Did you create a sibset when you were little?

I did, and I’m eager to hear about others’.

For over a decade, I imagined I was the red-headed mother of 12 girls. We lived in [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] Island and while I was a MASH (TV show) nurse married to character Hawkeye [name_m]Pierce[/name_m], he was nowhere to be seen in my fantasy, just me and my 12 daughters, each from a different father.

So you can see that I had a wild imagination and borrowed from TV and cats, who I think can have kittens from different fathers.

My children’s names also came from a mixture of TV, movies, children’s books, history, musicians, plants, and two dolls ([name_f]Holly[/name_f] Hobbie and [name_f]Hitty[/name_f], the doll book).

They were [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f], [name_u]Hilary[/name_u] [name_u]Patrice[/name_u], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Erica[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Constance[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Holly[/name_f] [name_f]Mehitabel[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f], the twins [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Glenda[/name_f], and [name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].

Not what I’d choose now, but not bad considering I named them when I was around 8 or 9. I loved how they were all from different nationalities and played different instruments and spoke different languages. Of course I now see that I was imagining different selves I could become because, whoa! I am not suited to single parent 12 children no matter how gorgeous my imagined flaming red hair.

Interested to hear other early-imagined families.

I imagined up quite a few names. The earliest I can remember are from around age 12. I was convinced I would have twin girls and name them [name_f]Angelique[/name_f] and [name_u]Dominique[/name_u] (lol). I also liked (for non twins) [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Denise[/name_f]. Years later I thought I’d name a boy [name_u]Mars[/name_u], and have girls Imzadi and Jadzia. I was constantly writing up little stories and naming those characters, too.

Yes! When I was little we often played the board game LIFE, and I used the same names over and over to name my baby pegs, or for kids when we played the MASH game with friends.

Back then my choice names were: [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f], [name_f]Marina[/name_f], [name_f]Ashlea[/name_f], [name_m]Garrett[/name_m], and [name_m]Rocky[/name_m]. Not too bad, other than having both a [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] and a [name_m]Rocky[/name_m]! Also not sure what I was doing with [name_f]Ashlea[/name_f]. I think it’s a name I saw on TV and I dunno if it was pronounced how I was saying it.

The earliest sibset I came up with that I can think of was 8 girls;

[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f]-[name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Kaitlynn[/name_f], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u], [name_f]Savannah[/name_f], [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_u]Addison[/name_u].

Curious to know if folks “saw” their kids or if they were just favorite names. I knew mine like characters in a book.

I had tons of sibsets when I was younger. I used to know exactly how many kids, what sex, what order, what age, and what names, and sometimes had personalities when I got older.

I had my best sets in middle school. In seventh grade, I had [name_f]Siddalee[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] “[name_f]Siddie[/name_f]”, [name_f]Adalyn[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f] “[name_f]Addie[/name_f]”, [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] [name_m]Robert[/name_m], [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], and [name_f]Brynlee[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] “[name_f]Brynn[/name_f]”.

In seventh and eighth grade, I had this sibset that always included some sort of high-order multiple. I had a set with six kids including quintuplets named: [name_f]Adalyn[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f] “[name_f]Addie[/name_f]”, [name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f], [name_u]Carter[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], [name_f]Brynlee[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. Then I added [name_f]Lila[/name_f] Katriel in between [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and the quints, and I substituted [name_f]Brynlee[/name_f] out for a boy named [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] [name_m]Christopher[/name_m].

Mine was [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f], and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f]. Obviously I was a huge fan of “mom” names!

[name_m]Even[/name_m] though I’m only just a teenager I’m a massive name nerd but I can’t remember my early ideas. However, my 7=year-old sister imagines her with four daughters:
Trixabelle [name_u]Leaf[/name_u]
Twilight [name_f]Honey[/name_f]
[name_u]Skye[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]

Although some of those names are a bit wild she was so set on them for a long time (she even had ‘unicorns’ with those names).

When I was 7 or 8 I imagined myself growing up to marry a guy named [name_m]Robert[/name_m] and having eight kids (four boys and four girls). I can’t remember any of the younger kids names, but the oldest were twins [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] and [name_m]Eric[/name_m], followed by [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] and [name_f]Maureen[/name_f], a year or two apart.

