Discussion on names for my baby girl?

I’m in my third trimester with my second daughter and I’m on my own as far as picking names so I don’t have anyone to bounce my ideas off. I’m just wanting to hear thoughts. Not just “I like that/don’t like that” but maybe what it makes you think of.

[name_f]Viola[/name_f] (both vee ol la and vy ol la - I like both)
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (I love it in theory but I’m not sure about on a real child - I do love the nickname [name_u]Josie[/name_u])
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] (thinking about doing [name_f]Elise[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], cause [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is a little too nicknamey for a stand-alone…)
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f] (Same thoughts as [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], love the nn [name_f]Marcie[/name_f]. Also it would be alliteration with last name and meh)
[name_f]Colette[/name_f]

Other names I like a lot:
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]

None of these feel right. I don’t even mind waiting until she’s born to pick one but I wish I had stronger feelings about at least one name.

Congratulations!

I really love the sound of [name_f]Viola[/name_f] (vy-ol-la) it has a very old fashioned yet modern sound if that makes any sense at all! I think it also works beautifully as it’s something she could easily grow into and it won’t seem too childish or too mature for when she’s younger, especially with some nicknames given!
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] is not my favourite personally but I do adore the nickname [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]!
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is actually one of my favourite girl names so I love it. I think it would work great for a child personally, especially since it’s not so common it will be her own name and there’s lots of options for nicknames when it comes to [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]… [name_u]Jo[/name_u], [name_u]Josie[/name_u] and JoJo for example, that she could use during her younger years and still use as an adult. I really do love the name though!
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] is another favourite of mine, I think it just has such an elegance to it. It’s simple and just reminds me of a beautiful girl who’s in love with life. I also like how it’s a classic name everyone knows but isn’t so common or overly used!
I agree with you that [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] works better as a nickname, it’s not my favourite for a first name but I still think it’s really sweet!
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f] personally is another one I’m not the biggest fan of. I just associate it with older generations and don’t see it fitting a child that well.
[name_f]Colette[/name_f] is another name that just has that sense of elegance and maybe maturity to it. That’s probably because it’s a [name_u]French[/name_u] name and the ette ending is so pretty. I feel that it could work for both a child and adult. I also like how it’s not such a common name you hear nowadays, I think it would really have your daughter stand apart from others!

I personally love the names [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], I think [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] would probably work a little better for a child and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is more suited for an adult but with nicknames I think they would fit anyone of any age. They’re such pretty and timeless names! Eliza, [name_f]Genevieve,[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] are not my absolute favourites personally but I do think that having [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] could really bring a modern 2020 twist to the classic name! I love the name [name_f]Julia[/name_f], it’s my name, so I may be a tad biased. In all honesty though, I think it such a sweet name that is common but not too common to the point where you hear it all the time. I’ve only ever met a few other [name_f]Julia[/name_f]'s but every one has loved their name. It has an “old timey” feel but also is quite modernized I think, if that makes sense. There’s also a lot of different nicknames with [name_f]Julia[/name_f] that I personally have been called since I was a child into my adulthood and I’ve never felt babied by any of them! So I like it but once again this may come off as biased but I think it personally is a beautiful name!

It may help to bounce your thoughts off of your first daughters name to see if you want more similar names or something completely different! Regardless I’m sure you’ll choose a lovely name for your baby girl! Congratulations again

I hope this helped! If not I’d be more than happy to send some suggestions!

First of all, you have a great list! Here are some thoughts on each name:

