Distinctive but old name for baby #3

We are expecting around Thanksgiving and I’ve convinced my husband to let the gender be a surprise this time. Our last name is long and Italian, sounds a little like “DelTonio”

Our daughter is Sylvya [name]Vyolet[/name]
Our son is [name]Myles[/name] [name]Julyan[/name]
(all ys are i’s but I didn’t want the names to be searchable)

Girls - so many lovely names but I cannot find the best ones
[name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name] - too matchy with [name]Silvie[/name]? husbands favorite
[name]Clara[/name] / [name]Mira[/name]/ [name]Nina[/name]- should I be looking for a different ending than [name]Silvia[/name]? This is our last baby and I love names.
[name]Lila[/name] - too similar in sound?
[name]Josephine[/name] - lots of love around here for this name, and we have lots of Josephs in the family
[name]Evelyn[/name] - too popular

Boys:
[name]Linus[/name] - too baby blanket?
[name]Calvin[/name] - [name]Cal[/name] and [name]Dal[/name] sounds in our last name - do they work?
[name]Pascal[/name] - [name]Cal[/name] and [name]Dal[/name] sound in our last name
[name]Lucas[/name] - popular
[name]Leo[/name] - we almost named [name]Miles[/name] this, but we weren’t sure about first name and last name ending in o. And [name]Leon[/name] just isn’t the same.
[name]Jay[/name] - I love love, but my husband doesn’t
[name]Xavier[/name] - does anyone have a [name]Xavier[/name]? is pronunciation ever an issue? I like both Ex-ay-veer and Za-vee-air
[name]Clive[/name] - another one of my name crushes, but maybe doesn’t quite match our last name and our other children’s names.

[name]Flora[/name] is so beautiful! [name]One[/name] of my best friends is named [name]Flora[/name] and she is just lovely, she really embodies her name. It also goes incredibly well with [name]Silvie[/name], I think. Not too matchy at all (:

I like [name]Leo[/name] and there are dozens of forms of it! [name]Leonardo[/name] and [name]Leopold[/name] are rather cute and romantic! I also think [name]Linus[/name] is quite cute but I do immediately think of the Peanuts gang, not that it’s a bad thing.

Good luck!

With [name]Silvia[/name] and [name]Miles[/name], I love [name]Clara[/name] or [name]Leo[/name] for the third sibling. Stylistically they feel like the best matches. I could see [name]Calvin[/name] working as well.

[name]Flora[/name] and Clavin are my favorites from your list. [name]Both[/name] are charming choices with your other two kiddies.

I really like [name]Florence[/name] for you. It matches [name]Silvia[/name] in style in the sense that both names are sweet, vintage classics. They’re not close phonetically so each girl would have a distinctive name. They’re connected in meaning-- [name]Silvia[/name] means “of the forest” and [name]Florence[/name] meaning “flowering,” so both are nature-related. And [name]Florence[/name] is of course one of Italys grandest cities, without sounding cartoonishly Italian.

For the boys, I would avoid anything ending with O. I like [name]Xavier[/name] best of your list. You could also select any name beginning with J and call him ‘[name]Jay[/name],’ if you like.

[name]Florence[/name] is my favorite for a girl, as it matches [name]Silvia[/name] and [name]Miles[/name] stylistically, but doesn’t actually sounds anything like them. I love the connection to [name]Italy[/name], it seems to work well with the surname, and I also just happen to love that name most from your list anyway. [name]Clara[/name] would be my second choice.

For boys, I do love [name]Leo[/name], and it works well with your kiddos’ names, but I’m not sure about it with your surname. I’m not a fan of [name]Calvin[/name] due to the meaning, I do find [name]Lucas[/name] too common (internationally, not just in the US) and [name]Clive[/name] and [name]Jay[/name] seem not quite retro enough to be hip yet. That leaves [name]Linus[/name] (which I actually sort of love but doubt I’d ever have to guts to use; I did meet a baby [name]Linus[/name] recently and it totally worked) and [name]Xavier[/name], which I am also unsure about.

So, [name]Florence[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] (it just works), [name]Linus[/name] (and [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Xavier[/name] with reservations?).

[name]Silvia[/name], [name]Miles[/name] &…

Girls -
[name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]

Boys:
[name]Linus[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]

I love [name]Clara[/name], [name]Flora[/name] and [name]Leo[/name]

With Sylvya and [name]Myles[/name], I think these names are stylistically compatible.

Girl

[name]Florence[/name] (my fave)
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]

Boy

[name]Calvin[/name] (if you’re going to give him the nn [name]Cal[/name] then perhaps it’s not the best choice. If you’re using the full name [name]Calvin[/name], I think it’s fine).
[name]Leo[/name] (fn and surname ending in “o” never hurt [name]Leonardo[/name] diCaprio)
[name]Xavier[/name] - “Zay-vee-ur” is the only way I pronounce it (the “x” is a “z”).

Thank you all for getting back to me! Lots of good replies here.

I like [name]Florence[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Xavier[/name].

You may consider…

[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Louise[/name]
[name]Marjorie[/name]
[name]Margo[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]

[name]Lucian[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Philip[/name]

I love [name]Flora[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] with your others. [name]Flora[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]? [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Florence[/name]?

For a boy, [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Xavier[/name], which I would pronounce Zah-vee-air.

My Favs are [name]Xavier[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name].

