Yes! I used to hate [name_u]August[/name_u] but now I love it. I do think Nameberry influences it, sometimes someone will mention a name and it’ll look so pretty or handsome I’ll suddenly love it!
Outside of nameberry, I think associations are important. I used to hate the name [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], then I met a college with the name who was so pretty and such good friend, I love the name too!
I used to really dislike [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], and now they’ve moved to somewhere between ‘meh’ and ‘interesting’
I used to adore [name_u]Alfie[/name_u], [name_f]Cerys[/name_f], [name_m]Ethan[/name_m], and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] but repeated them to myself so often I got bored!
I loved [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] when I was 12, fell out of love at about 14, and now really love it at 19.
My recent changes of opinions include learning to love [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], and [name_f]Hope[/name_f], and falling slightly out of love with [name_f]Felicity[/name_f].
Yes! I always have liked the classics, but certain “older” names, like [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], seemed so ugly to me. Now, I love so many more of those very similar names. I think tastes just change at times…I mean who still loves everything they did at the age of 10? or any age? It happens. Seeing people discuss certain names on here also has allowed some names to grow on me as well.
[name_f]Dottie[/name_f] is that name for me. I would have used to say it was “too old” but now I love it (it still kind of depends on the right combo for me but I still love it)
[name_m]Just[/name_m] reflecting - yes I agree the appeal of names does alter. To me it’s amazing that we remain as loyal and attracted to as many as we do. (but Mothers can attest to association phenomena.)
As a PP said (in other words), whether its cars, food or names, most tastes change over time or for good reason.
The word classic does suggest timeless elegance or appeal, and in general this applies. Most of us have detested antique furniture or literary classics at some time, and yet usually after trends, phases and passions abate, these classics tend to keep on. @mischa says exposure through Nameberry will shift most in-grained biases eventually. My thought is that through our senses we decide if a name seems to really define/suit a person and that has more influence than I think we realize. I like [name_f]Kate[/name_f] & [name_f]Mary[/name_f], e.g. and if Great Aunt [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] had been named one of those names I am sure I would not have the bias against [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] that I do. She would have been okay as a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] but not [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. So whatever it is that changes our minds I wish it would work its magic and let [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] ‘grow’ on me because I feel totally anti-social not liking that name.

I used to despise [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_f]Eva[/name_f], and [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. All of those names have grown on me. Everyone’s tastes grow and change: previous favorites can be discarded off of your list, while new favorites take their place.
Oh yes! There are quite a few names that have grown on me as I’ve grown up. One name I used to not like the sound of was [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. I think one of the reasons I didn’t like it was because my mom doesn’t. Now, I think it’s quite beautiful. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] is a name that I am not a fan of at all (my mom despises it), but I think [name_f]Bella[/name_f] on it’s own is quite cute. I’m a lot more picky when it comes to girl names, so there are not many that I am in love with, but I like a lot more than I use to. Boys names are much easier for me to love, but there are a few that I used to hate that I love now: [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Jedidiah[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_m]Maverick[/name_m], [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].