[name_f]Viola[/name_f]–I think of the instrument and the character from the kids’ book Miss [name_m]Nelson[/name_m] is Missing (the latter is probably just me, lol). I’ll be honest, this one is not my favorite–for some reason it feels a little old-lady-ish to me. But on the other hand, I can see it fitting right in with the Violets and Islas and Vivians of 2020, while still feeling a little different!
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]–This one is very pretty, although I prefer [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] feels a little bit lighter and fresher to me–totally just personal preference though. Either way I like the nature connection and the fact that it doesn’t feel overused.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]–Totally with you that [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is an adorable nickname. I think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] could work on a real child, especially with a nickname like [name_u]Josie[/name_u]. I like it best paired with a light, fun middle. Also, for what it’s worth, I like [name_u]Josie[/name_u] all by itself if you’re open to that!
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]–[name_f]Elise[/name_f] gives off a gentle strength that I just love. It feels soft yet strong, simple but very pretty. And it’s timeless. I can picture it on any age, from a tiny baby to an old lady and everything in between. I’m a fan!
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]–I actually love [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] all by itself, I think it has enough substance to stand alone. To me it feels sweet and energetic. As much as I love [name_f]Elise[/name_f], it almost sounds too similar to [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] to me for them to be a full name-nickname pair. But that’s 100% just personal preference, it could totally work! I also like [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] as a nickname for pretty much any other “[name_f]El[/name_f]” name ([name_f]Eloise[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] would be adorable!). Or you could even to L. C. initials and call her [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f]–I’m not the biggest fan of this one personally, I’m sorry. It has a very pretty sound, it just feels maybe a little bit dated? I can’t quite put my finger on it. That said, I’m sure if I met a baby named [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] my opinion would change quickly. I do think [name_f]Marcie[/name_f] is a cute nickname! And I like how the name overall is familiar but underused.
[name_f]Colette[/name_f]–[name_f]Colette[/name_f] has been growing on me! That “ette” ending is kind of irresistible. And I like how [name_f]Colette[/name_f] is well-known but feels a little bit unexpected. A winner in my book! From a flow perspective, I also think it makes a great middle for a lot of first names (kind of like the rhythm of [name_u]Marie[/name_u], but something a little bit different).
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]–[name_u]Love[/name_u] love love. Simple, sweet, strong, and I like the nature connection. The only downside is it’s quite popular these days–but honestly, that wouldn’t sway me. Someone on here suggested [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] nn [name_f]Zelie[/name_f] to me and I love that, too!
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]–I like the “rosy” imagery of this one–and the nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], for that matter! [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] to me feels gently vintage but totally current, which I love.
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]–Energetic, pretty, strong, vintage-but-modern–[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] feels like a total sweet-spot name to me. I have a couple of song associations with this one but otherwise mostly think of real people I know with the name. I will say I know five people my age with this name, but I think that might be region and age specific. I don’t know any little kids named [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]!
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]–A lovely, can’t-go-wrong classic that I can picture on any age and any type of girl. I don’t have a specific association with this one other than a couple of people I know with the name (all ages except not super young or super old).
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]–This one almost feels a little “sharp” to me. I do think the nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f] for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] would be adorable though! And I know a lot of people love this name.
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]–Pretty and unexpected. Not my personal favorite from your list, but it’s also not super familiar to me, and each time I’ve seen it recently it’s grown on me a little! I love @julianicole5’s idea of [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as a fun modern nn.

Also 100% agree with this:

I hope this helps!

[name_f]Viola[/name_f] (both vee ol la and vy ol la - I like both) - love [name_f]Viola[/name_f] - literary, floral and elegant

Sylvia - sleek and stylish - beautiful name

Josephine - would just [name_u]Josie[/name_u] work? I think [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is cute yet versatile and could stand alone

Elise - [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is sweet and gentle

Elsie - I think this stands a lone. It could also be a nickname for [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], [name_f]Elissa[/name_f] or [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]

Marcella -a bold choice but it has a sweet charming grandeur. But it doesn’t seem like it’s the one for you. You might like [name_f]Luella[/name_f]

Colette

  • swish and international feeling

Hazel - earthy and gentle

Rosalie - frilly and floral in a good way

Julia - a little lacklustre imo

Eliza - funky and stylish

Genevieve - lyrical and lovely

Leonora - bold and beautiful

I love [name_f]Viola[/name_f] (vee-ol-a)! I think about the flower and the instrument, both of which are great associations. I like the nickname [name_u]Josie[/name_u], but I agree that [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is a little hard to picture on a real child. I don’t get the feeling you’re super sure about [name_f]Marcella[/name_f], so don’t go for it, find one that you really love. [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] is just not my favorite thing- what about [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m]? [name_f]Elise[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is great! [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is definitely sophisticated enough to balance the cute [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. [name_f]Colette[/name_f] is nice, too- much better than [name_f]Nicole[/name_f]! I love some of your ‘other’ names- [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] (rose-uh-lee), [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] are super great! [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] might be a little grown-up, but I guess the nickname [name_f]Gen[/name_f] could work. I think that [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] could work for any age, but [name_f]Rose[/name_f]/Rosie would be a cute nickname (I prefer [name_f]Rosy[/name_f], actually). And [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]- that’s universal. Other names you might like are [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f] (rose-uh-leen), [name_f]Aveline[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], and [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f].