I like [name]Leo[/name], [name]Linus[/name], and [name]Calvin[/name] for boys.
Girls: [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Lila[/name], and [name]Evelyn[/name].

I vote [name]Flora[/name]. [name]Evelyn[/name] is my second choice. I find [name]Clara[/name] more homespun, less sophisticated than Sylvya, and it’s also getting pretty hot in my area. [name]Lila[/name] is all over the place here, more so than [name]Evelyn[/name]. I think [name]Mira[/name] and [name]Miles[/name] are a little too matchy. Hearing the sibset, I would assume [name]Miles[/name] and [name]Mira[/name] are twins.

For boys, I like [name]Leo[/name]. I think it sounds rather snappy with your last name, and it’s perfect in the set. [name]Linus[/name] is second.

[name]Flora[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is lovely. Have you considered [name]Gemma[/name]? I know a 3 month old [name]Xavier[/name] (Zay-vee-ur), has a quirky style I like. [name]Leo[/name] is a favorite, but the o-ending last name is a concern. I love [name]Linus[/name], but doesn’t feel like a match. I like [name]Marius[/name] if you don’t mind matching first letters.

I really like [name]Florence[/name] for you too.

For boys, [name]Leo[/name] or [name]Xavier[/name] works well. If you want to use [name]Leo[/name] as a nn only, you could use [name]Leopold[/name], [name]Leonard[/name] or [name]Lionel[/name] as his full fn. that would avoid the double -o sound endings.

Wow, these responses are great!

phoebesmom: that’s a good point about [name]Mira[/name] and [name]Miles[/name] being too matchy.
seazuno86 : those are great suggestions
[name]Eleanor[/name] - beautiful name
[name]Margo[/name] - hmmm … I never would have thought of this name,
[name]Lydia[/name] - probably too similar to [name]Silvia[/name]

[name]Lucian[/name] - I think I still prefer [name]Lucas[/name]
[name]Julian[/name] - I do love this name, but it’s my son’s middle
[name]Arthur[/name] - I would totally consider this name, it’s already taken in my immediate family
[name]Philip[/name] - I like the name, it’s already taken in my immediate family

tfzolghadr: thanks! these are really good points. I love little women ([name]Josephine[/name]) and I love math ([name]Pascal[/name])

Congratulations!
[name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name] - I think [name]Florence[/name] is a gorgeous choice but maybe visually she’s too long for her siblings who both have short names. Whereas I think [name]Flora[/name] could work with Sylvya and [name]Myles[/name] nicely as [name]Flora[/name] has the same timely feel.

[name]Clara[/name]/[name]Mira[/name]/[name]Nina[/name] - My favourite is [name]Clara[/name] she’s a pretty, spunky timeless choice. [name]Clara[/name] feels beautiful especially with Sylvya and [name]Myles[/name] I think they have the same timely feel like with [name]Flora[/name]. But I do prefer [name]Clara[/name] to [name]Flora[/name] as well.

[name]Lila[/name] - I think this name is cute and has bags of attitude. [name]Lila[/name] is pretty and upbeat. Yet I don’t think she has the seriousness of [name]Myles[/name] and Sylvya.

[name]Josephine[/name] - I adore this classic, she’s really beautiful. [name]Josephine[/name] is lovely but I think visually she has the same issue as [name]Florence[/name] she’s too long for Sylvya and [name]Myles[/name].

[name]Evelyn[/name] - I think this name works with [name]Myles[/name] and Sylvya the best out of all the girls choices. She has that ‘y’ letter that your children’s names feature heavily. [name]Evelyn[/name], Sylvya and [name]Myles[/name] seems to just visually and stylistically work the best together. Their perfect!

[name]Linus[/name] - I like this choice, but I do agree with this name feels perfect for a child yet during the awkward teenage stage I wouldn’t want to be a [name]Linus[/name]. I think this name may be challenging to live with. Like [name]Percy[/name] for example. Very cute though.

[name]Calvin[/name] - I’ve never been a major [name]Calvin[/name] fan, however his charms are growing on. Yet I think [name]Cal[/name] and [name]Dal[/name] is just too rhymey and slightly too much.

[name]Pascal[/name] - A lovely Passover associated name and [name]Pascal[/name] is the French spelling. I think using the Italian form ‘[name]Pasquale[/name]’ is more appropriate concerning your surname and in away I don’t think [name]Pascal[/name] ultimately works with Sylvya and [name]Myles[/name].

[name]Lucas[/name] - A nice simple choice. I do like the name [name]Lucas[/name], he’s a nice [name]Luke[/name] variant yet in some ways I prefer [name]Luca[/name].

[name]Leo[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name] choice very charming yet I don’t know how this name will work with your surname.

[name]Jay[/name] - Again works brilliantly with Sylvya and [name]Myles[/name] has [name]Jay[/name] has the same style as the names and has that ‘y’ letter which ties all the names together.

[name]Xavier[/name] - I think this name is a great choice yet Sylvya and [name]Myles[/name] are vintage choices and [name]Xavier[/name] doesn’t really work with that vintage feel despite being a classic Basque name.

[name]Clive[/name] - I like this name but I think [name]Clyde[/name] maybe be better for your sibling set.

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Florence[/name] or [name]Josephine[/name] for a girl, and [name]Calvin[/name] or [name]Pascal[/name] for a boy.
