Diana nn Annie?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries!

My husband’s mother’s name was [name_f]Diana[/name_f]. She, unfortunately, passed away when he was 12. He, understandably, wants to name our daughter (if we’re blessed with one) after her. I’m not thrilled with the name, but am learning to love it, with the nickname [name_f]Annie[/name_f].

My first question is: What do you think of [name_f]Diana[/name_f] nn [name_f]Annie[/name_f]?

  1. [name_m]Will[/name_m] [name_f]Annie[/name_f] age well?

  2. [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]?

Thanks so much!

[name_f]Diana[/name_f]'s a classic name and you can certainly use [name_f]Annie[/name_f] as a nn. I know adults named [name_f]Annie[/name_f] so I think it can age well, but if she doesn’t like it, she could use [name_f]Diana[/name_f]. Either [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] work well-- both classic choices.

  1. What do you think of [name_f]Diana[/name_f] nn [name_f]Annie[/name_f]? I would nickname the girl [name_u]Dai[/name_u] or [name_f]Didi[/name_f] (depends on how you pronounce the name), but [name_f]Annie[/name_f] works fine. [name_f]Ana[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. Pretty cute.

  2. [name_m]Will[/name_m] [name_f]Annie[/name_f] age well? OF COURSE. [name_f]Annie[/name_f] is like [name_f]Ana[/name_f]: timeless.

  3. [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I think this combo flows better than the other. And [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] makes me think about the British [name_u]Royal[/name_u] Family ALL THE TIME.

IDEAS (if you change your mind about [name_f]Diana[/name_f], but still think it’s a good idea):
[name_f]Diandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Daiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahliana[/name_f] (pretty interesting)
[name_f]Dulciana[/name_f] (meh… nn [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f])
[name_f]Ariana[/name_f]

PS: I know there are [name_f]Marys[/name_f] in the british royal family by the way.

I prefer [name_f]Ana[/name_f] as a nickname rather than [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. [name_f]Annie[/name_f] is fine for a girl but I feel [name_f]Ana[/name_f] is more becoming of a woman. I prefer [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] over [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f].

Thank you all for your sweet comments!

I’m kind of loving [name_f]Didi[/name_f]

Oh, and I should have mentioned … Elizabeth and Mary are both family names!

[name_f]Diana[/name_f] is a wonderful name. You would definitely shorten it to [name_f]Annie[/name_f] ([name_f]Diana[/name_f] -> [name_f]Ana[/name_f] -> [name_f]Annie[/name_f]). I think that [name_f]Annie[/name_f] doesn’t age well but it’s a very cute nickname. I agree with lu_brasil, [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] reminds me of the British [name_u]Royal[/name_u] Family. [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] doesn’t flow well in my opinion. However I will always love the name [name_f]Mary[/name_f] because my daughter’s name is [name_f]Maria[/name_f]. Since both [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] are family names, you could choose a double middle name, [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] for instance, or just use a variation.
Instead of [name_f]Mary[/name_f], I like [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f]. My daughter’s boyfriend calls her [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] and since then I really like it and it doesn’t sound old to me. But I don’t know if it could work in the USA.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] offers more choices, [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]/[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] or any other [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] variation almost eliminates the connection to the royal family.
I would choose [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] but it may seem to regal for you. Maybe it sounds more regal than just [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. However [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is perfection. The names are classic and girly at the same time and could work both for a girl and for a grown woman.

I hope I help you☺ Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!

Why not use it as a mn if you’re not exactly loving it?

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] work well.

I love the name [name_f]Diana[/name_f], it is beautiful and classic and so underused. I am not sure [name_f]Annie[/name_f] would feel like a natural nickname. Maybe you could use [name_f]Diana[/name_f] as a middle? Or use it as her first name and call her by her middle?

I like [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] best.
