Dilema about a family name...what do you think?

My Dh were talking last night and we both really like the name…

[name]Annabelle[/name]

but it’s a close family name

So you already have a [name]Gabriella[/name] and you want to name her [name]Annabelle[/name]? For me, that is too close, even without considering the cousin. I wouldn’t use [name]Annabelle[/name] or [name]Isabella[/name] or [name]Isabelle[/name] if I already had a child with an -ella/-elle name.

But also, if she has a cousin named [name]Annabelle[/name] that you see frequently (and it sounds like you see them often), I wouldn’t choose the same name. I considered [name]Margaret[/name] for my daughter, but my cousin’s DD is [name]Margaret[/name] – we only see them once every year but that was enough for me to veto it. Having a [name]Gabriella[/name] and two [name]Annabelle[/name]'s playing together in one room would be way too much for me.

I personally see two major strikes against the name. They are dealbreakers for me, so I wouldn’t consider using it myself, but ultimately it is your child/your decision.

I think there are a lot of very lovely names out there that might appeal just as much to you!

very true! And the more I think about it, the more I tend to completely agree with you. Great advice

I think [name]Meadow[/name] is lovely!

[name]How[/name] about [name]Anneliese[/name]? I loooove the name [name]Anneliese[/name], and I think it sounds gorgeous with [name]Gabriella[/name]. It would be distinctive enough from cousin [name]Annabelle[/name], too.

[name]Annalise[/name] is actually really pretty also, never even thought of that name. Thanks for the suggestion for our possible future list

I agree with previous poster: give this new little girl her own distinct name! To give you some ideas, if you like

[name]Sophia[/name] … you might also like [name]Silvia[/name]? (my daughter’s name)
[name]Liana[/name] …[name]Lila[/name]? [name]Lilac[/name]?
[name]Isabelle[/name] / [name]Isabella[/name]/ [name]Annabelle[/name] … [name]Mirabelle[/name]? [name]Clarabelle[/name]? [name]Maybel[/name]?
[name]Meadow[/name] … this name seems very different from [name]Gabriella[/name]. There are other great nature names out there too. Maybe a more common flower name like [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Lily[/name], [name]Flora[/name], [name]Hazel[/name], or even [name]Willow[/name]?

I personally wouldn’t do it, though I do [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Annabelle[/name] and have a daughter named [name]Annabel[/name] myself. I love the suggestion of [name]Anneliese[/name] and I also really like [name]Meadow[/name]. I know an 8 yr old named [name]Meadow[/name] and it isn’t a weird name at all, it fits her very well and I know her mom gets lots of compliments on it.

[name]Even[/name] though [name]Sophia[/name] is a popular name, I think it’s such a beautiful one!! I also think it’s classic and timeless.
[name]Gabriella[/name] & [name]Sophia[/name] sound like a good sibset, [name]IMO[/name].
I normally would veto it because of it’s popularity; however, I have had personal experience with this name and still absolutely love it!!!

I also like the name [name]Alexa[/name]–very pretty. [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Anastasia[/name] or [name]Amelia[/name]/[name]Emilia[/name]? [name]Just[/name] some other options to think about!
Best,
L.

yeah, unfortunately I think I have to cut the name annabelle (and any belle names) from my list. Had the nn problem and the same name problem.

[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Sienna[/name]. It is one of my favorite names! It also goes very well with [name]Gabriella[/name].
Definite plus that your DH likes it!! Also, as a nn, what about [name]Enna[/name]? I think it’s quite endearing!
[name]Sienna[/name] [name]Juliette[/name]/[name]Juliet[/name] is a beautiful choice, [name]IMO[/name]!!!

cool thanks!

I love [name]Sienna[/name] [name]Juliette[/name]! That is beautiful, I think you might have a winner! I would never even think to call a [name]Sienna[/name] “Ce-Ce”, so I don’t think you have to worry about that. You can certainly call her Ennabelle without the middle name [name]Belle[/name], too!

thanks for all the advice so far!

[name]Just[/name] wanted to thank you all! Now I think we finally have a name , for safe keeping ;)…until and if we ever get to use it.

Thanks!

[name]Siena[/name] is a Beautiful name! I’m glad you have chosen it over a '[name]Belle[/name] name. My best friend’s name is [name]Maxine[/name] and has the nn ‘Seeni’ or ‘Seens’, I dont think that’s too far off from [name]Siena[/name]. WDYT?
