Desperately seeking perfect name

We have had a beautiful much wanted girl, she’s already 3 weeks old but with no official name as yet. She has two brothers, [name_m]Christian[/name_m] and [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], so we want something equally melodic, strong yet feminine and universal. We love European names (tho we are australian) that have some history.

These are our favs, though random and not all fit the criteria. I am big fan of the vowel-heavy names.

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - sadly too popular but worthy of it
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]/ [name_f]Alessandra[/name_f]
[name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] - bit heavy but delightfully eccentric
[name_f]Anais[/name_f] - pretty but bit 80s
[name_f]Martha[/name_f] - DH’s absolute favourite
[name_f]Noa[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] - not loving [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] for nn
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Maple[/name_f]
[name_f]Henriette[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - again way too popular but feels lovely to say.

Unfortunately it has become an over thought, much pressured issue, I just want to say her name and move on. Oh but it must also be perfect!!!

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter and welcome to nameberry!

I really like [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Christian[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] and:

[name_f]Araminta[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleonora[/name_f]
[name_f]Miranda[/name_f]
[name_f]Violetta[/name_f]

Congratulations! I love [name_u]Winter[/name_u] but it doesn’t have that European feel you are looking for.

What about [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]? Nn [name_f]Aria[/name_f].

Good luck!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Noa[/name_f], [name_f]Henriette[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f].

[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_u]Meredith[/name_u]
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]

Oh these are even more beautiful names to consider, thank you…

I have such a sweet spot for [name_u]Winter[/name_u], it will likely go as mn. As it feels a bit too serious for her.

Others I love are [name_f]Violetta[/name_f], [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_u]Luce[/name_u] , [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cosima[/name_f].

I’m torn between names that would actually suit her that I don’t necessarily love and names that I love. She could be a [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] or a [name_f]Bridget[/name_f]. This is the problem with leaving it so long.

There are just so many beautiful girls names. DH is getting frustrated, understandably, though he stands firm on [name_f]Martha[/name_f] which I like very much (just have had some unpleasant experiences with a [name_f]Martha[/name_f] which has tainted my love for the name).

Might be easier to hand the decision over but its too personal to give over…

[name_m]Christian[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] & [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
[name_m]Christian[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] & [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]

[name_m]Both[/name_m] of these are great choices. Here are two more I’m going to offer up that exude the same essence to me. I think that this style of name also fits very well with her brothers.

[name_m]Christian[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] & Thaissa
[name_m]Christian[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] & [name_f]Araminta[/name_f]

I agree about [name_f]Martha[/name_f] / [name_f]Marta[/name_f]. There is also the variation [name_f]Maarya[/name_f]

Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m] and Congratulations

I really like [name_f]Martha[/name_f]/[name_f]Marta[/name_f]. I also [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]!
These are some gentle (and not so gentle) vowel heavy names, [name_m]How[/name_m] about:
[name_f]Evelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Leora[/name_f]
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f]
[name_f]Acacia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Melanie[/name_f]
Melara
[name_f]Elora[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] / [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] / [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] (similar to [name_u]Luce[/name_u])
[name_f]Thalia[/name_f] / [name_f]Talia[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] / [name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Cadence[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]

I also like: [name_f]Violetta[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Bridget[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]! [name_f]Paloma[/name_f]'s also lovely. [name_f]Noa[/name_f] sounds pretty (noh-ah), but it’s very Israeli - not really the European thing you’re going for. If [name_u]Issy[/name_u]/[name_u]Izzy[/name_u] is what’s putting you off of [name_f]Isadora[/name_f], how about [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]? With [name_m]Christian[/name_m] and [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], you need something strong, powerful, artistic and regal; perhaps Italian. The first thing I thought of was [name_f]Ismene[/name_f]; Greek and quite lovely, without the immediate shortening of [name_u]Issy[/name_u]/[name_u]Izzy[/name_u] (I’ve seen [name_f]Ismay[/name_f] or just [name_f]May[/name_f] as nicknames).

[name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiorella[/name_f]
[name_f]Catarina[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Phaedra[/name_f]
[name_f]Odessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Venus[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f]
[name_f]Antigone[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphina[/name_f]
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiammetta[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
[name_f]Alethea[/name_f]

[name_m]Both[/name_m] my daughters names are on your list as well as names we have on our list for our 3rd daughter. I also like violetta and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] with your sibset. [name_f]Martha[/name_f] is a really nice name. If your husband feels very strongly about one name and u feel love for many names maybe its better to let him have this one?

I like a lot of names on your list, here is a few more to consider:

[name_f]Annalise[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybella[/name_f]
[name_f]Noelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f]
[name_f]Gizelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] (nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_f]Nora[/name_f])
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariana[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f]
[name_f]Isaline[/name_f]
[name_f]Cosette[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Rory[/name_u]?)
[name_f]Roxana[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmaline[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Iseult[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_f]Carina[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Tahlia[/name_f]
[name_f]Thisbe[/name_f] (nn Isby)
Tahti (means “star” in Finnish)
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]

All very good points, am trying v hard to make peace with [name_f]Martha[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Marta[/name_f] too but fear she will get [name_u]Marty[/name_u] as nn which I detest.

