[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering if the names [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] (big bro) and [name_f]Riona[/name_f] (little sis) go together as a sibling set? I like that they are similar but are they too similar in your opinion?

They’re on the borderline for me - maybe too similar or maybe you could get away with it. If they were your only two children I’d think they were too similar. If you had [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] and then a couple of other children and then [name_f]Riona[/name_f] I’d probably still think they were pretty similar but they’d work.

I think they are a little too similar. Maybe use one as a middle name?

Thanks everyone! Appreciate the feedback. I like the name [name_f]Riona[/name_f] (pronounced [name_f]Ree[/name_f]-own-ah with ‘[name_u]Rio[/name_u]’ as a nn). [name_f]Riona[/name_f] means queen in irish which is nice. We have a few others in reserve:

[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] (worried it will become too dated?)
[name_f]Clodagh[/name_f] (very very popular where we live)
[name_f]Abrianna[/name_f] (a bit ‘out there’)
[name_f]Marisa[/name_f] (I like this but don’t like risa as nickname)

I’m torn as to whether to go with [name_f]Riona[/name_f] (my fave) or whether to heed some of your warning that that and [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] are too similar! There will only be two children I’d imagine so kinda like the idea of them being linked by the names but obviously don’t want people thinking we were evil parents :smiley: Thanks again- feel free to keep any comments coming

I imagine you’d have people tripping over their names together. But then, as people often point out, their names will only be said together more frequently during childhood. In adulthood you and family will be the only ones putting the names together. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have a nn for [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]? [name_m]Will[/name_m] it be [name_f]Ro[/name_f] and [name_u]Rio[/name_u]? I really like the meaning of [name_f]Riona[/name_f], so I see your attachment. Could you find a different name with a similiar meaning?

[name_m]Both[/name_m] lovely names, but too similar [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I love [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] but then if a younger sister is named [name_f]Riona[/name_f], it feels to me like her name is based off of her brother’s instead of being a name that is chosen for her as a unique individual.

Matchy names are not my thing. I don’t think sibling names should be similar at all.
