Did your style change when you became pregnant?

[name]Hi[/name] everyone,

It’s been so long since I’ve been on the forums. It’s so strange… ever since I became pregnant I’ve become LESS obsessed with names. Who would have thought??

I have been bouncing ideas around in my head, though. It seems ever since choosing a name becme ‘real’, my tastes have changed slightly. Perhaps I’m less adventurous than I thought, but I’ve been thinking of names that are more familiar and classic. Of course, I still like I bit of spunk.

Before conceiving, my faves for girls were:
[name]Eulalie[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Mirabelle[/name], [name]Clementine[/name], [name]Viola[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Harriet[/name]

Boys were:
[name]Theodore[/name], [name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Edmund[/name], [name]Oscar[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Frederick[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Barnaby[/name]

I’m basically set on [name]Hugo[/name] if we have a boy. I love it. I can totally visualise my son being [name]Hugo[/name]… whereas the longer names I just can’t see in reality. I’m even preferring [name]Theo[/name] over [name]Theodore[/name]! And I’m not usually a nicknamey type of girl.

Similar thoughts with girls.
[name]Audrey[/name] has sprung out of nowhere to the # 1 spot. Although I’ve always loved her, I completely dismissed her due to popularity.
I’m starting to think popularity doesn’t matter to me as much as choosing a beautiful, classic name.

My name is [name]Claire[/name], and even though I have met my fair share of [name]Claire[/name]/[name]Clare[/name]/[name]Clair[/name] 's, I still love that my name has that classic, timeless feel. I would like to give my children the same.

So this is where I’m at. [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name]. What do you think?
Can you suggest others? What about middle names? So far I have…

[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Alice[/name] *honours
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Edith[/name] *honours

  • I still adore [name]Eulalie[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] but they don’t seem as timeless.

[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] (would honour his Dad)
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]William[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Timothy[/name] *honours
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Frederick[/name]

Would love your feedback!
[name]Claire[/name] x

I really like your choice of [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Clementine[/name]. These two names have such a rythmic ring to them. For your choice of boys, [name]Hugo[/name] [name]Timothy[/name] does it for me. Again the combo is really great.
Great choices I think on your part.

[name]Hi[/name]!

Well, I’m not pregnant and have no children, but I’m nearly certain that my favorites will be 100% different!

[name]Hugo[/name] is fantastic! Very handsome. From your list, I think that they all flow well. Personally, though, I might pick [name]Hugo[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] or [name]Hugo[/name] [name]Timothy[/name] since they honor…

From your old list:
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Barnaby[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Dashiell[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Edmund[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Henry[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]

Others:
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Daniel[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Dominic[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Elias[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]

[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Julius[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Matthias[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Peter[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Phineas[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Xavier[/name]

I agree with you, [name]Audrey[/name] is gorgeous and timeless, and if you love the name, the popularity isn’t too big of a deal. Besides, [name]Audrey[/name]'s beauty is the reason for the popularity! [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Alice[/name] are my favorites…

[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name]

Good luck!

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Claire[/name],

I know exactly what you are talking about. Before I had kids, my style was much more “out there,” but it has changed since I think about a real person having that name.

BTW, I [name]LOVE[/name] your name since it’s the name of my eldest, [name]Claire[/name] [name]Elise[/name]!

AND, [name]Audrey[/name] was on my list for #2 (we ended up going with [name]Sophie[/name] which is more popular but suits our little girl really well). I think it’s an excellent choice, for the same reason you mentioned: like your name, it’s a classic name that will grow up well.

Any of the MNs you posted will work. Keep in mind, though, if this is your first, once you start using the MN slot to honor relatives then you kind of need to keep that going the next time. We steered away from naming after relatives for that reason so that nobody would get hurt if we just didn’t like their name!

[name]Love[/name] your boy name choice also. Sorry if I’m not much help,I just think you’re really on the right track and can’t go wrong here.

[name]Hi[/name]! I love [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name], especially [name]Hugo[/name] [name]Patrick[/name]! With [name]Audrey[/name], how about [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Claire[/name]? Very timeless and classic together.

Thanks for your replies

I love the suggestion of [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]. I think it’s a beautiful combination and honours my mother, [name]Carol[/name]. Thanks [name]Cecily[/name]!

I don’t think I can really top [name]Hugo[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] It’s like they’re made for eachother…

[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Claire[/name] is very pretty, but using both of our names might come off as a bit self loving! haha! I guess [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Clara[/name] is a possibility…

Thanks for the advice about using family names! I’ll just have to research the tree and make sure there’s enough goodies in there to last the rest of the kiddies!

 x

Naming a theoretical baby is much different than naming a real baby who will grow up, go to school, get into college, and get a job! [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] is gorgeous and classic!

[name]Hi[/name]! Yes, my style definitely did change, but I think the change came about after having my son instead of right when I became pregnant with him.

Like you, I’ve always been intrigued by uncommon names, especially undiscovered or vastly underused ones that have a lot of the same sound patterns as more popular names. A lot of the names on my list were rather sophisticated or dignified, I guess you’d say. I had [name]Julius[/name], [name]Gideon[/name], [name]Frederick[/name], [name]Elliot[/name], [name]Alasdair[/name], [name]Alaric[/name], [name]Hadrian[/name], [name]Caspian[/name], [name]Edward[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Wesley[/name] on the boys’ list. On the girls’ were [name]Clara[/name], [name]Susanna[/name], [name]Adelie[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Marian[/name], [name]Demetra[/name], Evanthia, [name]Leta[/name], [name]Gwendolen[/name].

Now that I’ve had a baby, I think I tend to prefer names with a simpler, sweeter, more innocent sound – lots of biblical choices or other names that seem as if they would have been at home in Colonial [name]America[/name]. We named our son [name]Julius[/name] [name]Arthur[/name], and I think that’s as dignified as I want to get. Now we have just the simpler names on our list – like [name]Clara[/name], [name]Susanna[/name], [name]Miriam[/name], [name]Elliot[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Wesley[/name].

I could not see myself choosing [name]Alaric[/name] or Evanthia anymore. They’re still lovely names, but they don’t seem as if they could be right for my child.
