Did Nevaeh ruin Neve?

[name_f]Neve[/name_f] (pronounced Nehv) has been on my short list for some time, and now that I’m pregnant (!!!) it is a contender. However, I’ve recently been thinking of taking it off, because it might just become “white noise” (to borrow another [name_u]Berry[/name_u]'s expression) against a sea of Nevaehs. Also, I imagine a lot of Nevaehs use “[name_u]Nev[/name_u]” as a nickname.

Sigh. Would it be crazy to knock it off for this reason?

Why should [name_f]Neve[/name_f] by ruined by [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f]? They’re not even remotely related. [name_f]Neve[/name_f] was a Dutch surname (actress [name_f]Neve[/name_f] [name_u]Campbell[/name_u]'s mother’s maiden name) or an Anglicized version of the Irish name [name_f]Niamh[/name_f]. [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] is a modern invention and is just a silly name for heaven spelled backwards. If I were you, I would keep [name_f]Neve[/name_f] on your short list.

Nope. Not at all.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] girls named Navaeh really use [name_f]Neve[/name_f] as a nn? If so, I can appreciate not wanting to be associated with that trend. Before marking it off the list, I’d endeavor to find out how common a nn [name_f]Neve[/name_f] really is. Perhaps checking one of the baby name sites where parents actually like the name? Or there are some teachers who frequent these forums; perhaps they will weigh in on the commonality of the nn.

I had the same question! I like both [name_f]Neve[/name_f] (nehve) as well as [name_f]Neve[/name_f] (N-[name_f]EEVE[/name_f]) but am/was also concerned with the connection to [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f]!

I think that ( or at least hope that) [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] will die out soon! I personally know 4 [name_f]Neveah[/name_f]'s and all go by [name_u]Nev[/name_u] at least occasionally BUT I don’t think you should disqualify it just due to that! I think it is a great name with lots of spunk!

Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!

An alternative could be using the Irish name [name_f]Niamh[/name_f], pronounced “neev”.
