I’ve met a lot of [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]'s and [name_f]Belle[/name_f]'s in my life time and not once have I thought “Disney princess” when hearing them.
My eldest went to nursery with a [name_f]Tianna[/name_f] and Disney didn’t occur to me then either.
Considering your daughter is older than the movie i doubt people will connect the dots either Unless of course you have psychic powers!
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is such a beautiful name, I can see why they would want to use it. I think you will be surprised how few people will actually make that connection. [name_m]Just[/name_m] remind your daughter that you chose her name special for her
Although [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is the snow queen, she won’t be the actual main character of the movie-- from the trailer, it looks like her sister, [name_f]Anna[/name_f], is going to be in the spotlight most of the time.
It will be OK. Something similar happened to me. We named our daughter [name_f]Adele[/name_f] about 6 months before the singer [name_f]Adele[/name_f] came to the US. Now people ask, “Did you name her after the singer?” and the name is climbing in popularity (it wasn’t even in the top 1,000 when we named her). It is annoying, but it’s not horrible. Sharing a name with a princess and famous singer is a lot better than sharing it with a villian or notorious criminal. [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is a lovely name, too.
I can’t speak for every kid, but my 2 and 4 year old nieces would be delighted to have a princess share their name, especially if it were one they could meet in person at Disneyland. They’ve got a new little sister on the way and the names they’re most obsessed with are [name_f]Belle[/name_f], [name_f]Merida[/name_f], and [name_f]Tiana[/name_f]. [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is a gorgeous name, i can see why they picked it. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if she isn’t into the movie/princess, the other kids will probably think her name is awesome
First of all, [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is such a lovely name, it’s no wonder Disney picked it Second of all, I had no idea there was another princess coming, and I have two daughters who [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] princesses. I don’t think [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] will ever be that big of a deal- but she’ll probably be big enough to make your [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] excited while she’s young. The name [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] has so much history beyond Disney, it’s not like you named her [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f]
Oh, and to add, they’re using a fair bit of great names in the movie! [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_m]Olaf[/name_m], [name_m]Sven[/name_m], [name_m]Hans[/name_m], [name_m]Kristoff[/name_m], Oaken, & Sitron are the “good guys.” (I googled the movie)
I completely understand your annoyance and fear (I have issues with the problematic disney “princess ideal” and a lot of the tacky disney branding - sorry to be a culture snob)…but I think [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is a lovely name that can stand on it’s own history and provenance.
