Did Beyoncé ruin the name Ivy?

I really love the name [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] for my daughter. I’m worried Beyoncé will be in my head the rest of my life. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that would go away?

Beyoncé’s daughter is actually named [name_u]Blue[/name_u] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] (which sounds like a description of a THING rather than a person’s name). [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] still retains its vintage charm and spunky spirit for me. If you love [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], then I would encourage you to choose it for your daughter. My advice: pair it with something classy in the middle spot and she’ll be fine!

I don’t associate [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] with [name_f]Beyonce[/name_f]'s baby at all. Especially since it’s only her middle name. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is beautiful! I wouldn’t let [name_f]Beyonce[/name_f] stop you from using it. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it did make some people think of [name_f]Beyonce[/name_f]'s baby, by the time your daughter is an adult, that shouldn’t be an issue anymore. When your daughter is 50, I doubt anyone she knows will be talking about [name_f]Beyonce[/name_f] & [name_u]Blue[/name_u] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] :stuck_out_tongue:

[name_f]Beyonce[/name_f] and [name_u]Jay[/name_u]-Z are keeping their daughter out of the spotlight, and even if they weren’t I don’t think anyone would exclusively associate [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] with their daughter. Her name is [name_u]Blue[/name_u].

As the other posters said [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is her middle name. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is a perfectly lovely name. It might shoot up in popularity because of [name_u]Blue[/name_u] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], but I don’t see why you couldn’t use it.

Use it! It’s a great name and not tarnished at all by [name_f]Beyonce[/name_f]'s use of it as a middle. Plus most people respect Beyoncé so even if there is a connection, it’s not a bad one.

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is eternal!

It’s not like you’re naming your daughter [name_u]Blue[/name_u], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is a long established name with lots of other associations including most obviously the plant which I think is a stronger association than a celebs daughter. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]'s such a pretty name, don’t let one pop culture association ruin it for you.

The amount of times I think about Beyoncé in a week is virtually never, and her daughter’s name is [name_u]Blue[/name_u], so the association is even less, in my opinion.

I don’t think [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is too linked to Beyoncé at all. I just think of crawling, spidery vines :).

[name_f]Beyonce[/name_f] ruins nothing.

I don’t think she did, since, as other people pointed out, her daughter is caled [name_u]BLue[/name_u] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], and not ‘only’ [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is, very generally speaking, becoming more popular (alongside [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]). I really doubt that in years to come it will become associated with [name_f]Beyonce[/name_f] and [name_u]Jay[/name_u] Z’s daughter [name_u]Blue[/name_u] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. As other posters have pointed out, it doesn’t seem like [name_u]Blue[/name_u] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is ever called just [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].

Secondly, her middle name [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] was (apparently) chosen as a reference to the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] numeral IV or ‘4’ as it is a special number to [name_f]Beyonce[/name_f] and [name_u]Jay[/name_u] Z. Therefore it is questionable whether B & J’s daughter [name_u]Blue[/name_u] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is named in reference botanical ‘[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]’ at all, like most girls with this name are.