I’m here to give some love to [name_f]Viola[/name_f]- ve or vy.

It feels like a fresher take on the more common/ expected [name_f]Violet[/name_f].

It has some awesome nn options to suit a women of all ages- [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f] for a small child through to [name_f]Vi[/name_f] (v-eye) as an adult as well as being short enough to use in its full form easily.

Pronounced either ve or vy- the difference isn’t great enough to be annoying if people say it the wrong way after seeing written.

Is familiar but far from over used. She will fit in well with all the other little girls with vintage pretty names but will still stand out and shine- I don’t think she’ll ever have to share her name with anyone else in her class, even though the vibe fits in perfectly.

It is a cheery, upbeat name with a lilt that makes you think of someone happy.

Congratulations!

[name_f]Viola[/name_f] ~ it’s a pretty name with a nice summery vibe it’s a pretty choice and feels like a cute twist on [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] & [name_f]Violet[/name_f].

[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] ~ this is another lovely vintage choice it’s a great name with a cool spunky meaning.

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] ~ I love this name it’s really elegant and the nickname [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is very endearing. I think she sounds great.

[name_f]Elise[/name_f] - a sweet classy choice with a nice European flair.

[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] - this feels like very fashionable and fits in with all the nickname names that are super popular in the UK such as [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] definitely works but not a favourite of mine I just think the other names on your list are prettier.

[name_f]Marcella[/name_f] ~ I can see the appeal has a pretty vintage vibe she is elegant but isn’t a favourite also not keen on [name_f]Marcie[/name_f].

[name_f]Colette[/name_f] ~ a beautiful name with a gorgeous [name_u]French[/name_u] vibe. It’s feels unusual yet completely recognisable. I also like the coco nickname.

I also love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] & [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]. It’s honestly such a hard choice! But I think as you have your tops names to help you narrow down your choice further I would stick to the names you specifically asked for comments on. From those names my favourites are [name_f]Colette[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] & [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] :purple_heart:

My favorites are [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. Both are feminine and somewhat old-school but possess a particular strength of character and image.

Julia, [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] are beautiful, timeless, and classic. I also love [name_f]Colette[/name_f] and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]( if the nn was something other than [name_f]Jen[/name_f]). I’ve never warmed up to [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] and downright dislike [name_f]Hazel[/name_f].
Which leads me to [name_f]Marcella[/name_f]. It’s a bit of an outlier on your list, but I think it’s really fun and unexpected. Would you consider the nn Cel instead of [name_f]Marcie[/name_f]? I once knew someone named [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] nn Cel and she wore it extremely well.

[name_f]Viola[/name_f]: I love the name [name_f]Viola[/name_f]. It makes me think of a pretty purple color and classical music.
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]: I like the name [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] as well, but it’s not my favorite. It make me think of cars for some reason, not entirely sure why.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: I like the name [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and the nickname [name_u]Jo[/name_u]. It reminds me of one of my favorite characters from a TV show.
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]/Elsie: I love this name and variations of it. [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is probably my favorite form and I don’t think it’s too nicknamey at all. It would be cute as a nickname for [name_f]Elise[/name_f]! [name_f]Elise[/name_f] feels like a more mature name so you could call her [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] when she’s little and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] when she’s older.
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f]: This name seems a bit outdated to me. That may be because I used to live in an apartment building named “The [name_f]Marcella[/name_f]” and it was very old.
[name_f]Colette[/name_f]: I like this name. The only issue I have is that I can’t think of a cute nickname for it. It seems like a very summery name to me.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]: This is one of my favorites. It makes me think of a cozy [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] morning with a warm cup of coffee. I love nature names too so that’s a plus for it.
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]: I love this name and the nicknames it comes with. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] seems to common as a full name, but as a nickname for [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] it’s perfect. No surprise that this name makes me think of a warm pink color!
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]: I’m a bit biased because this is my mother’s name, but I absolutely love it. Seems very short and sweet.
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]: I like this name and the nickname [name_f]Liza[/name_f]. It’s a spunky name but elegant at the same time.
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]: I’ve never been a fan of this name, although it does make me think of ballerinas for some reason. It just seems very old fashioned and like it’s a mouthful to say.
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]: I’ve never heard this name before but I think I like it. I like the idea of a feminine version of the name “[name_m]Leo[/name_m]”. The name makes me think of lions for obvious reasons. Though I like it, it does sound a bit old as well.

