distinctly flowy, feminine names vs. more simple, unisex names

I’ve noticed that my taste in names can be divided into two very distinct genres.
[name]One[/name], I really like elegant, flowy names that scream femininity. Some that I’m loving right now are [name]Francesca[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name]/[name]Rosamund[/name], [name]Honora[/name], [name]Margo[/name], [name]Adele[/name], [name]Allegra[/name], [name]Romilly[/name], [name]Eliana[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Willa[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name], Florence, Eloise…
Second, I also love the simple, sweet names, which mostly tend to be somewhat unisex. These include [name]Blythe[/name], [name]Greer[/name], [name]Arden[/name], [name]Ellery[/name], [name]Auden[/name], [name]Wren[/name], [name]Lark[/name]/[name]Larkin[/name], [name]Reagan[/name], [name]Sage[/name], [name]Blaire[/name], [name]Clarke[/name]…

My question is, if you love either the ultra feminine names or the more simple, unisex ones, why?
I’m trying to decide which type of name I should stick to, since I already know that I will not be using names from both styles in a sibling set… (I just can’t name a child [name]Francesca[/name] and then have her sister be [name]Blaire[/name], or something… )

Also, if you think of anything that would fit in with either of the two styles, I love suggestions!
Thanks!!

I actually think two sisters called [name]Francesca[/name] and [name]Blair[/name] would be delightful, but I agree - [name]Blair[/name] might feel she “didn’t get enough name” compared to her sister… Anyway, I think I tend to like flowy, feminine names (especially for first names) and then simpler (but not really unisex) middles - I know they all seem pretty “flowy” on my signature, but I assure you I have a long list more! I have grown up with a short, unisex name that is spelt differently to how it sounds, and so I suppose I subconsciously want my future daughters to have long, distinctly feminine names, with lots of sweet nickname possibilities. But I do see the appeal of a short and sweet name too. Good luck!

Some of the names you have under flowy and feminine wouldn’t be my first thoughts of what fits the category. [name]Francesca[/name] and [name]Eliana[/name], sure, but [name]Margo[/name] isn’t at all frilly and [name]Florence[/name]'s sound is rather clunky. Those are the types of names I like best- they’re not actually unisex, but they aren’t frilly either. They’re tough with little-nonsense, but also distinctly feminine. I think it’s a great middle ground. From your list, I’d classify [name]Margo[/name], [name]Florence[/name], [name]Adele[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Wren[/name], [name]Blythe[/name], and possibly [name]Greer[/name] as fitting into that category. It wouldn’t at all seem odd to meet sisters named [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Wren[/name] or [name]Margo[/name] and [name]Greer[/name] the way it would to meet sisters [name]Clarke[/name] and [name]Allegra[/name]. I’d say you should stay away from the extremes on both ends and go for middle-of-the-road options.

I agree -middle of the road options are probably your best bet. I find myself attracted to things like [name]Cordelia[/name] and [name]Felicity[/name] which are super frilly but also to things like [name]Claire[/name], [name]Bliss[/name] and [name]Alice[/name], which to me, fall under the more simple and streamlined - I would likely go for a frilly first name with a more simple middle for myself, but you have a few names that could fall under both category. [name]Blythe[/name], [name]Margo[/name] and [name]Adele[/name], for example, are definitely feminine and pretty, but are more streamlined and chic than something like [name]Francesca[/name].

Thanks for all your replies! Really helpful!

I actually did see some of those names as more middle…like, [name]Margo[/name], [name]Florence[/name], etc. But I put them in the first category cause they’re exclusively female, whereas [name]Blythe[/name] and [name]Greer[/name] are unisex (although I would never use them, or any of the others I listed with them, on a boy)

I should create a middle of the road sort of list…streamlined and yet still feminine… I like it!
More suggestions are welcome too!

Thanks again!
