Do these "go" as sisters?

Please be honest.

[name_u]Arden[/name_u] & [name_f]Harriet[/name_f].

It could work. However, they do seem different styles. With [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], I would expect to see:

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]

[name_u]Arden[/name_u] seems much more modern than [name_f]Harriet[/name_f].

Though [name_u]Arden[/name_u] was in use in the 19th and early-20th century, the period I associate with [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], it was usually as a boys’ name. So as a girl’s name it sounds much more modern and much more unisex than the very antique and solidly female [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], as lumen said. Basically, I picture a 2016 tomboy and an old lady with little glasses, long skirts, and a bun, so they seem stylistically at odds.

I don’t see any need to stylistically match siblings. It works just fine.
I wouldn’t name one sister [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] and the other [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. But it terms of the vibe of a name I actually like an eclectic mix.

I think that they work fine for sisters. I’m not of the mindset that sibsets need to be matchy-matchy. Although [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] does seem a little bit older, it is the sort of name that is just now coming back into fashion and sounds perfectly fine next to the more modern [name_u]Arden[/name_u].

They’re not the same style, but honestly I don’t think it’s a crime to use different styles in a sibset. My name is very different from my sisters’ names and ive always liked that difference.

If you want to keep it in the family, so to speak, [name_u]Arden[/name_u] seems more in the [name_f]Greer[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] camp; [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] is more in the [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] camp.

I think they work! I think of [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] the Spy when I hear the name [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] so I don’t get the old lady feel some may get.

I don’t think they really “go together” as they are different styles, one being more modern, unisex and one being vintage classic. They have a very different feeling too. But if you absolutely love them both, go for it! They are ok together.

I think they’re too different for sisters… I think [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Adele[/name_f] would be wonderful or [name_u]Arden[/name_u] and [name_f]Harlow[/name_f]!

I like them as a pair. They are both pretty but not frilly girls names. I actually prefer to see something unexpected in a sibset.

Thank you so much for your feedback, everyone. I think I will let it go. [name_u]Arden[/name_u] is so difficult to pair. I feel like if I’m asking the question, it must mean that I think they are too different.

[name_u]Arden[/name_u] is named for the forest in As You Like it, so I always think of her name as literary, and I do make the immediate [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] the Spy connection with [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]. I wondered if that seemed like an obvious link, or if it was a stretch. I really appreciate the feedback. I’ve begun a new thread on the subject of a sister name for [name_u]Arden[/name_u].

[name_u]Arden[/name_u] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] do not go well together.
