sibset, plus you get distinctive with cool!)
[name]Blaise[/name]/[name]Blaize[/name] [name]Richmond[/name] (not sure what your position is on having same letter siblings)
[name]Jaren[/name] [name]Richmond[/name] (I prn like J then aaron, but other prn could be J then erin - my son’s name and I haven’t met another yet)
[name]Sullivan[/name] ([name]Sully[/name] or [name]Van[/name]) [name]Richmond[/name] (Bugsy and [name]Sully[/name]/[name]Van[/name] work well together as a sibset, imo)
Have fun deciding on a name for your little one!

I apologize for not having much to add, but I am just so curious about your first son’s name! Bugsy is such an interesting name. When I first noticed it in your signature (on previous threads,) I thought it was a nickname. Now that I know it’s his real name, I’m fascinated to know more about it. What is the history behind Bugsy? Sorry to ask in this thread, but I’d just love to know if you have time to respond.

For what it’s worth, I really like the mn [name]Richmond[/name] and am loving pp’s suggestion of [name]Ignatius[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]!

No problem! I have explained this story once or twice

Bugsy was named by my husband. He fell in love with the name when he was 11, quite unusual for a boy especially one like my husband. He used to watch the movie Bugsy [name]Malone[/name] with his father and grandfather, and just genuinely liked it. The fact that [name]Jack[/name] felt so strongly about the name won me over for it to be a middle name, so our baby was going to be [name]William[/name] Bugsy.
[name]Jack[/name] called my belly Bug for all of my pregnancy, but I was sticking to my guns… We were not having a son named Bugsy! However, the moment our baby was born [name]Jack[/name] called him Bugsy, not [name]William[/name], and in that moment I knew that we couldn’t go back. I guess in the end Bugsy had all the qualities I was looking for, significance and meaning.

I often think maybe we made the wrong choice, I mean I get some interesting looks from people, especially when he was a tiny baby. [name]One[/name] day when Bugsy was about 3 weeks old I was at the park with my sister in law and the a lady asked what my baby’s name was, I said “Oh this is Bugsy” her response, “Are you joking!?”, I said “No that is his given name”, and she looked at him and said “Poor little baby!”. But my feelings of doubt are always shot down when I hear of yet another baby named [name]William[/name], I am just so pleased that our son has such an original and well loved name! Plus the feedback on here has been fabulous!

He suits his name to a tee, he’s adventurous and loud and crazy, and incredibly cheeky! All the qualities that a boy named Bugsy should be in my mind

To everyone else, thanks for the continued suggestions. I find [name]Ignatius[/name] rather interesting! [name]Love[/name] [name]Iggy[/name], but like [name]Ziggy[/name] even more…could [name]Ziggy[/name] work?

Thanks again, sorry for the ramble!
[name]Lila[/name]

[name]Noah[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]?
[name]Alfie[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]?
[name]Brody[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]?
[name]Gregor[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]?
[name]Emmet[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]?
[name]Zachariah[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]?
[name]Chase[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]?
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]?

-------------------------------- Good luck

What about [name]Niall[/name]? It’s reminiscent of [name]Ned[/name], but works better with [name]Richmond[/name].

Thanks for the story! I just love that his name has significance. Yes, Bugsy will raise eyebrows, but it’s so great to have a name that is meaningful and unique! You should be proud of taking a risk for something you (and hubby) love.

Sending good vibes your way! Here are some names that will hopefully help (that also sound particularly nice with Bugsy):

[name]Atticus[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Jack[/name] [name]Richmond[/name] (maybe after DH?)
[name]Otto[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Marco[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]
[name]Cyrus[/name] [name]Richmond[/name]

I feel like you need something equally spunky and unique as Bugsy, which is hard because Bugsy is one of a kind. [name]Do[/name] you have a particular name that is special to you like Bugsy was to your husband?

I think [name]Ziggy[/name] could definitely work for you! I think it would stand on its own, or as a nn for [name]Ignatius[/name]. If you love [name]Ziggy[/name], go for it! Bugsy and [name]Ziggy[/name] are definitely cute together. Same style and you are not afraid to take a risk!
