…And I hate it!
My DH shot down every name under the sun in favor of [name]Augustus[/name] nn [name]Gus[/name]. There’s no way I’m laboring envisioning “[name]Gus[/name]” being born.
My heart is set on [name]Silas[/name]. My alternate was Ryle (family name). Middle had been settled as Ehrhardt (also family). But now DH is saying he doesn’t like that either.
The only other name we have ever agreed on is [name]Henry[/name]. But my mom’s sister juuuust had a baby named [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Henry[/name]. It’s not a deal-breaker, but makes it less appealing for me. I like nn [name]Hank[/name]. However, [name]Henry[/name] Ehrhardt doesn’t have the best flow with the long E sound ending on [name]Henry[/name] next to the short E beginning on Ehrhardt, and all the “r” sounds are a bit much. AND that makes the name 2-2-1 on syllables.
SOooooo. The alternate mn is [name]Anderson[/name], which I only prefer because it has 3-syllables.
So, brothers-- [name]James[/name] [name]Hamilton[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] [name]Anderson[/name].
Wdyt?? I’ll go with it if it is the only way I can avoid [name]Augustus[/name]. Hubby mentioned [name]Jack[/name] as a fn, but [name]Jacquelyn[/name], [name]James[/name], and [name]Jack[/name] would be overkill–they are all forms of [name]Jaques[/name]! Also, I’m not opposed to mn [name]Augustine[/name] or [name]August[/name]. [name]Henry[/name] [name]Augustine[/name]? [name]Henry[/name] [name]August[/name]?
I’m not in love w/ [name]Henry[/name], but I’ll give it some time to grow on me. Suggestions for a fn that flows w/ Ehrhardt would be greatly appreciated!
I love [name]Augustus[/name]…[name]Gus[/name], not so much. Can you get him to compromise with it as a middle? Maybe [name]Silas[/name] [name]Augustin[/name] would work.
… And I think your husband needs to be reminded how hard labor and pregnancy are and that mommy should be happy with baby’s name after 9 months.

Well James and Henry are standard classics so you don’t have a problem from that angle.
I just love the combo of James Hamilton!!! I really feel that Hamilton has that lovely modern vibe that makes you think of suave men in dangerous situations with lots of sex appeal so please you have to give son No2 the same vibe.

I think its manly but poetic, like [name]Robert[/name] [name]Frost[/name], or [name]Richard[/name] [name]Wilbur[/name]. [name]Love[/name] [name]Frost[/name] by the way, but our last name is [name]Nyx[/name]… Odd combo! [name]Wilber[/name] is a family name I love but DH says its too [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name].
His perception of names is so different from mine. He sees names with a country boy bias–anything not [name]James[/name] is hippy, strange, nerdy or snobbish. Lol. AND YET he likes [name]Augustus[/name]. (As in Lonesome [name]Dove[/name]'s [name]Augustus[/name] McCray) SO I thought I could get [name]Gideon[/name] out o him also via Lonesome [name]Dove[/name]… No dice. Lol

DH voted [name]Archer[/name], and said he liked it better than [name]Henry[/name], the previous contender.
I’m not crazy about either but I think [name]Conrad[/name] Ehrhardt sounds better than [name]Archer[/name] Ehrhardt.

[name]Henry[/name] is an awesome name, [name]IMO[/name]. [name]James[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] is a great sibling pair. [name]Both[/name] have the same feel. [name]Augustus[/name] is not awful on it’s own, but the nn [name]Gus[/name] makes me think the chubby mouse in Disney’s [name]Cinderella[/name], haha. [name]Silas[/name] doesn’t seem to have the same feel as [name]James[/name], to me at least, nor does [name]Conrad[/name], but [name]Archer[/name] is a little closer. [name]Henry[/name] would still be my choice out of those four, both stylistically and personal preference. I like the pp’s suggestion of [name]Henry[/name] [name]Carlisle[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] [name]Alexander[/name], but if you are really wanting to use that family name I honestly think [name]Henry[/name] Ehrhardt sounds nice. I don’t find there is an issue with the “e” sounds, and even though they are both technically 2 syllables, there is something about the “dt” sound at the the end of Ehrhardt that makes it work for me.

If it helps I really don’t like [name]Augustus[/name] - I can’t help thinking of the greedy boy in [name]Charlie[/name] and the chocolate factory who just ate sweets all day.
[name]Henry[/name] fits much better with [name]James[/name].
I agree that [name]James[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] are a classic pair. Some ppl aren’t in love w/ [name]Silas[/name] and [name]James[/name]. To me they are perfect New Testament names, along w/ the Apostles, [name]Titus[/name], [name]Barnabas[/name], [name]Apollo[/name], and countless other missionaries and disciples.
[name]Silas[/name] Ehrhardt is already the baby’s name imo, anything else is a huge compromise for me and it kinda hurts that DH hasn’t given in. It also stands alone for me, I love it even if seems imperfect in the sibset.
That’s not to say I can’t find a smashing combo for [name]Archer[/name] or [name]Conrad[/name]. If I have to give up [name]Silas[/name], I had better really like the alternative. Why use a name neither of us REALLY Loves?
