Do these names go together!?

I’m not pregnant and don’t plan to be for a while, however, I’ve found myself obsessing over my future children’s names this week and I’m worried my favourites don’t go together. We only plan on having 2-3 children so which do you think go best? Would love your thoughts and please feel free to suggest some others that you think would work!

The names (first and middle combos) I’m loving are:

Boys:
Dries [name_m]Pascal[/name_m] - my partner has [name_m]Dutch[/name_m] and [name_u]French[/name_u] heritage and we both love this name

[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Yves[/name_m] - He’d only get called the nickname “Art” though and I’m unsure on having two 1 syllable names as first and middle because our last name is long

Girls:
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_u]Swan[/name_u] - I’ve loved [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] forever and [name_u]Swan[/name_u] is a name in my family

[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_u]March[/name_u] - love the sound of this and our last name starts with O so I’m into the alliteration

Joan/Joanie - [name_u]Joan[/name_u] was my grandmother’s name but I can’t find a middle name that I really love that goes with [name_u]Joan[/name_u] as a first name. She’ll likely only ever be called “Joanie” - would love some suggestions on this one.

Please let me know what you think, I worry I have a few too many themes going on here. Like there’s [name_u]French[/name_u], [name_m]Dutch[/name_m], classic [name_f]English[/name_f], gemstones all going on. [name_f]Do[/name_f] they work?

TIA!

Dries [name_m]Pascal[/name_m]- This actually sounds very nice! Has an artsy vibe to me, the only thing is that Dries looks like the word dries and will probably get mispronounced like the word but I still think it’s a stunning combo worth using

[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Yves[/name_m]- Another gorgeous one! I don’t think you have to worry about the syllables, especially if the full name is [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] plus how many time would someone say “Art [name_m]Yves[/name_m] L/N” y’know?

[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_u]Swan[/name_u]- Stunning holy cow this is absolutely gorgeous. That’s literally it it’s so pretty and sounds so elegant, plus a ton of nickname options from [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], plus you could combine them with the middle cause it’s not too long for something like Thea-Swan as a nn, it’s just so so pretty

[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_u]March[/name_u]- Awee this is so sweet, [name_u]March[/name_u] makes me think of [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women and [name_f]Opal[/name_f] is super super cute, she would be the sweetest little girl, literary nothing wrong with this just so sweet

Joan/Joanie- I prefer [name_f]Joanie[/name_f] over [name_u]Joan[/name_u], just personal preference but nothing bad with [name_u]Joan[/name_u] other than some people may see it as dated but dated isn’t really a bad thing, I also like the [name_u]Joan[/name_u] of [name_m]Arc[/name_m] association

Joan/Joanie middles~

[name_f]Joanie[/name_f] [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] (figured if you like alliteration)

[name_u]Joan[/name_u] [name_f]Celina[/name_f]
[name_u]Joan[/name_u] [name_f]Elodia[/name_f]

I don’t think you have too many themes at all in fact I think all of these are pretty similar vibe wise, they’re all super sweet I could totally imagine these as some awesome siblings. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this help!! :black_heart:

Thank you so much! I know right, [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_u]Swan[/name_u] is my absolute favourite. And I totally feel you on the “Joan” front, I prefer [name_f]Joanie[/name_f] too but I’m not sure on having a nickname-y sounding name as a full first name. Thanks again for your help!

I don’t think [name_f]Joanie[/name_f] is too nicknamey! There’s plenty of names that are more nicknamey and it’s a bit of a trend right now but [name_f]Joanie[/name_f] is pretty established as a full name by itself!

[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] “Art” [name_m]Yves[/name_m] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_u]Swan[/name_u] would make a beautiful sibset.

[name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_u]March[/name_u] is gorgeous, and it fits well with the other combos, too. Dries is great, and i love that there’s a connection to you partner’s heritage, although i do agree there is room for mispronunciation, depending where you live.

i prefer [name_f]Joanie[/name_f] to [name_u]Joan[/name_u], too! it’s very sweet. here are some [name_f]Joanie[/name_f] combo ideas:

[name_f]Joanie[/name_f] [name_f]Etta[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanie[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanie[/name_f] [name_u]Florence[/name_u]
[name_f]Joanie[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanie[/name_f] [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanie[/name_f] [name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanie[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanie[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanie[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u]
[name_f]Joanie[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]

Thanks so much for those suggestions for [name_f]Joanie[/name_f] - all stunning! I’m not too bothered about Dries being mispronounced often, we’ll just correct people. However, I do worry it could get annoying for Dries himself haha

I think you can tie them together even if their first names may be of different styles.
I think [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] is your most versatile name and Dries your least versatile one. [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] fits well with [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] & Joan; I can see [name_f]Opal[/name_f], [name_u]Joan[/name_u] and Dries together as well due to their length. [name_u]Joan[/name_u] & [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] give you a mid-century vibe while [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] & [name_f]Opal[/name_f] give you more of a trendy vintage vibe.

For me, the main challenge would be making Dries not stand out as much and I think short, fun nicknames may be the way to go!
With Dries & [name_m]Art[/name_m], I’d add [name_f]Dolly[/name_f], Opie & [name_f]Joanie[/name_f] and create a theme for the boys and the girls names.

You’re so right! I absolutely love the nn [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] for [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] so that’d most likely be what we’d call her. I do really like Dries but because it’s the one that doesn’t fit as well, it’s probably the one I’d swap out whereas it’s my partner’s absolute favourite so I feel like we need to find a way to make it work.

The more I think about it, the more I kind of like [name_f]Opal[/name_f] [name_u]Joan[/name_u] as a name and calling only her [name_f]Joanie[/name_f] rather than the “Opal March” option. So maybe [name_m]Art[/name_m], Dries, [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] and [name_f]Joanie[/name_f] are my top picks now and I feel like they all work well. Thank you so much for your help!