Names I might suggest:
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
Ellowen
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] (could use [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] as a nickname here)
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] or [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] (nickname [name_f]Ada[/name_f])
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u] (love the nickname [name_u]Pip[/name_u])
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] (nickname [name_f]Lucy[/name_f])
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (nickname [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] or [name_f]Lottie[/name_f])
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] (nickname [name_f]Mira[/name_f] or [name_f]Belle[/name_f])
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f] (nickname [name_f]Cami[/name_f] or [name_f]Mila[/name_f])
[name_f]Maia[/name_f]
[name_u]Kaya[/name_u]
[name_f]Gianna[/name_f] (nickname [name_f]Gia[/name_f] or [name_f]Gigi[/name_f])
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Leah[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

Here are my thoughts-

[name_f]Viola[/name_f]-I think that this getting constantly mispronounced could get annoying. And I’m not a huge fan of it. I appreciate that it’s vintage & unique, but it just reminds me of a fussy old lady.

[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]-[name_f]Lovely[/name_f]! Very smart & pretty. Old fashioned, kind, feminine yet not too frilly. And the nn [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is darling & a little pixie-ish.

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]-Ooh, I love this too. It’s smart & classic. And the nn [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is cute & approachable.

[name_f]Elise[/name_f]-This one doesn’t excite me that much. It’s a little abrupt sounding. Like it’s missing something.

[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]-[name_f]Elise[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] seems a bit awkward to me. I love [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] though. It’s like a sweet old lady as opposed to a rude one. It just has a kind pleasant sound. I love it as a nn for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], but [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is also good.

[name_f]Marcella[/name_f]-I’m not into this one. It’s kind of too dramatic, & [name_f]Marcie[/name_f] sounds snobby to me.

[name_f]Colette[/name_f]-Ooh, that’s nice. A bit exotic yet simple & friendly.

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]-I like this okay. It’s getting really popular though, which makes it lose its charm.

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]-I’m really crushing in this one lately. I love the sing song-y sound & feeling. It’s just friendly, classic.& lovable.

[name_f]Julia[/name_f]-I used to love this name, but I just kind of burned out on it. There’s nothing wrong w/it. I want to like it. It’s smart & feminine w/out being too much.

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]-Cute. It’s spunky & has some Southern charm. It’s simple, well known yet not over done, & grows up well. I like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] too.

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]-I’m not way into this one, but it’s not bad. [name_m]Just[/name_m] kind of prissy sounding almost? I like the nns [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f] & [name_f]Vivie[/name_f] though.

[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]-I really quite like [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] & [name_f]Leora[/name_f], so you’d think that I like this. But I just don’t care for it. It sounds kind of dark for some reason. It’s not bad though. [name_m]Just[/name_m] trying to give you my detailed reasoning!

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

I like [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], and [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] a lot!

Maybe:
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]
[name_u]Marion[/name_u]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Nellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]

Based on your likes:
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]
[name_f]Josceline[/name_f]
Marlyse
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u]
[name_u]Darcey[/name_u]
[name_f]Raizel[/name_f]
[name_f]Alia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marcia[/name_f]
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f]

It’s honestly my favorite on my list, but I cant decide which pronunciation I would use. Originally I preferred Vee, now it’s close to 50/50.

I love your list of ideas. I will say without knowing your first daughters name it’s hard to “pick a winner”. Maybe that was intended so it doesn’t become theme-y? Anywho, the standouts for me are [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and possibly [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] (I keep going back and forth). If you’re already being thrown off by alliteration I’d nix [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] .

