[name_f]Every[/name_f] time we think we feel somewhat settled on a top 1-3 names, we encounter something that makes us rethink them. We thought we were pretty settled on [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] [name_m]Dale[/name_m], and we are still considering it, but neither of us loves [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] and that makes us hesitant. I’m considering [name_m]Linus[/name_m] again but still unsure how I like the way it sounds in our hick-y twang accent.
[name_m]Dewey[/name_m] is one I’ve pitched to my husband before and he wasn’t a fan but is now considering. I love the meaning “beloved” and its apparent connection to the name [name_m]David[/name_m] (my husband’s name). I don’t think the [name_m]Dewey[/name_m] Decimal System association is a bad thing. If anything I hope our kids are known to be bookish in this day and age. ![]()
What is the consensus on just [name_m]Dewey[/name_m] as a first name? Does it sound like you’re talking about dew on grass or something? Or just like a vintage name?
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] is another we’ve come back to a lot but still don’t know if it feels right to us. My husband likes [name_m]Albert[/name_m] now, which would be somewhat of an honor name, but I don’t know how I feel about a middle-aged [name_m]Albert[/name_m]. On a baby and older man I can see it. 30-something-year-old I don’t know. I have some very strong associations with several Albert’s from my life, maybe that’s why.
I have grown to love the nickname [name_m]Bertie[/name_m], though, which I previously wasn’t big on. My husband is still not keen on [name_m]Wilbert[/name_m] or [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m], which I prefer the flow of over [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] or [name_m]Albert[/name_m]. [name_f]Any[/name_f] other -Bertie names? [name_m]Bertram[/name_m] also isn’t usable due to family ties. At one point I liked the idea of [name_m]Aberdeen[/name_m] nn [name_f]Berdie[/name_f] until I learned that the city [name_m]Aberdeen[/name_m] is known as the “armpit of the US” and a murder capital of the PNW.
So no to that one.
We also typically prefer names that are like > 500 in the US, but now we’re considering thing closer to the 200-300 range since we are down to just a few weeks and feeling totally unsettled on a name. ![]()
