Do these names flow?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there,

We’re really struggling with girl names, in large part because the middle name is non-negotiable, we love it (family honor name), and it’s hard to find a first name that flows with it. I’m trying not to put all of the importance on the middle name that people hardly ever use, so does the flow really matter that much? Or should we just pick the first name that we love regardless of the flow as long as it sounds good with our last name?

Honest opinions needed about the flow and “use-ability” (or lack-thereof) of these following names. Are there any that sound awful and you would never use? Any that are too much of a mouthful? Any that sound stunning and you love?

[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] (em-MEEL-yuh) “[name_f]Mila[/name_f]” [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (loo-CHEE-uh) “[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]” [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] (ELL-uh-dee) [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] (uh-LEN-ee) “[name_f]Leni[/name_f]” [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] (ELL-oh-EE-zuh) [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]
[name_f]Luisa[/name_f] (loo-EE-zuh) “[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]” [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]

Thank you!

I think a first name shouldn’t sound too awkward with the middle name but it’s perfectly fine if they’re not perfect together!
The only combos that don’t flow as well are [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]. Everything else sounds fine to me! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f].

Carmella is lovely! I hope you use the name you love the most! More important is how the first and last names flow together and while I would try not to choose a first that was really awkward with the middle, in the end it is more important to love the first name. Based on my favourites I think [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f], [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f], and [name_f]Luisa[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f] are STUNNING but I don’t dislike any of them.

I’d say yes! Unless the flow is absolutely horrible with the middle name which none of your choices are

Absolutely pick the first name you love despite flow as you will be saying it all the time  my favourite from your list is [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]!

Emilia, [name_f]Luisa[/name_f] & [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] are the only ones that don’t flow magnificently to me, but they’re honestly all fine! [name_f]My[/name_f] favourites are [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] & [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]

Lucia [name_f]Carmella[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f], [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f], and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f] all flow well, I think!

[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] are my favorites with [name_f]Carmella[/name_f], but they are all great options!

Great choices! I think focusing on a first name you love is important. That’s what you’ll be saying a million times more than the middle name throughout her life. They all seem like beautiful options to me.

Hi there.

I like when fns & mns flow, but I wouldn’t personally worry about it as much when there’s a special honor mn. Maybe something totally rhyme-y wouldn’t work, but I give the flow or lack there of a little more a little more leeway, you know?

That being said, here are my thoughts on the list:

Emilia [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]-This flows fine! It’s a bit ‘m’ & ‘l’ heavy, but totally worth it for the special mn & if you love [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is lovely, but it will probably get mistaken for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] on occasion. And [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is pretty, but so over done right now. The nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is a little more interesting.

Lucia [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]-I like the flow of this a lot. And I find [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] a beautiful name, but do prefer Loo-see-uh. And then sometimes people say Loo-sha. The three different pronunciations sound like a pain. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is sweet & classic.

Isla [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]-[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is a nice name, but it’s just super popular that it’s become uninteresting.

Elodie [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]-I can’t get into this one. I feel like it should be the beautiful flow-y classic [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], but then there’s a ‘d’ in there & it looks heavy & off. That’s just my issue. I’m sure its a fine name. It may have pronunciation issues.

Eleni [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]-This may have pronunciation issues too, but it’s really adorable & slightly unexpected.

Eloisa [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]-This rhymes a little, but I don’t care. [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] is just

Luisa [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]-I kind of assumed this was [name_f]Luisa[/name_f], because loo-ee-zuh would just be [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]? It’s gorgeous either way, but maybe a little confusing.

Sienna [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]-This is a bit rhyme-y too, & [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] doesn’t do much for me. I think I just like more vintage names, & this sounds kind of modern. :woman_shrugging:

Audrey [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]-Not the best flow, but [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is a great name. It’s sweet, smart, feminine w/out being frilly, vintage, slightly glamorous. A little bit popular, but not terribly over done.

Hope this helps.

Audrey [name_f]Carmella[/name_f] is my favorite.

Isla [name_f]Carmella[/name_f] is spunky and lovely, sounds best to me!

Lucia [name_f]Carmella[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f] are all gorgeous

Thank you! Tough decisions ahead.

I think they all flow well and are usable. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f] is my favourite.

I think unless a name flows horribly you can use it with a middle you really love. I’m happy to say that none of your combos flow horribly. I would say, pick your favorite. But if you really want to know which ones flow the best, here they are:

Eleni [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]

I really don’t think any of these names have a ~bad~ flow. Some of them do not roll off the tongue as easy, but I think that is not a big deal considering the middle is a (lovely!) honor name that you will not often use it! Plus the names you’ve chosen that end with the same vowel (I’m thinking [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]) sound very melodic yet not distracting, so I really think any of these names are contenders and you could choose your favorite one!

My own favorites are
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]
[name_f]Luisa[/name_f] [name_f]Carmella[/name_f]

Good luck!!

@sierrajade thank you! :slight_smile:
