We are expecting our third child, which is a bit of a surprise, but we are thrilled!! We do not know the gender yet and probably are not planning to. Our 2 other children are [name]Christopher[/name] [name]William[/name] “Critters” (4) and [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Grace[/name] “[name]Lollie[/name]” (2). [name]Do[/name] I need to name this baby a C name too? Not really loving any other names that start with C, especially for a boy. [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Camille[/name] would be options for a girl though. What do you think? Thanks for your help!!
I would say don’t do it if you don’t want to.
I really like [name]Camille[/name], too.
Choosing a name you love is more important than a theme to me. Cute nn’s your kids have.
Besides the ‘c’, [name]Christopher[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] also have an ‘r’,‘i’,‘e’,‘o’ in common and both have 3 syllables. There are more ways than one to match sibling names.
I really like: [name]Christopher[/name], [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Rosalie[/name]/[name]Rosalind[/name].
Or how about a ‘c’ name with a different sound? [name]Christopher[/name], [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] is very nice.
But most important: you should love the name!
Oh, and for a boy, how about:
[name]Christopher[/name], [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name].
[name]Christopher[/name], [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Roderick[/name].
I agree in sticking with maybe the 3-syllable first names instead of just limiting yourself to the letter “C”.
[name]How[/name] about [name]Christopher[/name], [name]Caroline[/name] & one of these for a boy?
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name] (nn “[name]Ollie[/name]”)
[name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] (nn “[name]Theo[/name]”)
And there are a myriad of pretty 3-syllable choices if baby #3 is a girl.
You could turn [name]Camille[/name] into [name]Camilla[/name].
Other options:
[name]Cordelia[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] (nn “[name]Viv[/name]”)
[name]Gwendolyn[/name] (nn “[name]Winnie[/name]”)
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Lucienne[/name] (nn “[name]Lucy[/name]”)
Good luck!
[name]Cris[/name]
I don’t think you need to have another C name (especially since [name]Caroline[/name] goes by [name]Lollie[/name] anyway!), any more than you necessarily need to have a three-syllable name with initial stress (although there are many names that fit that description that are lovely and appropriate).
I do think you should use something in the same traditional/classic style, though. [name]Oliver[/name] is a really nice suggestion for a boy. The first idea that came to my mind for a girl was [name]Alice[/name], but I also like [name]Julia[/name], [name]Louisa[/name], [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Lydia[/name], etc.
[name]Just[/name] choose the name that rings your bells I think it is very limiting to stick to just one letter of the alphabet when there are so many gorgeous names to choose from.
I say no, don’t worry about the C thing. I would really go with what clicks for you, as long as it’s not absolutely, insanely, deviating from your style (even then, who cares if you love it) or as long as it’s not too similar, and not think twice about conforming to self-imposed restraints with only 2 kids with the same letter. If you had 3-4 Cs, maybe, but two seems more like coincidence that you picked the same letter. GL!
Funny thing, I know a family who has a boy name [name]Christopher[/name] and a girl named [name]Caroline[/name]. They have 4 children, and they all have ‘C’ names:
- [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Banks[/name] (He goes by his middle name, [name]Banks[/name])
- [name]Chase[/name]
- [name]Catherine[/name]
- [name]Caroline[/name]
…in that order!
I am friends with [name]Chase[/name], and he has no issues with it and he likes his name (as do I)!
I wouldn’t worry about the C thing, especially if neither you or your husband have C names (If it’s [name]Christopher[/name] & [name]Claire[/name] with [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name], that’s a different story!). [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] are also classic names, so I’d focus more on sticking with classic rather than a letter. For example, [name]Charles[/name], [name]Caroline[/name] & [name]Elizabeth[/name] work better as sibset, [name]IMO[/name], than [name]Charles[/name], [name]Caroline[/name] & [name]Courtney[/name].
It’s not worth it if you’re not loving any C names. [name]Don[/name]'t worry about it too much. [name]Just[/name] give the baby a name you really like.
Personally I say no. Others will disagree, and say the third baby will feel “left out”. But on the flipside, having their own initial might make that child feel more special.
I mean if you’re fond of the naming theme then by all means go for it. But if you don’t like any other C names then I think it’s silly to limit yourself when there are so many thousands of great names out there.
Thank you so much everyone for your input, I really appreciate it. I do want to go with a name I love primarily and not feel locked into just C names and you guys gave me some great ideas about alternatives. If it’s a boy, I will definitely be leaving the C theme. For a girl, I do love [name]Charlotte[/name] despite its popularity. But isn’t [name]Charles[/name]/[name]Caroline[/name]/[name]Charlotte[/name] the same name as far as meaning? I also like [name]Mary[/name] [name]Claire[/name] ([name]Mary[/name] is my grandmothers name) and would probably call her Clairee, but is it too like the magazine?
I’m one of 4 c’s: [name]Christina[/name], [name]Cynthia[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Catherine[/name]. I know my parents also considered [name]Celia[/name] and [name]Carolina[/name]. [name]Love[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name] as well. Our animals were c’s too: [name]Courtenay[/name] and Cholmondeley (pronounced Chumly)–both old-world British–[name]Charlie[/name], [name]Cressida[/name] and [name]Cassandra[/name]. Over-the-top corny, I know, but kind of fun.
