Often I stumble upon a boy’s name, love it, then come to thesad realisation that it’d be difficult for him to pull the name off throughout childhood to adolescence to adult hood.
I find it easier to imagine these sorts of names on girls as boys cold be subject to more being
Ickes one due to their different name.
This is a list of names I feel most fit this field, am I being too panickty or do you berries agree? Are there any you’d add?
I think it’s doable, you can give them nicknames if that helps to make them more kiddish? Like [name]Leonard[/name] can be [name]Lenny[/name]. [name]Eugene[/name] can be [name]Gene[/name]. My grandpa’s name is [name]Gene[/name] (well it’s his middle name, but he goes by it because he hates his first name). [name]Howard[/name] can be [name]Howie[/name]… and so on…
[name]Leonard[/name], [name]Atticus[/name] and [name]Lloyd[/name] seem the most useable to me. [name]Leonard[/name] particularly with the nn [name]Leo[/name], while [name]Atticus[/name] and [name]Lloyd[/name] would just fit in completely.
[name]Eugene[/name] reminds me geeks, for some reason.
[name]Digby[/name] sounds like a dog.
Lastly, I really don’t think [name]Lionel[/name], [name]Howard[/name] and [name]Cyril[/name] are ready for a comeback just yet.
With [name]Horatio[/name] all I can think about is [name]Horatio[/name] [name]Caine[/name] (CSI [name]Miami[/name]) and then there’s Sylverster the cat but I quite like [name]Sylvester[/name].
[name]Magnus[/name] just seems a bit of a strange choice.
These are the ones from your list that are doable but I only like [name]Eugene[/name] as a middle unless you get the nn of [name]Gene[/name]. [name]Magnus[/name] only as a middle with Norse kind of first name.
Honestly, I agree with you on most of them. Nickname or no nickname, I think it would be really, really hard to be a [name]Eugene[/name], [name]Leonard[/name], [name]Cyril[/name], or [name]Lionel[/name], especially if the boy turns out to be a bit shy or bookish. I think some of the others - specifically [name]Magnus[/name] and [name]Sylvester[/name] have a bit of a cool vibe that makes them easier to pull off.
I think [name]Leonard[/name] (nn [name]Leo[/name]), [name]Lionel[/name], and [name]Howard[/name] (nn [name]Howard[/name]) would not be hard for a boy to pull off.
I know several Leonards or Leonardos. Nn [name]Leo[/name] or [name]Len[/name] or [name]Lenny[/name]. I’d agree with you wrt some of the others, especially [name]Horatio[/name] [name]Lionel[/name] & [name]Lloyd[/name]. I’m not sure what nns you could give to those 3 names!
[name]Lionel[/name], nn [name]Leo[/name], is one of my favorite names, so I think it’s usable. I feel the same about [name]Leonard[/name] and [name]Magnus[/name], and I know a little [name]Howard[/name] who wears his name quite well. I don’t care for it much, but [name]Atticus[/name] is downright trendy in some circles.
Really, the only ones I’d be too afraid to use under any circumstances are [name]Horatio[/name] and [name]Sylvester[/name].
[name]Leonard[/name] - I personally prefer [name]Leo[/name] or [name]Leon[/name] but [name]Leonard[/name] can be called [name]Leo[/name]. Not a huge big deal.
[name]Howard[/name] - I know one that goes by [name]Howie[/name] and one that goes by [name]Hal[/name]. Not that bad.
[name]Atticus[/name] - Trendy if anything.
[name]Cyril[/name] - I just like [name]Cyrus[/name] better but I’m not sure [name]Cyrus[/name] is easier to manage. Either one probably goes by [name]Cy[/name].
[name]Digby[/name] - [name]Digby[/name] isn’t all that uncommon here, in [name]Oz[/name]. I think getting called Digger is not that heinous. My husband just thinks it sounds vaguely upper-class eccentric.
[name]Magnus[/name] - Usable I’d think. I like it.
[name]Horatio[/name] - I’d think [name]Hector[/name] would be a lot more usable.
I never realized it before, but i actually [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Lionel[/name]! He could go by [name]Leo[/name], or [name]Nole[/name]. I probably like it because of [name]Lionel[/name] [name]Luther[/name] from Smallville. Thanks to the show it really come across as an cunning, sophisticated, go getter name to me. On the “bad boy” side. I like it!
All of your names are great, they look like a list of men’s names not boys. I wish more people would name their child as if they were naming an adult. A name may be cute when their little but what about when they’re 40 and in the corporate world?
These names are a bit heavy but that’s what nn are for. Can’t think of a nn for [name]Magnus[/name] or [name]Atticus[/name] but he could have an unrelated nn (my grandpa [name]Eugene[/name] was only called [name]Red[/name]) or go by his MN or initials
[name]Leonard[/name]- [name]Leo[/name], [name]Lee[/name]
[name]Eugene[/name]- [name]Gene[/name], G
[name]Lionel[/name]- [name]Leo[/name]
[name]Howard[/name]- [name]Howie[/name]
[name]Atticus[/name]
[name]Lloyd[/name]- Lo
[name]Cyril[/name]- [name]Cy[/name]
[name]Sylvester[/name]- [name]Sly[/name], Syl
[name]Digby[/name]- Diggy
[name]Magnus[/name]
[name]Horatio[/name]- [name]Ray[/name], Tio
