Do these names sound too similar for siblings?

I have a little girl and have found out that I’ll soon be giving her a little sister in the next couple of months.

[name_f]My[/name_f] dilemma is…my daughters middle name is [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] but I really like the name [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] for the next baby (nn ideas at the mo are [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] or Gigi)

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think their names will be too similar?

Since [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] is her middle name it seems usable to me. I personally wouldn’t, though, but if you are dead set on [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] I don’t think it would cause a lot of issues.

i think it’s ok since margaux is a middle and won’t be used super often!

It is fine.

I do think it’s too similar. You’d essentially end up with daughters called [first name] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [middle name].

I think it’s fine, since [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] is the middle. Unless that is, you call your daughter [firstname Margaux] a lot?

Definitely okay. We seldom use our middle names and as adults, often our middle names aren’t even known by colleagues/acquaintances. As @hellobanjo has commented, it is a sweet connection for sisters.

If [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] is the middle, it’s fine in my opinion.

I think it’s fine because [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] is the middle name, assuming you use the first name only on a daily basis.

Cute nicknames are [name_f]Margy[/name_f], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Rita[/name_f], RiRi, Riti, [name_f]Mags[/name_f], Taisy)

It’s fine. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Peggy[/name_f].

I know sisters whose names are Av@ Alex@ndra and Alex@ndria Juli€t. Hasn’t affected them. I wouldn’t personally do it, but it’s not the end of the world.

I think it’s totally fine. [name_f]My[/name_f] youngest sister’'s middle name is a variation on my first name (both are family names) and it’s caused exactly zero issues in our lives.

However, if you are after alternatives, here are some ideas that could give you the nicknames you like:

[name_f]Peggy[/name_f] - [name_f]Pegeen[/name_f], [name_f]Paige[/name_f], Winnipeg, [name_u]Padget[/name_u], [name_m]Pegasus[/name_m], [name_f]Megan[/name_f] (I know [name_f]Pegeen[/name_f] and [name_f]Megan[/name_f] are [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] diminutives, but sound-wise they are further away from [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] and Marguerite)

[name_f]Gigi[/name_f] - [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] (or any other [name_u]George[/name_u] name), [name_f]Virginia[/name_f], [name_f]Ginger[/name_f], [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] or [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] or [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Regina[/name_f]

There’s also the [name_f]Mag[/name_f]- names that aren’t related to [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] - [name_f]Magali[/name_f], [name_f]Magda[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f], [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Magenta[/name_f] …and I’ll add [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and [name_u]Omega[/name_u] to the list too. All these could use [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] or [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] for a nickname too.

Totally fine since one is middle name!

I don’t think they’re too similar, some parents like to have themes with their children’s names and that can include them all starting with “M” or have certain letters repeated. So even if someone may think they do, you can always see it as a cohesive theme you decided to go with. I think [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] would sound very youthful and cute, it’s an adorable name combo and I don’t think you should hold yourself back from it. Personally, [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] to me sounds dated and I think of the mom from ‘Married with Children’ but that’s just me.