Being Australian, it’s inevitable any name will be abbreviated to one syllable and added either ‘ie’ or ‘o’ on the end unfortunately.

Have flirted with [name_f]Araminta[/name_f] but DH not at all keen.

Her name doesn’t necessarily need to be European, I just prefer names that are familiar across cultures. I do [name_u]Love[/name_u] french, Italian and Scandi names.

Merylp - sounds like we have some similar tastes, any suggestions?

[name_f]Kisa[/name_f] - I loooove [name_f]Sybella[/name_f], [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] ([name_u]Rory[/name_u]) and [name_f]Iseult[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] mother is Scottish so she adores [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] head is spinning with all these choices.

[name_m]Raphael[/name_m] and [name_m]Christian[/name_m] are beautiful names!
[name_f]My[/name_f] suggestions:
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Angelica[/name_f]
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]/[name_f]Serafina[/name_f]
[name_f]Zara[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariana[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicia[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Miranda[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliora[/name_f]/[name_f]Leora[/name_f]
[name_f]Liora[/name_f]/[name_f]Leora[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]
[name_f]Xaviera[/name_f]
[name_f]Liliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Luisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Mireille[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]

What about [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] as a double mn (although it would cut out a lot of names ending in -a as a fn? I don’t think [name_f]Martha[/name_f] really fits well with [name_m]Christian[/name_m] and [name_m]Raphael[/name_m].

Some possibilities:

[name_m]Christian[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], and

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Anais[/name_f]/Annaelise [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Lenore[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Thais[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]

[name_f]My[/name_f] fave of your options are [name_f]Paloma[/name_f], [name_f]Alessandra[/name_f] and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f].

[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]- I would pass on because I don’t think it feels as classic as [name_m]Christian[/name_m] and [name_m]Raphael[/name_m].
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f]- I love especially with the nicknames [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and [name_f]Thea[/name_f]/[name_f]Theia[/name_f]
[name_f]Alessandra[/name_f]- This is my favorite because it is pretty and feminine and seems heavy and classic.

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] I also love but I already have 2 of them in my neighbourhood so it is safe to say this name is out of use for me.

Maybe [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]? It is long and classic and is full of nicknames to suit whatever personality she has. Nicknames like [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Meg[/name_f], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Margo[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f] etc…

I think [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] would be a lovely choice w/your sibset, as it means ‘dove’. [name_f]Alessandra[/name_f] is beyond gorgeous, and have you considered a combo like [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]-[name_f]Grace[/name_f] to make it more distinctive? I sincerely pray you find something besides [name_f]Martha[/name_f].

[name_u]Love[/name_u] love love [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] for mns as we planned on double. Thank you.

Also like [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f], [name_f]Una[/name_f], Pelopia all bit left of centre but quirky and sweet or too out there.

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Sybella[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Isabeau[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Maple[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]

Last name ends with a Y to break up all those ‘a’ endings.

Ha, my mother’s name is [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], I love all the diminutives - [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Meg[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Maisy[/name_f] etc. also like [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f].

I looove [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] and I think it sounds lovely with your sons’ names. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you feel about the nickname [name_u]Dory[/name_u] instead of [name_u]Izzy[/name_u]?

Some other names (probably a few repeats):
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Alouette[/name_f]
[name_f]Cosette[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] daughters are [name_f]Lila[/name_f] ([name_f]Leelah[/name_f]) [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] and [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] J@nuary Jewe!!. For our baby girl due in [name_f]May[/name_f] this is our list

[name_u]Echo[/name_u]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]- DH thinks its too complicated
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Safira[/name_f]/ Sefira- I think it’s too much like [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] which is sooooo over used where we live.
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]

Names that are off our list because friends have used them, but I like for you
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Priya[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Anais[/name_f]- this has been on my list for over 6 years but DH can’t get behind

I get the whole nickname thing. I don’t really like nicknames maybe its because I have a short name? This is one of the reasons we are so on the fence with [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]. When it came to naming our son, I really loved 3 names and they changed through out my pregnancy. However my husband was really into one name I liked it but it wasn’t my favorite. I let him have his choice for my sons name and I have never regretted it. I guess I just thought if he had such a preference I should step aside on that one. He also let me have way more of a day on our 3 rd child’s name. Good luck!

Merylp - you have some really beautiful names.

Funnily enough we refer to our daughter as ‘[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]’ as during an ultrasound she was flapping around like a little bird but don’t have the courage to formally name her that.

I too have always loved [name_f]Anais[/name_f] but DH not at all keen and feels there would be pronunciation issues.

[name_f]Paloma[/name_f] is very tempting as its so soft and well rounded but still strong.

If DH had another favourite other than [name_f]Martha[/name_f], I would happily hand it over to him, it also doesn’t sit well with our surname.

Our neighbours have a [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Delphi[/name_f]’, she is exquisite.

[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Clemence[/name_f] are also favs but fear of [name_u]Clem[/name_u] as nn is big turn off.

I need to be brutal and short list as the list is just growing making it even harder. Am confident [name_u]Winter[/name_u] will at least be mn.

Thank you for your suggestions, they are all appealing.
