Disposable Diapers

You cloth diapering moms and dads have my respect, but we’re going to use disposables. I was wondering what the best way is to buy them. That may seem like a stupid question, but I’m looking to save the most money of course. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you use a site like diapers.com? Coupons? Warehouse stores? I’ve also heard Target brand diapers are pretty great once the baby is a little bigger. Or is do you just watch for sales and buy in the store as needed?

What’s your favorite brand?

My favorite diapers were pampers swaddlers until our daughter started moving around a lot, and then huggies little movers when she, well, started moving. We didn’t mind Target brand diapers. We could not stand Luvs, they were so wide and short when she was small. Diapers are something that I don’t mind splurging on because you can definitely tell a difference in quality. Last time around we got a lot of coupons for pampers and huggies, I am not even sure where they came from. Also, Target online coupons has them sometimes as well. Sorry, I’m not much help in the saving money department, but when Target clearances their name brand diapers we buy a bunch. Already have started our collection! Also, we prefer Target wipes to all name brands. And they can clean ANYTHING.

I work in a daycare centre with little ones age 16 months to 23 months - all of the children are still in diapers, and, oddly enough, they ALL use different brands, haha. I find that the Pampers or Huggies seem to be the best for them, but the [name_m]Wal[/name_m]-[name_u]Mart[/name_u] brand ones don’t seem too bad.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you live in the US? If you do, [b]this[/b] is a link to Coupon.com’s [name_u]Baby[/name_u]&Toddler section. You’ll find quite a few coupons there for diapers, wipes, and various other things haha. Also, if you get coupon inserts in your newspaper, every few months they switch up the coupons, and I’m constantly finding Pampers ones.

I hope this helps

We mostly cloth diaper but use disposables for trips. We had a horrible experience with Pampers every time my son pooped it went up the back and when he was first born at 8 lbs 7oz he already was pass the point that he could really use the newborn sized diapers from the hospital he leaked a lot in those if he wasn’t changed hourly. So my advice to you is that it’s hard to predict which diapers work for your child since different children fit in diapers differently. I strongly recommend that if you buy in advance during sales and whatnot then you’ll want to save the receipts so you can return them and exchange them for other brands or sizes.

We do cloth diapers during the day but use disposables at night and when we go on vacation. We started out buying the Pampers [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Dry (which are supposed to be for overnights) but then tried the Target and honestly did not see a difference, so we stuck with the Target ones since they were significantly cheaper.

The Target brand come out to something like 15 cents a diaper, which is the best I have found, cost-wise. We tried the Kroger generic and those were awful- just leaked right through. We used the Walmart generic for a few days on a trip once, they were okay, but we liked the Target better. The baby I watch uses the Costco generic ones, they are fine (though I do not have him overnight, so I don’t know how they hold up for that.)

You might be able to beat 15 cents a diaper by stacking coupons and watching for sales. I am not good at keeping up with all of that, so I prefer a consistently cheap brand. See if you can get samples out of any of the big companies, too- sometimes if you sign up for their mailing list (start a free email account just for baby sample stuff) they will send you free diapers to try out. If you end up with too many in a given size, you can always donate them. WIC offices will take them, among other places.

I like Pampers Swaddlers for the brand-new baby stage, then once they’re in size 2 or 3 it’s much more economical to go with the Kirkland (Costco) or [name_m]Wal[/name_m]-mart kind. The “blowout” poops that a newborn has seem to be less frequent with the Swaddlers than with the cheaper kind, but as the kid gets older and more mobile (sizes 3 and up), you’ve got gravity on your side a little bit more and you can go with the cheaper ones.

It’s also helpful (if a bit more expensive per diaper) to go up a size if you’re having leaks and blowout issues. That way, there’s somewhere for the poop to go, besides up the child’s back.

Thanks all. Being new at this, I wasn’t sure if I was missing out on some insider mom secret.