I wouldn’t use these names now, but I still really like them! I had hundreds of drawings of all of us too – [name_m]Robert[/name_m] had particularly bad hair and a [name_m]Salvador[/name_m] Dali style moustache as I recall!

Back in the early 80’s, I wanted girls named [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] & [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]…glad I never had babies back then!

I was obsessed for a while having 2 girls, [name_f]Carsyn[/name_f] [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] and [name_f]Braelyn[/name_f] Mikiya. I also wanted some boys, [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] and [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. I still really like [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] but I can’t use it. I also remember when I was like 6 wanting to be named [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] or [name_u]Ashley[/name_u].

I never imagined sibsets growing up. I had only ever wanted just one child so it never never crossed my mind to consider siblings. Instead, I created ridiculously long combos and tried to fit every single favorite and honoring name I could into them. I don’t remember any specific combos as that was roughly 20 years ago but my favorites were [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] so they’d be some terrible monstrosity with no flow like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f].

It was a dark time in names for me…

[name_m]Damien[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] and Kaliahna [name_f]Brielle[/name_f], nn [name_f]Kali[/name_f]. [name_f]Kali[/name_f] was from a book I read when I was eleven or twelve, and [name_m]Damien[/name_m] was a kid I babysat. I thought I made up [name_f]Brielle[/name_f] haha.

One of my clearest memories of earlier ‘naming ventures’ (and incidentally the only sibset thing I remember doing) was when I had what I thought was the brilliant and patriotic idea of naming two daughters (twins??) after the [name_f]Queen[/name_f], after discovering that I really liked all her three names. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I liked [name_f]Rose[/name_f] better than [name_f]Mary[/name_f] with both names, but . . . shrugs
I also either forgot or ignored the fact that a close family member is named [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

Now? I still love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but she’s just a bit too classic. Ditto [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I’ve gone off [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], which I think I liked in the first place because of the nickname [name_u]Lexi[/name_u]. And I really wouldn’t want to give my daughter the exact name this family member has, though I love her to bits!

This is great stuff! [name_u]Love[/name_u] it.

I loved 3 names, [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] and [name_u]Riley[/name_u] and I thought they’d make a perfect sibset. I still love [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], although I prefer [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], Isobeau, [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] etc now, I remember I found [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] elegant and princessy. [name_u]Riley[/name_u] was a pure name crush, I called my bear [name_u]Riley[/name_u] but I don’t know where I got it from. [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] was from a magazine, woman’s something, it was an article about a woman’s rainbow baby whom she called [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] which means life and I just loved it.

[name_m]Even[/name_m] now, I feel a bit stupid saying it, but I’ve planned it all out. My family always makes fun of me!

23-years-old : [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]
25-years-old : Get Married
27-years-old : [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] [name_m]Colin[/name_m]
32-years-old : [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f] (twins run in my family and my mum has a spooky sixth sense with things like this and is ALWAYS right!). I guess I still am young although I don’t think like that.

I never really imagined sibsets or ever really imagined myself having a partner and kids as a child, but I do remember some names that I liked for some reason or other: [name_f]Melanie[/name_f], [name_f]Florine[/name_f], [name_f]Carline[/name_f], Mylene, [name_f]Mirella[/name_f], [name_f]Loretta[/name_f], [name_f]Laia[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Vana[/name_f], [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]-[name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Arielle[/name_f], [name_f]Nala[/name_f], [name_f]Angela[/name_f]… certainly a somewhat incoherent style, haha. I also remember hating my unusual name in primary school and vowing to name my future daughters (if any) something “normal” such as [name_f]Anne[/name_f] or [name_f]Laura[/name_f]…

I love reading these stories, so funny!

My brother and I used to play that we were teenage sibilings [name_m]John[/name_m] and [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] when we were kids. We were rebelious and pretended to smoke (cigarettes were salt sticks lol).
I used to come up with interesting names for my kids - such as Desert [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - which I thought was so innovative until I realised it was a song by Sting. Oh well

The names I had picked for my kids as a kid.
[name_u]Shannon[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] and [name_u]Jayden[/name_u] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]
[name_f]Shayla[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] and [name_u]Jayden[/name_u] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]
[name_f]Alana[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] and [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_u]Riley[/name_u]- These were my top combos from the age of 12 until I was probably 17 or 18.
