[name_m]Hi[/name_m] guys !! I am new to this forum and I have heard that we can also discuss our pregnancy related issues besides baby names over here. Well I am very disturbed today as one of my friends was expecting from 2 months and meanwhile she has been diagnosed with diabetes. She and her husband are very fond of children in their life. She is very much worried about her condition that either she should abort the baby or continue the pregnancy. It’s a very tough time and I need your suggestion what to do now. Your suggestions would be highly appreciable. Thanks.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there, diabetes in pregnancy is common and is called gestational diabetes. I was also diagnosed with it in my last trimester, I am also very worried but my doctor told me that I just have to keep a check of my bold sugar every day, and if it’s controlled there is no threat to either baby or me. I would suggest you to ask your friend to take her doctor’s advice and also visit a good endocrinologist.
Diabetes in pregancy is common and controllable with good eating habits and exercise. Some women may need to take insulin to manage. If they want to have a baby, diabetes doesn’t have to be a threat to that.
I’ve had it multiple times, and my babies and I have been just fine.
Gestational diabetes is intimidating to learn about and deal with at first, but it really puts you in so much control of your health, having to make the right choices for yourself and your baby.
I found it to be empowering.
Frustration, annoyance, and being upset about it are normal. Intense fear, not as much.
Please advise your friend to get real-life support from women who have been there and done that, and from her healthcare professionals, who are very used to dealing with this common condition.
Good luck!
Hello ladies.I went through this and well it ain’t so bad…my sugar has never been high until my 3rd child. you will just keep a check on it with a glucose meter the worst part you have is to prick ur finger every morning before you eat and see how high your sugar is and if you were like me I wanted something to eat as soon as I got up and you can’t eat before you check it…but if your sugar reads to high they will either want you to come in or set up an appointment. Sounds like you may just have to watch your sugar and maybe you haven’t developed gestational diabetes. And you will have to watch your sugar intake. Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m] the 3rd child is now 5 and has started kindergarten and is doing great’ my sugar never did run high again not even in my 4th pregnancy!don’t stress yourself because stress is bad through pregnancy.Good luck.
So far I have never been pregnant. However I have a metabolic disorder called PCOS. Gestatgional Diabetes is very common with PCOS and I know many people who’ve had it. So I’d agree with everything that’s already been said.
This should not be a reason to terminate a pregnancy. Your friend needs to take extra special care of herself and baby, she should really listen to what the doctors are saying and always, always(!!!) get a second opinion. Also going to an endocrinologist would be very beneficial. I have to go to an endocrinologist for my PCOS and I neither know nor want to know where I would be without her!
It’s definitely manageable, even though it’s frightening at first!
