Dilemma, can't agree!

DP and I can’t agree on a first name for a girl. The middle name will be [name_u]Jean[/name_u]. We want the first name to be outside the top 500 at least. Here are the top names so far.

[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]: DP loves the name [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is too short, so I suggested [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] and DP loves it. I like it too, but it looks a little too long and formal. She would probably be called [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] a lot of the time by DP though, which I am not a huge fan of as those names are so popular.

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]: I really love the name [name_f]Ada[/name_f], but DP doesn’t. I brought this one up and DP likes it though. I don’t really like the sound of the full name, but I love the nickname [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. Unfortunately, DP wants to call [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] by her full name though, and I just don’t like the full name too much.

[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]: DP likes this name and I used to love this name, but now it sounds too much like [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f], which I don’t like. I like the nicknames [name_f]Susie[/name_f] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f]/[name_f]Annie[/name_f], but not [name_f]Sue[/name_f] or [name_f]Susan[/name_f].

[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]: I love the sound of this name and DP does too, but I fear the love may be short lived as I can’t think of any nicknames. [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is so pretty though.

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]: Not really a top name as DP doesn’t like it, but my favorite name ever. I really wish we could use it because I love [name_u]Lou[/name_u] as a pet name and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] feels strong, feminine, and is outside the top 500. I also like [name_f]Louise[/name_f], but DP doesn’t like that one either. DP does like [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] though, so that could be a compromise, but it feels too popular

[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]: We really need a good nickname to solidify this name. Not [name_m]Augie[/name_m], [name_u]Gussie[/name_u], or [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] though, so I don’t think there is one.

[name_f]Celia[/name_f]: DP and I both don’t hate this name, but neither of us love it. I don’t really like [name_f]Cece[/name_f] and it reminds me of Celiac’s, but DP likes it more than me. It just feels like a compromise name for both of us though and we probably won’t use it without a big change of heart from one of us.

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]: Not really a top name as DP doesn’t like it, but my favorite name ever. I really wish we could use it because I love [name_u]Lou[/name_u] as a pet name and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] feels strong, feminine, and is outside the top 500. I also like [name_f]Louise[/name_f], but DP doesn’t like that one either.

[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]/[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]/[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] “[name_f]Beth[/name_f]”/[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]: We both like these names but not enough to use them as they are way to popular.

Sorry for the long post, but is there anything you can say to help me love any of these names or any new suggestions?

[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is cute with [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] as a nickname. [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is adorable, and I love [name_f]Suzi[/name_f] as a nickname–another nickname I like for [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f], although I know that’s not everyone’s favorite.

[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] is my favorite girl’s name ever, and I plan to name my future daughter [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (similar to [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]). At first I was struggling with nicknames for it too, but I did a thread today and some people replied with some good nicknames to use for it. My favorites are Reli (pronounced like [name_u]Ray[/name_u]-lee) and [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] (based off of the meaning of [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], which is “golden”).

Maybe [name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f] which is a little less formal than [name_f]Rosemund[/name_f]?

Maybe [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] instead of Cecila?

I love both [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] with the middle name.
I love [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]. Possible nicknames: [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] (swoon!), [name_f]Aura[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f]

So I want to start by saying that I love love love [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] but have to admit something doesn’t feel quite right about [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]? I can’t put my finger on it exactly.

[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is so fantastic, but if it’s too similar to a name you dislike I understand not choosing it. Maybe [name_f]Susette[/name_f]? Seconding [name_f]Sookie[/name_f] ([name_f]Suki[/name_f] spelling is fine too but keep in mind that’s an actual Japanese name and not technically a diminutive of [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] or other Sus- names) and [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f], and [name_f]Susie[/name_f] is quite cute too.

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is darling but if you don’t love the full name at least as much as the nickname and vice versa, I wouldn’t use it.

With [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] the nickname [name_f]Aura[/name_f] came to mind pretty immediately. This one feels like a really solid option for you!

It’s really too bad about [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] because [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is a stylistic dream team. [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] isn’t actually too dreadfully popular (#190 in 2017) but it does blend in with all the trendy [name_f]El[/name_f]- names which makes it feel even more popular. But an [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] called [name_u]Lou[/name_u] would definitely stand apart from a playground full of Ellies.

[name_f]Augusta[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is so full of spunk but I can see the dilemma with finding a nickname you like. Maybe like [name_f]Asta[/name_f] (ah-stah), [name_f]Este[/name_f], or [name_f]Etta[/name_f] could work? While they stretch the ticket a bit I think they work sound wise.

I think [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] seems the best option! There’s great nickname possibilities so you can both choose a fav. [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] is great nn which hasn’t already been mentioned.
I understand your concern with it being similar to a name you don’t like, I was thinking the same with [name_f]Olive[/name_f] when pregnant (as I don’t like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]). I still used it, they are their own stand alone names :slight_smile:
