So I have found a name that I am absolutely in love with! It’s the same feeling I got when we picked our sons name, but now I’m having second thoughts. I still love the name, the only issue is our last name is a common word, [name]Friend[/name]
Eirlys (AYR-liss) means [name]Snowdrop[/name] in Welsh. If our first had been a girl we had [name]Snow[/name] picked out, but have since dropped it from the list. I love that it shares that meaning, and it’s also an acronym for the grandmothers in it’s own way.
Eirlys [name]Mairead[/name] (Sounds like Parade) [name]Friend[/name], [name]Mairead[/name] being an acronym of the great grandmothers and another meaning for [name]Margaret[/name], one of their names.
Ok, now, here’s my issue. It kinda sounds like “Airless [name]Friend[/name]”… I don’t even think Airless is a term used, you’d phrase it differently? But do you think that would be an issue? [name]Friend[/name] without [name]Air[/name]? That doesn’t even make sense…
well airhead is a common term used… and that can be easily derived from the name, if it was me I wouldn’t since I’m such a worrier and cautious person…
I feel your worry. Our last name is [name]Eddie[/name], which is tricky. When I was thinking of boys names, I fell in love with [name]Harrison[/name] for a minute, nn [name]Harry[/name] and then put it with our last name, [name]Harry[/name] [name]Eddie[/name]…Hairy [name]Eddie[/name]. Ugh! It’s hard when names take on the adjective/noun combo.
For you, with a noun as a last name (love your ln btw), I think you need to be careful. While Eirlys is a beautiful name and I love the meaning for you, Airless [name]Friend[/name] is odd. But, as I’m tossing the name in my head, Eirlys [name]Friend[/name], and part of me thinks it okay and part of me thinks, no. Would you do a nn? [name]Ari[/name]? [name]Lissie[/name]?
Catlover- I hadn’t even thought of the word “Airhead”. While it’s similar, it’s doesn’t sound the same or contain the same letters. That one I’m not overly worried about. More the phonetic sound really.
Juniperle- There are so many good names we can’t use! It drives me nuts haha! My best friends ln was [name]Eddie[/name] actually, and she’s part of the reason I like this name. She passed on when she was 17, but her name was [name]Elizabeth[/name] nn was [name]Liz[/name] or [name]Lizzy[/name]. I was thinking of honoring her with the [name]Lissie[/name] nn, but incorporating some of the middle into a conjoined “[name]Lissie[/name]-[name]Mae[/name]” So to family she’ll be [name]Lissie[/name]-[name]Mae[/name] or just [name]Lissie[/name]. [name]Erin[/name] is my sisters name, so Eirlys works on so many levels it’s crazy! But I think I’m just one to second guess a name no matter what
Our sons name is [name]Archer[/name] and after we named him I realized, “[name]Archer[/name] [name]Friend[/name]… [name]Aren[/name]'t Your [name]Friend[/name]” OMG [name]HOW[/name] MEAN! But no one’s made that connection. He just gets called [name]Arthur[/name] or Orchard sometimes haha
