We like the names [name]Eli[/name] and [name]Milo[/name] and I’m wondering what the thoughts are on whether these are solid enough names to be given names, and not nicknames for something else? [name]Milo[/name] is less nick-namey, but I wonder if it grows up well. I keep saying “The Right Honourable [name]Milo[/name] LastName” to try it out.
I agree with the previous comment. [name]Milo[/name] works by itself, though (as you suggest) it’s not a traditional choice. I think that people will assume that [name]Eli[/name] is a nickname for [name]Elijah[/name] or [name]Elias[/name].
[name]Eli[/name] is a legitimate stand alone name so it surprises me that some people consider it just a nn for other names. [name]Eli[/name] was a high priest and judge in the Old Testament and - yes - it was just [name]Eli[/name]. [name]Eli[/name] sounds strong and masculine and at the same time, bright and spunky. It would especially go well with your son’s name [name]Luke[/name]. [name]Eli[/name] and [name]Luke[/name] - how perfect is this duo? [name]Milo[/name] is usually a variation of [name]Miles[/name] and is most often a nn for it. I think it can stand on its own too! It’s friendly and upbeat and has a lot of charm. Two great choices!
I went to school with an [name]Eli[/name] in the 90’s who was just an [name]Eli[/name]. If I met an [name]Eli[/name] today I wouldn’t assume it was short for anything. I like the name [name]Milo[/name], but have a hard time picturing it on an adult.
I agree with mischa and zaelia: [name]Eli[/name] is a full Biblical name, and I wouldn’t assume it was short for anything. I find [name]Milo[/name] a tad nicknamey, but that’s not to say he couldn’t be the first Right Honorable [name]Milo[/name] ___.
I think they could both work fine on their own! I agree with the others that [name]Eli[/name] is a legitimate Biblical name all on its own so technically I don’t see it needing a fuller name, even though lots seem to fall back on [name]Elijah[/name]/[name]Elias[/name]/[name]Elliot[/name]/etc., nn [name]Eli[/name]. [name]Miles[/name] nn [name]Milo[/name] has never particularly made sense to me since [name]Milo[/name] is longer in sound, so I would personally use it all on its own, haha. I think [name]Milo[/name] nn [name]Miles[/name] makes more sense to me, personally.
I think both can work as stand alone names. I personally prefer them as nns for [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Miles[/name], but that’s just my preference.
I think they both totally stand on their own. [name]Just[/name] because a name is short doesn’t mean it’s not strong. Neither comes off as “nicknamey” to me.
