I shared a long list with DH last night and these are the names that made the cut. What do you think? We are still looking around so suggestions are more than welcome
[name_f]My[/name_f] style:
I tend to go for sweet, low key namesâŚsometimes with a southern sound. I would like to have a good meaning in the name we choose, not a necessity, though. I am open to names outside of this style, but this is my comfort zone.
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Ava[/name_f]⌠I love the meaning of [name_f]Elise[/name_f]->devoted to God)
[name_f]Annelise[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (Honors two great grandmothers, [name_f]Anne[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. Meaning of [name_f]Annelise[/name_f]->[name_f]Grace[/name_f] and devoted to God)
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Maddy[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. I love this, but I am concerned about the popularity)
[name_u]Madison[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Maddy[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. This is DHâs favorite, but I am concerned about the popularity and meaning of [name_u]Madison[/name_u])
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] (Honors one grandmother and two great grandmothers, [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] meaning->nobility)
[name_f]Liliana[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (Honors two great grandmothers, [name_f]Anne[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f].)
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_u]Emery[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], and [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]!
Other ideas:
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] ([name_u]Love[/name_u] this!!)
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Annelise[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_u]Emery[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] ([name_f]Emma[/name_f] as a nn seems odd to me ALTHOUGH [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is precious.)
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] (Although I donât prefer [name_f]Ava[/name_f] as a nn for [name_u]Avery[/name_u]⌠seems like a different name.)
Also like:
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. ([name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is a classic so I wouldnât worry too much about popularity. The popularity of [name_u]Madison[/name_u] bothers me more since itâs a trend that will sound dated in a few yearsâ time.)
[name_f]Liliana[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
Here are my thoughts on your name combos. [name_f]My[/name_f] faves are bolded.
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] - [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is a completely different name than [name_u]Avery[/name_u] so I donât think itâs a good nickname. I donât get giving a girl a unisex name and then giving her a feminine nickname. That kind of defeats the purpose of choosing the boyish [name_u]Avery[/name_u] in the first place, doesnât it? The combo is heavy on the âeeâ sound.
[name_f]Annelise[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - This combo is just ok due to the repetitive sâs.
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] - these two names sound pretty together.
[name_u]Madison[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Claire[/name_f] but really dislike the trendy [name_u]Madison[/name_u].
[name_u]Emery[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] - again, full name [name_u]Emery[/name_u] to the nn [name_f]Emma[/name_f] isnât intuitive and seems odd to me. This combo flows well.
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] - this is my favourite combo. I love its vintage charm. Now this does sound âSouthernâ to me.
[name_f]Liliana[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - honouring two great grand mothers is a lovely thought. However, if she ends up getting [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a nickname thatâs a bit too heavy on the floral theme.
I completely see all of your points. After I posted this I looked at a few more things. 1) [name_u]Avery[/name_u] means âruler of the elvesââŚI will probably mark that one off. 2)The fact that [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would be naming her after 2 flowersâŚI [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name, but that is a bit heavy. 3)I hadnât thought about [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] as giving a feminine nickname to a unisex nameâŚGood point though.
Thanks for the input! I am a horrible decision maker so I feel like choosing her name is going to happen in the hospital room and I really donât want that. All suggestions are very much appreciated!!
Your names are sweet, and to be honest, I just assumed you are NOT concerned about popularity based on your list⌠until I saw you say you were concerned about [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]/[name_f]Maddy[/name_f] being too popular. [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]/[name_u]Madison[/name_u]/[name_f]Maddy[/name_f] are indeed VASTLY popular but so are your nickname choices [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and Iâm assuming [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] may be shortened to [name_f]Lily[/name_f] at some point. Also, my daughter is three and goes to a small preschool - there are two little girls named [name_u]Avery[/name_u], a [name_u]Madison[/name_u]/[name_f]Maddy[/name_f] an [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and a [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. Again, itâs a small school. I also personally know people who have named their children [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_u]Madison[/name_u], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]/[name_f]Liliana[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f].
That being said, I want to reiterate that all of these names are very sweet, but I just want you to be aware that most of them are very popular. I mean, theyâre popular for a reason, right?
I just read yet another article talking about names âtellingâ when a person was born (i.e. [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] in the 70âs/80âs, [name_f]Karen[/name_f] is a baby boomer, -son names are the current trend). The point was that most people donât think of their children ever as adults. Most of these trendy names of today are âcuteâ when the kid is 5, but what about when sheâs 25? 45? Honestly, [name_u]Madison[/name_u], [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_u]Emery[/name_u] are definitely âtellingâ names. Sure, [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] are also very popular but theyâre still more classic. So, in my opinion, I would go with [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (what about [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]? Or [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]? [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] would be SO CUTE!) or [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] ([name_f]Addie[/name_f]/[name_f]Addie[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] could be cute as a child but she could go by [name_f]Adele[/name_f] if she wants a more âgrown upâ nickname for when sheâs older). [name_f]My[/name_f] third choice would be [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. Yes, itâs very popular, but itâs a sweet, classy name and [name_f]Maddy[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is very cute.
[name_f]My[/name_f] only other suggestion is maybe move [name_f]Claire[/name_f] to the first name spot? I absolutely [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]âŚ
Also maybe consider: [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]?
[name_f]Annelise[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is very pretty [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] would also be beautiful.
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is lovely, but there are a lot of [name_f]Maddy[/name_f]'s out there. We had two in my club this year (about 25-30 kids week to week)
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] are pretty too.
Out of the names on your list, I like [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] the best. I think itâs sweet, feminine, and cute.
I donât like [name_f]Maddy[/name_f] (because I know so many), and I think that [name_u]Madison[/name_u] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] are both too popular. Granted, you might not find popularity as important as I do. [name_u]Emery[/name_u] is all boy to me. [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] are both not my style. [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] is nice. So, thatâs my reasoning for choosing [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], but some of these are completely personal reasons, so theyâre not that relevant to you! This is just my input.
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] is one of my all time favorite names and I think [name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is beautiful! I agree with a PP though - I donât like [name_f]Ava[/name_f] for a NN though. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is too popular and feels like a different name to me.
