Did you name your child the name you always dreamt of?

I have recently been thinking about what names on my list I might actually consider using the future and what names are names I just love for someone else. I am no where near having children, but am still curious about this. I have heard of couples having names chosen prior to becoming pregnant but changing their mind completely when it came time to naming a real baby.

I am wondering whether or not you ended up naming your children the names you had always dreamed of?
If not, why not?
And if you did, was it a name you always loved or something you and your SO chose entirely together?

And what were the names!

Thanks! xoxo

For my sons name, it was a name my husband and I choose before I even got pregnant. [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] [name_u]Vaughn[/name_u]. We didn’t even really discuss names when I got pregnant bc we both felt like it was a boy and we both still loved the name we picked out years ago. [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] just because we love it and [name_u]Vaughn[/name_u] for my late uncle.

When I got pregnant with my second. We didn’t have any names we agreed on. I’ve always had a hard time picturing what my daughters name would be since I’m always changing my mind on girl names. There has only been 4 names that I’ve consistently loved ([name_f]Araminta[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f]/Rosalie, [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]). I had to let [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] go since I really do not like the prn in Spanish. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband vetoed all those as the first name but I did get [name_f]Araminta[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as her middle name. We both really like [name_f]Iris[/name_f] so we went with that. Although most of the time I call her [name_f]Minty[/name_f].

For future kids I would love to have a [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] and [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]! If it were up to my hubby it would be [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] and [name_f]Lilith[/name_f].

Very long story below:

Summary

I have not had the chance to name a baby yet. The names that we will end up choosing will be a lot different than the names I used to love!
I have been keeping track of names that I like since I was in elementary school. The names that I like have changed so much since then! And actually, my list has changed a lot even this year. I constantly grow tired of certain names and fall in love with new ones!
[name_f]My[/name_f] significant other is not passionate about names like I am, but he does have opinions about names.
For boys, he had one name in his mind that he had always wanted to name his future son. Unfortunately, the name is the same name of my oldest brother, who was stillborn. I knew it would hurt my mom too much. We ended up discovering a new boys name we loved together ([name_u]Archer[/name_u]) and the name of my brother ([name_m]Jacob[/name_m]) is now in the middle spot.
As for girls, my husband and I have very different naming styles, so it will be hard for us to settle on one name.
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband is not a fan of a lot of the names that I love, so I may not be able to use them. I also vetoed some of his names!
[name_f]My[/name_f] two favorite girl names are [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband does not like [name_f]Isla[/name_f], and he is lukewarm about [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].
With his favorite names ([name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]), I think they are nice, but they don’t feel like " the name".
We will have to find a way to compromise I guess. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if we do end up having a girl first, there is no guarantee that we will have another girl, so one of us might not get to use our favorite girl name.

Beatrice and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] were on our list but were both of our 2nd/3rd choices. We decided on [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] at 20 weeks after an ultrasound where we found out she was a girl. [name_f]Bea[/name_f], [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] were my top choices. I had also just read about a baby on nameberry named [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] whose cousins called her bee-tik. We thought that was so cute and it really humanized the name for us. Our [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] now calls herself BeeKit and I call her that too!

Ooh, I’m interested to see the responses. [name_f]My[/name_f] SO and I have a pretty well curated list of options selected and we’re still ttc! The process for years has been me suggesting name I loves, and the ones we both love go on the list. Right now, I’m pretty certain we’ll stick to this list, but who knows - maybe none of them will suit the baby and we’ll be starting from scratch …