[name_f]My[/name_f] only thing I’d say is that you seem to be going for names with a love for the Ideal nicknames ([name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Marcie[/name_f]). However I think each nickname has stand alone potential in itself. And I’m not just saying that as I know a [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and [name_f]Marcie[/name_f] (spelled [name_f]Marcey[/name_f]). And with the originals I don’t necessarily see the ideal nickname being the default- especially with [name_f]Elise[/name_f]- I don’t see anyone getting [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] as the nn for that since they’re pretty much the same name. More like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] as nn for either [name_f]Elise[/name_f] or [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is likely. And [name_f]Ella[/name_f] would be a likely contender for [name_f]Marcella[/name_f]. I will add since I haven’t seen it mentioned as nickname potential, I do have a friend named Genevieve who for the longest time went by Gennie (pronounced identical to Jenny) only when she hit her 30’s did she outgrow it and request everyone call her by her full name.

Viola is a girly name. When I hear the name, I think of a little cute girl, but I think the name is also perfect for a strong women. The symbol (the flower) of the name is also very pretty.

Viola- I think this is a great choice. I can totally picture a little girl named [name_f]Viola[/name_f]. It sounds fresh and young but I think it would age well too. Very sweet and I like “V” as a nickname. I would go with vee ol la. It makes me think of the instrument but that’s a good association.
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]- This is definitely a grandma name. Usually I like those, but not this one. I think it reminds me of “saliva”. But I don’t think most people are thinking that. If you like it, use it.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]- When I was a kid I was always jealous of these kind of names. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is long and beautiful and the nickname works so well. This is definitely my favorite out of your list. I think it would work great on a real child! I wouldn’t worry too much about that if you really love it. [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is adorable.
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]- Simple and elegant. [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is a great nickname but I don’t know if everyone will use it for [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. It’s a little weird that the only difference is switching a couple of letters. Personally I don’t get the point of nicknames unless they are genuinely shorter than the original. I knew an [name_f]Elise[/name_f] in high school and she just went by [name_f]Elise[/name_f].
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f]- Eh. I like [name_f]Marcie[/name_f] but not this formal version. I’m not a big fan of alliteration either so I see the concern. Maybe something like Marcine would be better. This version reminds me a little bit of [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] from Friends.
[name_f]Colette[/name_f]- This is a beautiful name but I’m wondering if you might like something else that’s pretty similar. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Cosette[/name_f]? It means “little thing”. You could call her Cosy as a nickname! I think it’s very sweet.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]- Timeless and classic. This is the kind of name that ages really well. I like it.
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]- I love it! Especially considering you could call her [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] or even [name_f]Posie[/name_f] as a nickname. I could see this as a great middle too.
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]- This has a really nice sound but I’m not crazy about it. It makes me think of a popular girl.
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]- I love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. This one is on my list too. I think of [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m] when I hear it but I actually really like that association.
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]- Very pretty in its long form but it doesn’t have the best nicknames. Nothing like [name_u]Josie[/name_u] or [name_f]Marcie[/name_f]. Otherwise it’s a gorgeous name! I would maybe suggest adding [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] to your list. It’s similar but you could use [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] as a nickname. Maybe you’d also like [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]?
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]- Not my style but I see the appeal. [name_f]My[/name_f] first reaction is that it sounds a little made up. It sounds to me like a variation of [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] or [name_f]Lenore[/name_f]. I will admit, while I’m a fan of classic names that this does flow pretty well. Maybe you’d also like [name_f]Linnea[/name_f]. I believe it’s a flower name. You could shorten that to [name_f]Lin[/name_f] or [name_f]Linnie[/name_f] (or other spellings like [name_u]Lynn[/name_u], [name_u]Lyn[/name_u], Lynnie).

Overall it’s a gorgeous list. They’re all great choices but my favorites are [name_f]Viola[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Josie[/name_u]).

My other suggestions include [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]), [name_f]Edith[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Edie[/name_f]), [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]), [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]), [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Libby[/name_f] or [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]), and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]. Good luck and congradulations!
